Well Ecuas...today marks a watershed moment in the history of this country...love him or hate him (i love that guy), he'll be our leader for 4 years and I'm sure they're going to be some amazing things happening soon. I hope ya'll caught a little bit of the inauguration, if not all of it...totally amazing!!! Well, welcome to the Obama White House...at least we'll be able to reconcile old alliances, build new ones, and maybe now the erratic stance towards Ecuador might finally begin to normalize with a more open minded presdient. GO OBAMA!

You should look towards your own house to find whos the "abnormal" and stop blaming others for the way you look abroad...just an advice;)

The US doesn't have an erratic stance toward Ecuador, it is the current Ecuadorian government has an erratic stance toward any views that have any sense of progress in regard to true democracy while siding himself with the likes of Chavez and Castro.

Correa is a self-centered idiot and he needs to go!

Really? Because last time I checked Colombia is the only country in South America receiving billions of dollars in financial assistance for what purpose? A flawed neo-liberal funding package based on a broken policy towards fighting a drug war that won't ever be won. Let's not mention America's hostile policy towards most leftist governments in the Latin American region. So through your line of reasoning every country has to conform to a certain style of governance simply to have the United States bestow financial aid. Let's not forget how Ecuador is housing tens of thousands of Colombian refugees paying out of pocket for it, and how Ecuador hasn't been compensated one penny for the airbase that the United States is using on our territory to help "Plan Colombia". I guess only neo-conservative and arguably human rights abusing governments are allowed to have money thrown at their feet...Correa is not the best president, but a lazy politics on the United States side has led to the resistance towards the US and that's an inarguable fact.

Crizmerz, what is your definition of a true democracy? Don't free elections define leadership? If Correa wins a popular vote, and the runoff elections, it is therefore legitimate leadership. The referendum was a popularly supported initiative through nationwide elections, again a sign of a working democracy. What I don't understand is why elections are the only sign of democracy. Why is it that Ecuador always has to be afraid to seek out new alliances when the United States isn't providing what we need? Our commercial ties with Iran, China, India, and Venezuela are straight reactions to the inadequacy of American intervention in Ecuador at a macroeconomic level. Neo-Liberalism has killed Ecuador.

I believe its 50/50 ... both the USA and its savage capitalist ideals and Correa with his zealous leftist views play part in this ....

Let's just hope that with Obama there can be a reconciliation and a step to better times ..

What kind of inadequacy do you speak of? Where has the United States failed? One thing is to find other allies to increase economic gain through trade, another is to alienate yourself from them by bad mouthing them every chance you step up to the podium.

yes I wholeheartedly agree...but it's not all Correa's fault. Believe me, I don't agree with a lot of his initiatives, I think there are some things he is doing right, but the United States has been topsy turvy with us for the past 10-15 years, giving out aid the way we give a little niece or nephew a candy for good things they do and taking away for frivolous reasons....I think this Obama administration finally understands that not everyone in the world needs to follow in stride with America to have a good relationship with countries...we all want peace, we all want the same things and we have different ideas on how to get there....reconciliation is key! great way to say it.

Why does everyone think it is the job of the United States to help the whole world and when they don't they are the bad guy? And to make matters worse - this help always has to be unconditional.

As the richest country in the world, the one with the most resources, and with the ideals that it has and has continuously supported for decades, the responsibility lies on the US to help lesser developed countries because it in turn, helps them/us. Is it that the United States only helps other countries when they stand to gain (opening up Eastern European markets through the Marshall Plan, helping develop China, the defeat of communism)? Look at Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Myanmar, El Salvador, Afghanistan, and many other examples as a counterargument...countries that we have nothing to gain from and are home to some of the world's most abominable acts of human violence, degradation, or whatever you want to call it. The United States is the bad guy in the eyes of many for the excesses, their inability to attain a lifestyle which is only given to the world's top 10-15%, miserable poverty, social corruption, religious differences, or simply their perceptions of America being a modern colonial power. I'll agree with you that unconditional is ludicrous, but there's a fine line between rhetoric and actual politics...the United States packing up its toys and leaving the sandbox like a pretentious child because it gets derailed verbally a little bit is pretty sad, especially when they don't look into deeper seated frustrations of a country, their culture, history, politics, and values. I feel Obama is a great person to finally bring an end to Washington's arrogance towards other countries and feeling that their "book smart" expertise is enough to justify their policy initiatives towards a country.

The United States has a population were 90% of its own people can't point at a map and locate it. They don't know what the capital is, they don't know what the French and Indian War was. The US needs to help itself before trying to help others.

But back to the issue...I do feel Obama is the new voice of reason as far as a better image for the US abroad, in a genuine way, but Correa still needs to get his head out of his ass before the US thinks of assisting Ecuador in any way. This guy is derailing Ecuador, not the US policy toward Ecuador - but Ecuador itself.

"Campeonato Nacional" means exactly what it says...not the same thing as "Campeon Nacional" - so I'm not sure what is so funny about it.

Wrong thread, man. but come back later and try again.
