Everyone has excuses(the Bruins was wnership) and I think this is all starying from the point, Montreal is the real hockey town.
I used to hate Savard and always thought he was a selfish, pompous player. However on Saturday night during the skills competition he came across REALLY well. He seemed very likable. Don't know why he had a bad rep for so many years. Anyone else watch the Royal Rumble tonight?
Missed the Rumble, shame, I'm an Orton fan. Can I reiterate Ovechkin is the man? Weird take on Savard, especially the selfish part. Regarded by a majority of Bs fans as the purest passer/playmaker for us since Oates.
It's a league-wide take, I got it from just reading about him from various sources. That was the big rap on him. Ovechkin is the face of the NHL. I am as big of a Crosby fan as anyone but the casual fan can give two shits about how great he is. They are both great players, the difference is Sid is a terribly boring (or too cautious to put himself out there) while Ovechkin just puts himself out there for all the world to see and laughs all the while. I was sad to see what appeared to be Malkin and Ovechkin friends again. That rivalry was really turning into something special; forcing each player to turn it up a notch against each other.
NHL, but very soon, it will be MMA. Anyone see Fedor knock out Arlovski? Fedor - the best fighter EVER.
For sure, UFC needs to get him before he fades to teach Lesnar a lesson. BJ Penn, Silva, and GSP are some very dominant champs as well. GSP v. Penn is a monumental fight that any fan of any kind of fighting should watch.
Yeah, the 1st fight was good, this one should be better. I still don't know how Lesnar can ask to fight Fedor. I mean he won a few fights, one over an aging Couture and now he wants a shot at the title? Come on. I think Fedor will first fight Barnett next anyways. Arlovski wants a rematch as well. http://www.mmafighting.com/news/2009/01/27/arlovski-wants-rematch-with-emelianenko
If Lesnar beat Mir, there really isnt anyone else for him to fight in UFC. Fedor needs to come, Arlovski needs to come back, and Bobby Lashley might be the next up and comer too.
GSP is unbeatable at this point, love him as a fighter, he has no weakness. Obviously they are lining him up to fight Thiago Alves next but how about Superfight #2 for him, this time moving up in weight and taking on the unbeatable Anderson Silva.
I don't know much about UFC, but I'm still trying to get over the Megapowers' breakup in 1989. Hogan and Savage could have ruled the planet if that damn Miss Elizabeth wasn't in the way. But alas, "Bro's before Hoe's" obviously wasn't a code that the Macho Man followed. Tragic.
Great Aussie Open Men's Final at least for 4 sets until Roger seemed to give up in the end. Rafa Nadal is just a beast and a really just a very talented player. Seemed like he played the okey doke on Roger by conserving energy between sets. So many break points for both sides and Roger was especially poor with a something like 4 out of 22. What really struck me was the ceremonial speeches. Roger just couldn't hold back his tears and even Rod Laver said that "we should give Roger time to get it together". It was really sad to see, but I didn't know whether I should give Roger a tissue or smack him in the face so that he can grow some cajones. I think, sadly, that up until the arrival of a true rival in Nadal, Roger played well within himself and banked heavily on his talent and ability. He became complacent and after turning the tables on his only real rivals Nalbandian and Hewitt (who, when combined, are similar into something like Nadal), he was left with Roddick, Safin, Haas, Coria and Juan Carlos as his main rivals for major titles. Apart from Safin, who is Goran Ivanisevic Mach II (but right-handed) there was no real rival to push him and force him to improve on his game, especially in the mental side. Until the arrival of Nadal we saw a Federer who was confident on the big points and completely calm throughout a match intermixing high percentage shots with wonderful spins and a panache for shot-making that was unrivaled since the retirement of [Sampras]*. Now we see a player who second guesses himself and is poor in break point conversion percentage. Federer become complacent when it came to fighting for wins as he rarely ever had to fight to win a match (some commentators would remark on his lack of sweat during matches). I maintain that Federer was rarely challenged mentally until Nadal stepped on the scene and has found it extremely difficult to really gain a will of fire that matches that of the young Spaniard. It was disheartening to see Federer in the fifth set today and even more-so with his post match comments during the ceremony. I don't know if he will ever be the same or if he can truly beat Nadal in a major tournament. *Insert player
Wow, great analysis Okocha. Completely agree.....Federer has failed in the face of a true rival, and IMO, his mental game is not strong enough. I still think he'll be able to equal Sampras's record, but I wouldn't be surprised if Nadal were to do it as well.
Glad to see nadal beat him again. Federer may have an overall more complete game, but Nadal is the better athlete and has more heart and scrap to him. Nothing seems to phase him, where as like you said Roger gets down on his play when someone is really challenging him. Ideally, for me, after crusing through another French, they meet again for Wimbledon. I'd love to see the Slam happen, what ever it is called.
Watched all of 7 minutes of this game, could not have cared less. The real Superbowl today was down under.
