True grit. Clint makes for good copy with his measure of unguardedness, humility, and intelligence.

Well his 2-goal performance today against Chelsea is a career highlight. Doesn't get much better than that.

I think Clint is showing that he is the type of player that raises his game depending on his level of motivation, which may be why we never saw him play great against some of the CONCACAF minnow countries, it also explains why he started off so well in the EPL only to drop off in form.

Hopefully coaches can understand that and use that to get the best of out him, as he is obviously a "star player" in every sense of the word.

I'm going to take this with a massive grain of salt, but someone on the Liverpool forum (and not a Dempsey fanboy, mind you) posted that their scouts are looking at him. I could see Clint slotting in nicely on a supremely talented side, where his technique could be highlighted and his lack of pace minimized. He's not slow by any means, and seems to have gotten quicker, but he certainly doesn't have traditional wing speed. He's been playing some pretty inspired defense this year and you can't teach his desire to be first to the ball in the box.

jimmy bullard's absence was the perfect setup for dempsey to shine today. he controled the midfield and every fulham attack he had involvment in. he is playing so well latley its scary. his passes are on target, hes being creative but not the fancy way he used to, but the technical way, i cant wait for the hex games, hes going to tear it up

I would hate to see him at Liverpool. Demps fights hard enough to get PT at fulham, so he'd be on the bench at Liverpool. Being able to play weekly at the highest level is exactly what he needs. He is in the perfect situation right now.

Dempsey is a lot better than Nabil El Zhar, who has no trouble seeing the pitch for Liverpool these days.

i'm sure there was more than that, but the point is he was adding to chelski's defensive woes and those being that their backline is shite without terry. but thats another story for another day

Re: Clint Dempsey: I have showed I can play at this level

Fulham had 2 shots on goal; both went in. Cech made no saves. The first goal was a total defensive cluster f$%k and all Demsey had to do was knock it in as it came right to him - not exactly spectacular.

Their second goal came off Fulham's 1st corner of the match during the 90+ minut!!! The possesion was 59% in Chelsea's favor.

Let's not take away from Demsey for being there at the right time -TWICE, good job, but Fulham did very little if anything other than a few wide shots and the two goals.

Let's watch a few more games before creating new WC players in Dempsey and making it seem like this was actually a close game for Fulham! It wasn't.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is the other side of today's brace (the negative side, but still a side). They weren't wonderful goals, and he hasn't exactly been a prolific scorer. We'll see if it continues, hopefully it will. But I think it's fair to say that Chelsea weren't in top form today either. So they didn't deserve to win. Both teams were shit today and Dempsey's second goal was a good one. Not an easy header falling backwards.

Yes, it was poor defense. It was also not an easy tap-in for Clint. He still had to chest it and score.

Re: Clint Dempsey: I have showed I can play at this level

A player of his calibre, in other words, a professional football player, should have no problem making this move...this isn't exactly a "C Ronaldo/Messi/Ibra" move but a standard footballing move.

Who ever thinks this is hard, should find another line of work - chest it onto his foot and tap it into an open net in which he is practically already standing on the line - hard? I don't think so.

I don't want to take anything away from him but the first goal was a not as spectacular as his header was...

It was not a hard move to do or a spectacular goal. But your own words were all Demsey had to do was knock it in as it came right to him. To me, that means the ball rolls to his foot and all he has to do is kick the ball.

Looking at stats helps but won't always tell us the truth. If you watched the game, you'll know they did today.

A close game is when a game can go either way. Possession is even, shots on goal are even, etc, etc.

This, however, was not a back-and-forth game...

Let us also not forget that the goal to tie the game came about on Fulham's 1st and only corner kick that happened in the 90th minute. By then, Chelsea already had 7.

But it was not only the stats that can back this up...watching the game, Chelsea failed to win because they failed to convert their chances to score. Anelka, Drogba and Lampard all could have made it 2-3 or 2-4 or 2-5. Instead, they missed the opportunities and Fulham didn't. Two shots on goal and two goals. Dempsey did his thing and the Chelsea players didn't.

As I said, Cech did not make a single save, not one...because not balls came his way other than the two that made their way behind him into the net.

In the end, two set-pieces ending in two goals, or 30 seconds out of 90+ mimutes, does not make the match a close game. Truth is, Fulham was rather invisible for the majority of the match.

But, well done to Fulham...they stepped up to the plate when it mattered.
