Which game should I buy for xbox 360? In the past, I have been a big fan of Winning Eleven, but heard FIFA got a lot better in this version.

FIFA has improved a lot but it is still no PES in terms of overall gameplay. I bought FIFA when it came out but it has not been touched since PES was released. I think that says it all. There are several key aspects of FIFA that I do not like including the slow response of players, slow overall speed of the game, easy (perfect) goals and poor player models that do not take the intricacies of different positions and players into account. The gap this year is a lot closer and it depends entirely on what you personally want from a game. I prefer realism over cheap thrills for the casual gamer which is why I prefer PES. Since both games are out you should rent them to see what you prefer.

    Cue the usual discussions...

It must have alot to do with whichever game you are accustomed to, because I played the FIFA demo and still didn't like it. I thought the pitch was too small, players too big, and the response was terrible. Not to mention the menus and tactics section wasn't user friendly.

FIFA all the way! FIFA 09 features more than 250 core gameplay additions and enhancements that deliver the most responsive, intelligent and realistic action

Yet it still fails. Funny that.

Last year it did, yes. But this year, FIFA is far superior to PES. You must be joking....

******** me. After a few weeks I finally downloaded PES2009 to give it a bit of a trial and I must say:

It stayed on my hard drive for 20 seconds before being shift-deleted.

No apologies to the PES lovers out there (from what I've seen it's a pretty evenly divided field), but that game is utter bullshit. It should come with a label that reads, "Warning: Does not come with Xbox", because although I can see how this might be great for a console system, on PC it simply fails miserably.

Let me put it this way...everything that's great about FIFA09 is exactly what you don't see in PES2009. I believe PES runs smoother than FIFA and the gameplay is 100% more fluent, but that's about it. As far as controlling the game in any manner you want (picking pin-point places for passing and shooting, etc), PES is miles behind FIFA in every aspect.

From what I've seen, FIFA is simply the better game and simulation of a football match and PES is the arcade, kick a ball around for a while, bit of fun on the side (except without the "fun" part).

I use to be an avid PES fan but it isn't even close anymore. FIFA has completely surpassed it. Sure, there are still some "little" things one misses from PES but those are negated by the graphics, real names and real kits.

FIFA 09 > PES 2009. It's pretty easy this year.

FIFA has improved but I still prefer PES over it.

FIFA's Be a Pro mode is complete shit espcially since it comes from the same company (not studio) that has awesome Be a Pro modes in NHL09.

Also, I can't for the life of me understand why someone would say PES is arcadey and FIFA simulation. Tackling in FIFA reminds more of FIFA street than an actual footy game. Too easy to take the ball whereas in PES it takes real skill and risk to pull off a sliding tackle.

Add to that the goals in FIFA look completely boring.

There are things that FIFA does better then PES. Namely commentary and better animations and management mode. But on the pitch PES is better though I'm hoping PES2010 does a complete re-haul of the series as it's getting a bit dated now.

FIFA utterely fails on PC. It uses the PS2 engine not the next-gen engine which means on your high-res moniter the game will look like absolute shite.

    Can't download fan made patches?

Although graphics don't make a game, the FIFA graphics aren't shabby at all, especially with everything turned up and running on a "high-res" monitor.

FIFA 09 on PC has not anti-aliasing. Which makes to look shit on high resolution moniters.

i have the last few versions of FIFA and it gets better every year. they always have a new technology or upgrade and whether it has unbelievable graphics or not, authenticity and relativity to the real football world overcome the negatives. FIFA has real players and the ratings of the players are fairly accurate. The game has everything i would expect from a good soccer game, except the reaction time. and if you say the goals are boring, whos fault is that??? maybe your game has no personality... its called creativity.

    Little things like gameplay?

FIFA's player models and rating system is inherently flawed.

The fact remains that you can score carbon copy perfect goals at will in FIFA regardless of the player or team you are. You cannot do likewise in PES.

    ---

Remember that unlike most people who pass comment on this generation of football games I have both.

You must be joking. The gameplay for PES is absolute crap. Unless of course you like being able to finish a cigar in between passes and running down half of the field. It's that slow and uninspired.

I call bullshit on that as well. Just try firing in a goal from a long free kick with a 2nd Division player. Now do the same with a better player and you'll notice the difference immediately. You'll also notice there's variations on height and power from shots with higher skilled players. I don't think you've played FIFA all that much or are getting your information from others that have played and switched to PES.

The one undeniable thing between the two games that I've noticed is that you're either one or the other.

I disagree. In terms of player response and speed FIFA is undeniably slower. In terms of player models and rating PES has far more depth.

Player models? Like appearances? FIFA > PES.

    Ratings are equally good.

FIFA's gameplay has improved and is now better than the 8 direction gameplay of PES. Sorry but thems the facts.

Not at all. Player models in terms of attributes, ratings and how these are applied to the game. There is simply more to the PES player models and they have more of an impact on the game. FIFA still uses an overall player score...

When did gameplay only equal direction?

Finally, do you own both games?

No there isn't. FIFA actually has a stamina meter unlike PES where you can run all around the pitch on one play and stay at the same speed throughout.

As for the overall score. So what? That's what makes it FIFA and that's not necessarily the definition of a good player. There are a lot of game changers in this video game that are in the low 80s and even into the 70s.

It doesn't only equal that but it is a big part. You talk about the realism that FIFA lacks yet your content with moving in eight directions.

Own? No. I borrowed PES from a friend for 2 weeks during the Christmas break. Some aspects I liked but it isn't the PES I fell in love with years ago and it isn't a next generation game. 2008-2009 = FIFA.

I haven't played Pro Evo at all, ever, but I stick to FIFA. Licensing just bothers me. Sure, it's nitpicking, but the fact that only some premier league teams are licensed in the game and some teams such as Arsenal are "North London" is just kind of annoying- I have the same problem when I play lesser leagues in FIFA Manager.

I also would like to note this: I haven't played PES (as I mentioned) so I can't compare personally, but FIFA 09 got a better review in FourFourTwo than PES 2009.

Put it to you this way. PES use to be the king of Soccer. FIFA started implementing things from PES into its game.

Fast forward to 2008-2009 and FIFA has released the best soccer video game ever. A mix of great gameplay with licensing and amazing graphics. :)

This is completely untrue. Players get tired and you can see it when their marker turns red. They get slower and play poorly.

Directions alone don't mean realism. My main problem with FIFA was the ease of tackling. I was diving into tackles everywhere on the pitch and winning them. PES? I'd be getting cards left and right if I tried that.

If you tackle from the front, you're alright. If you tackle from the side, most of the time you could be ok, but sometimes you'll get called on it. Tackling anywhere from the back 180 degrees and you're in some serious trouble.

    It's like life.

My biggest problem with PES right now is the runs that players make and the times they don't do anything. I think the AI in this game is really lacking compared to the past version or I just have higher expectations now.
