Brasilans worry too much about altitude, anyone remember last year, the ass whooping that Cruziero i think gave Real Potosi at home?
That's mostly why, and how ironic that Bolivian Martins scored the only penalty goal for Cruzeiro. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om4XwVwd-j4&feature=related"]YouTube - Real Potosí 5 - Cruzeiro 1. Copa Libertadores 2008.[/ame] This is a recent article about high altitude teams etc. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/12/071221094837.htm
What is the actual altitude in Bolivia in the stadium for the retorno game next week? Palmeiras is just too much for Potosi, I think
Potosi is a VERY weak team... all unwanted and recycled players from the Bolivian league... que verguenza. I wouldnt be surprised if they lose at home next week.
WHen he played them, he stated he felt nothing due to the altitude, while cruziero were complaining about it. He's from santa cruz too so technically the altitude should have 'effected' him too. Ok then, im pretty sure it was Flamengo in the 07' CL then. 3800mts? I think in potosi? La Paz is 3600. Potosi is higher. Truth. I see them getting their ass whopped. Truthfully, Bolivar should be there with their squad they have now which IMO is 'the strongest' (<------yet they suck right now ) in bolivia right now.
Re: Copa Libertadores 2009 only big team in SA is Boca.... thats it no other team here is consistent.... and gasp.... maybe Chivas they usually get far when they are in these tournies and crap colombian teams like Cucuta, Once Caldas and this year watch out for Boyaca Chico
Re: Copa Libertadores 2009 Chivas, are you kidding me? First of all, their not even a South American team and 2nd, Sao Paulo is a big team in SA... if anything as big, if not bigger then Boca. And defenently much bigger then Chivas.
It is the highest altitude! The Brasilian players will need Oxygen masks... this is from wikipedia: Potosí is a city, the capital of the department of Potosí in Bolivia. It is claimed to be the highest city in the world at a nominal 4,090 m (13,420 feet).[1] It lies beneath the Cerro de Potosí — sometimes referred to as the Cerro Rico ("rich mountain") — a mountain popularly conceived of as being "made of" silver ore, which has always dominated the city. Cerro de Potosí's peak is 4,824 meters (15,827 feet) above sea level.
Re: Copa Libertadores 2009 Unfortunately Fluminense is not in this year, last time it was so much fun....
And people think Quito is high .. LMAO .. what is Quito like 2,700? but G_damn.. 4,090! is it even legal? Do you jump higher there as well lol ?? oh well
xD xD xD supuestameante la regla esque en la altura la bola anda mucho mas rapido... this will be interesting
mas el dolor de cabeza- que te hace tomar decisones raras - narcosis ganas de vomitar y mucho dolor en la punta de los wevos!
The most Palmeiras will get is a draw. Last 3 times Brazilian teams went to Potosi, Flamengo drew and Cruzeiro and Parana got blown out. I'm not sure if Potosi's team is better than the last 2 years, but the altitude alone will not allow Palmeiras to win IMO.
What ass whooping? Potosi gave one to Cruzeiro, who had a good team. And look at Potosi's home record in the Libertadores. It speaks volumes of the effects of their altitude. Flamengo struggled to play there. Last year, they played in Cuzco and breezed through it. Potosi is on a different level. 2008: 2-3 vs San Lorenzo 3-1 vs Caracas 5-1 vs Cruzeiro 2007: 2-2 vs Flamengo 2-2 vs Maracaibo 3-1 vs Parana 2002: 1-0 vs San Lorenzo 2-4 vs El Nacional (altitude team) 6-1 vs Penarol (finished first in the group) Record: 5-2-2
Bogota, Quito, y si, hasta Cusco parecen playas comparadas a esta ciudad.. yo no tenia idea que era tan elevada.
Chivas 2nd largest is a joke. Boca is bigger than SPFC. But, as stated in earlier topics, it is much more difficult to qualify for the CL in Brazil than in Argentina. We have at least 12 big teams competiting. Even the medium teams like Atletico-PR and small teams like Sao Caetano have fared well in the past. How many editions have Boca and River missed?
I personally think the effects arent that serious, and if anything with their poor form and not even close to a million salary total i dont see why teams should care. Potosi is a poor team. They are lucky to make it as far to even the libertadores. Brasilian teams need to chill out and realize what kind of tema they are playing. Whine aobut the more rich teams in bolivia(Which still only have like a 1.5 million salary total) to then worry about. Personally the effects of altitude is IMO comparable to the heat and humidity found in brasil, causes you not to be able to intake as much clearer air, resulting in similar effects which many brasilian teams claim.
How many times must I shoot this down? What hot weather? No foreign teams are playing in the middle of the day. They play at night, in weather that is completely normal Last night in Sao Paulo, it was 23 degrees celsius (73 F). Is that too hot? Brazilians suffer in hot weather too. Whenever Flamengo plays in the interior of Rio during the summer, they get exhausted. Potosi is not affected by the altitude. When Flamengo played in Potosi, they played in near freezing conditions, with rain AND the altitude. Like I said, Potosi's record speaks for itself. Besides the effects on players, it also effects the style of play. There are longer shots and longer passes, and a team like Potosi knows how to use it to their advantage. Potosi can't be that shitty of a Bolivian team if they can make two straight Libertadores. If they are, that says a lot about the rest of the clubs.
Both high altitude and heat do affect visiting players. The best way to counter high altitude is by acclimating to those conditions. Due to demanding schedules it's difficult for club teams to do that. As for heat, the best solution is to schedule games at night or later in the day. Many Brazilian clubs feature their matches at night during the Copa Libertadores.
