Detroit Free Press feature on Lindsay Tarpley and Kate Markgraf making their homecoming Two Michiganders come home with U.S. women's soccer team
Pia signed for more years Pia to lead NWT through 2012 Olympics . I didn't see this posted elsewhere, so...
Pia Sundhage The Agent of Change by Ridge Mahoney "Q: Aside from the team training sessions and pre-game talks, how do you manage the players day-to-day? A: I don't have individual talks. Usually I take two or three players, because I want them to coach each other. "
On that same interview the question that got my attention was: This doesn't make a lot of sense... maybe is some English as a second language error?
http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_12025862.html "The U.S. players will now have a little more than a month off before re-grouping in late January for a training camp to begin the 2009 schedule under Sundhage, who recently signed a four-year extension that will take her through the 2012 Olympics. The team will also compete in the 2009 Algarve Cup in Portugal in March before the players join their WPS teams for the inaugural season of the new women’s professional league." I'm guessing no 4NT this year but it sounds like the Algarve is still a go. I suppose with the busy schedule last year and playing right up until, what, mid-December they decided to forgo the 4NT. I wouldn't have minded seeing a younger team go, maybe some U-23's since the U-20's just got back from their World Cup.
Four Nations Tournament Thread Teams are: Finland, South Korea, New Zealand, China The games start on January 10. My guess would be they didn't plan to go because of the WPS situation with player signings, drafts, etc. === I don't think Pia means there's any dissent between the two. Just that sometimes you can work really well with someone and not necessarily enjoy it, but if you do start to enjoy it, they it works even better. And by her saying 'If they like to play ...' I think she's trying not to say definitely if they do or don't like playing together because she doesn't know. Like she doesn't want to speak for them. (Does that make sense? Sorry. Haven't had my coffee yet.)
totally. I see your point red. I was just wondering due to Pia's English but I think she gets by just fine.
U.S. defender Kate Markgraf, a veteran of six world championships for the USA, will not be joining the U.S. team in the near future as she is pregnant for the second time. Markgraf had a son in the summer of 2006. Congrats KATE!!!!
