U.S. Men’s National Team Roster By Position

GOALKEEPERS (3): Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Will Hesmer (Columbus Crew), Matt Pickens (Colorado Rapids)

DEFENDERS (5): Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Ugo Ihemelu (Colorado Rapids), Chris Wingert (Real Salt Lake), Marvell Wynne (Toronto FC)

MIDFIELDERS (8): Brian Carroll (Columbus Crew), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Eddie Gaven (Columbus Crew), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Jack Jewsbury (Kansas City Wizards), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew), John Thorrington (Chicago Fire)

FORWARDS (4): Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Chris Rolfe (Chicago Fire)

    --------------------------------------

I really hope we add some european based players (Some serious ones). This roster would be fine for a little friendly or the gold cup but this squad can't beat Mexico. I'm rather worried now.

I could see why Landon wouldn't come this time, even though I disagree with it. But Dempsey, Gooch, Pearce, Boca, Dolo, Beasley, Altidore, Adu, Howard... where are they?

Maybe I'm reading this wrong and some of these guys will be comin over... I'm just sayin, I'm worried.

Don't worry this is far from the final roster. The European players won't be called in until a few days before the game. This is just a camp to keep some of the other guys in shape.

What if adding Califf to the camp players, we get a starting squad of:

    Busch
    Wynne Ihemelu Califf Bstein
    Thorrington Kljestan Clark Rogers
    Davies Ching

more or less what we saw vs Sweden (with the addition of starting Farnerud and Elm) defeated Mexico 1-0 the other night.

With Dolo's form in question, Wynne with all his deficits seems reasonable at RB if Hejduk doesn't beat him out.
Ugo seems a bit far-fetched if Gooch, Boca, Demerit weren't available.
No Bradley? Doubtful with Papa looking on.

However, I think in Mexico's present state, in a frozen U.S. soccer stadium, the above crew could win! And BB would be crowned the man who does the most with the least.

Yeah, this is just to get a couple of MLS guys who could see action against Mexico into better shape (Hejduk, Clark, Bornstein, Ching, etc.)

The only thing we can conclude from the roster is this:

If you're an MLS player and you're not on this roster, then you're not playing against Mexico.

if you're an mls player and you're not on this roster, you have an ice cubes chance in hell of making the wc 2010 final 23..

Thanks for the reassurance. I didn't follow the US team in this much detail for the last world cup cycle. I do hope Donovan gets the call up. Won't the european leagues typically be suspended for that weekend for internationals?

If they aren't, It's likely we won't see Donovan.

Yes the Euro leagues will be on break for World Cup Qualifiers, so the only way Donovan, or most of the other Euro guys, don't play is if they're injured.

The European based players will all be available for these games Hex games as they're on FIFA dates. In fact, European clubs cannot prevent a player from attending a game on a FIFA date (officially anyway). That's also true of the Gold Cup and Confederations Cup this summer. European leagues won't be going on then, but MLS will.

The Starting XI for the Mexico match will probably contain only 2-3 US-based players.

Dude, relax. World Cup qualifiers for all federations take place on international FIFA dates, so situations like the one you fear do not occur.

When are the European based players scheduled to show up in camp? I hope they will have a few days to adjust to the time change and get in a couple days of training.

Really no news in this roster at all. Hejduk was added; every Scandinavian-based player except Davies was released. The other omitted players from the previous camp are all injured.

Well, some of the scandinavian leagues will play during the summer. But I am sure we'll be able to field a strong squad for both tourney's

Not an official match day, so there are weekend dates for all the non-Scandinavian leagues and the players will have to come to C-bus afterwards.

    http://www.fifa.com/aboutfifa/calendar/events.html

Which leaves one real day for practice.

Depending on the formation and the players used, the US should have more Euro based players than Mexico.

Which pretty much begs for the same old-same old from Bobaloo.

WTF? Why would CONCACAF have World Cup qualifiers on anything but days that FIFA classifies as "Fixed date for official competition matches?"

According to that calendar, February 11th is a "Fixed date for friendly matches."

    CONCACAF sucks.

I meant the formation and the players.

Without much time to prepare, you have to go with what and whom you know.

Sven is in a bit of a better shape (though with more suspensions and injuries) since he'll have Sanchez/Ochoa, Sinha, Pardo, Leandro Augusto, Vuoso and probably Medina of the projected starters at home.

Ten official matches in 2009, with a bunch of the summer dates set for the Confederation Cup and, perhaps more importantly, the Gold Cup.

Well, it seems that Torres has been called up by Bob Bradley for the game against Mexico as Pachuca and Torres have confirmed it.

    Yes sir.

This past Friday, Pachuca received confirmation that Jose Francisco Torres has been called up by the United States for their game against Mexico in the first qualifier of the hexagonal for the South Africa World Cup 2010.

El "Gringo" received the news very happily. "I am very happy, they just advised me that I've been called up and I think that with the European group of players, we'll be a strong team.

The young man is referring to guys like Landon Donova, to whom he considers a game-changer for the national team, "he's a difference maker at any moment, and a great player with many qualities".

    COMPRIMISED

Torres confirmed that the match against Mexico is going to put more pressure than usual so as to play in the Azteca championship

"I don't think I can feel something like that. I take it seriously and with the compromisation of giving it my all so that things come out well. Nothing less.

    SOMETHING SPECIAL

Obviously, the occassion isn't common for the lefty, more so than his double nationality.

"I repeat, it was difficult to make a decision, but now I have to focus and train hard and if I get to play against Mexico, then I will give it my all on the field to ensure we come out on top".

"The games between Mexico and the United States are and will always be the classic (name given by Latin fans to bitter rivalries ie. Argentina vs. Brazil) off this region and for me it will be a special occassion because I know players from both squads, itll be a tough match.

For that same reason, Torres denied that having the game in cold Columbus would become a big factor in determining this battle.

"To tell you the truth, it'll be very cold, but the field and the ball are the same for both sides. Realistically, it should be a close encounter.

SEE THE PAIR IN SOUTH AFRICA

Francisco Torres says that his mentality to face Mexico is to "do things well and win", but to also not get caught up in the moment. "I see both the U.S. and Mexico in South Africa World Cup 2010.

    ANOTHER TWO

Besides Torres, Pachuca will give up two more soccer players for the FIFA date on February 11. Those two will be Colombian goalkeeper Miguel Calero and attacking Paraguayian Edgar Benitez.

    Not necessarily. Mastroeni for example.

Also if someone has a breakout season in MLS, they could get some callups in the congested schedule. Do well in those and who knows?
