with all due respect, bolton, it was William McGregor of Villa that invited the chairmen of the other clubs (including your own) to create the league in the first place, so it is not at all inaccurate to refer to The Villa as founders of the league, because if McGregor hadn't invited them to the meeting, the league wouldn't have begun then. As for racism, name one single league club that doesn't have 'em. Palace? well, I just like 'em, that's all.
Yes it is inaccurate, if we are playing that game, I can easily tell you that Bolton is one of the most influential football towns in England, with possibly the oldest club in existance which was playing matches in 1830, on the pitch which is now the oldest in the world. This team created the first football league but this didn't last long and when then called Christ Church were founded as a result Bolton Wanderers were formed, became dominant in the area and were invited to join the football league as we know it today. So yes you are inaccurate. As for Burnley I take it you have never been there... if you're black you're a dead man. Apart from Akinbiyi, they were racist to shit against him on his debut, but he continued to give all his heart and now they love him.

well, my pedantic friend, the truth is we were referring to the football league itself, not some previous defunct league. The football league (Which all authorities with any merit whatsoever credit for being the FIRST professional football league anywhere) was founded in 1888 by the original twelve members (Villa, Wolves, WBA, Blackburn, Burnley, PNE, Bolton, Stoke, Derby, Notts County, Accrington, & Everton) that included both The Villa (founded 1874) and Bolton, (founded also 1874 as Christchurch, renamed in 1877 as Bolton Wanderers). I don't know anything about some other side playing football in Bolton in the 1830s mate, and can't find anything mentioned about them having anything to do with Bolton except perhaps having played in the same area. So, if we're going for accuracy, then ASTON VILLAs chairman invited the men in charge of eleven other clubs to join him and found the oldest professional league on earth. That makes ASTON VILLA FC the founders of the football league as previously noted. (and one of only four English teams to have won the ultimate European club championship along with ManU, Pool, and Forest) The league was McGregors idea and no amount of hopeful historical revisionism will change that. Everton were the first tenants of Anfield, I'm sure a lot of plop supporters would like to change that little historical tidbit, but the facts is the facts mate. In addition, I don't know anything about this earlier ground you mentioned, (although I'm sure you have the information about it for me to examine) but Bolton (even if they played at Burnden Park which they don't anymore) doesn't hold any records for the oldest ground in league football, we all know that is Deepdale at Preston. Burnden came into use by Bolton in 1895, so presumably they had an earlier ground, but your lot don't use it that's for sure, not to say some other side don't use it mind. when I "picked" Aston Villa to support, it was based on a few specific criteria. I live in Canada, so it really was a matter of picking a side, as I have no geographical affiliation with any area in the UK. First, the team I was picking had to have been a founding member, as noted above, one of the twelve. That certainly narrowed it down a bit. No, Accrington Stanley wasn't high on the list... Second, I was also looking for a club with a great tradition and heritage, well, The Villa have that in abundance. Although I don't consider myself a glory hunter, I wanted to follow a club with some sort of winning tradition, and so the numerous League and FA Cups, as well as the European Cup win of '82 were factors to be sure. I never did like any of the big 4, since I began following English football, they were never in the potential mix. Colours: I have never cared for red or blue teams, the Claret and Blue was very attractive. The fact that the club hadn't moved to a McStadium was a factor, Villa Park is a great old ground with tons of history. It was just at the end of the O'Dreary period when I joined up, but to tell you the truth I was not very knowledgeable and at that point I didn't know the managers name tbh. Villa weren't doing very well. My how that has changed! I remembered The Villa from when I was child in the UK in the sixties, and I remembered the name and how much I liked it, it truly is one of those great English Icons, very Victorian if you will. They shouldn't have even been on it, the orignal Accrington Stanley didn't join the League until 1921. In 1888 they would have been playing, as Stanley Villa, in a local league.

yeah, that would've rang a little hollow to be sure, to tell the truth, as far as it goes, I expected a long period in the doldrums of mid table mediocrity if not a relegation battle when I joined in, the improvement over the last couple of seasons has been nothing short of remarkable under O'Neill. Yes, I am sure my pick of sides doesn't exactly inspire you, Hopefully next season you can come up and see if you can improve over the last meeting of our two sides...
