Will the confederations cup this next summer be broadcasted by Univision? And if so, would I be able to watch all the matches on Univision and Telefutura, or will I also need Galavision?

ESPN and Univision have all FIFA rights until 2014, which includes the 2009 Confederation Cup. As far as where the matches will be shown remains to be determined. The matches will probably be split on ESPN and ESPN2. I suspect matches will be split on Univision and Telefutura as well.

Could ESPN sell the rights to FSC/Setanta if it did not want to broadcast the games?

    off the purple line
ESPN has not shown this competition in the past; it has only run on Univision/Galavision in recent years. However, ESPN has dramatically increased their coverage of football so I would guess that they will show the matches between ESPN/ESPN2/ESPN Classic/ESPNU. After all, they showed the U-20 WC and the Euros so I can't see them selling off the rights to this competition (especially since many of the countries have started to treat the competition with some respect by fielding quality squads).

When will univision announce their tv coverage schedule of the confederations cup? Also, isn't Univision airing the copa oro and the conmebol this next summer too?

is there a place where I can find the schedule of Univisions coverage of the 2006 world cup just to see what percentage of games are broadcasted by each of the three sister stations?

Unlike the Copa Oro, the Copa America (which is what I'm assuming you mean by CONMEBOL) is held every four years and the next one is in 2011.

If i'm not mistaken, I think the Final should be on ABC. I think all the games will be shown on ESPN/ESPN2, maybe the repeats on ESPN classic. US v Italy and US. vs. Brazil should be on ESPN, and US. v Egypt could end-up on ESPN or ABC (since it is a Sunday game). These are just educated guesses. ESPN/ABC wants to showcase this tournament for the upcoming World Cup Finals. I would assume ITALY V. Brazil which also falls on Sunday could end-up on ABC. The 3rd place match on Sunday June 28th could be on ESPN/ESPN2, and the Final Match on the same day on ABC.

    Here is my guesses:

Italy v. US (Live on ESPN, replayed on ESPN2 and ESPN classic)
US v. Brazil (Live on ESPN, replayed on ESPN2, Classic)
ITALY v. BRAZIL (Sunday Afternoon, ABC/ESPN)

    Semifinals:

    Game 1:
LIVE ON ESPN/ESPN2 ( more than likely, both semi's should be on ESPN
    Game 2:
    Live on ESPN/ESPN2

Both games will get replayed later on the night on ESPN2/Classic, possibly on ESPN as well.

    THE FINAL:

LIVE ON ABC (if not ABC, otherwise live on ESPN)

    3rd Place match:

Live on ESPN/ESPN2 (more than likely on ESPN If ABC's shows the Final)

In summary, i see 2 games on ABC, 5-6 Games on ESPN, and the rest on ESPN 2, and ESPN classic.

As you know, Univision will also be showing the games.

Univision showed all of the World Cup games, except on the last group match days, when two games were played at the same time. For those it was one game on Univision and one on Telefutura.

Well, like I said, I have both Univision and Telefutura, yet I don't have Galavision. My only fear would be if the entire tournament was only broadcasted by Galavision except maybe a game or two on telefutura and univision. Do you think Univision and telefutura will broadcast the majority of the matches or Galavision?

Don't know if this was mentioned yet, but if ESPN does indeed have the rights, you can probably expect that every game will be on ESPN360.com.

Not only that, But why bother watching it on Univision or Galavision when you can watch it on ESPN HD/ABC HD. ESPN wants to get ready for the 2010 World Cup, and this tournament will allow them to achieve that goal. So, i'm pretty much sure the games will be on HD and i wouldn't be surprised for them to have the same announcers from the European Championship. The hardest thing for me is that when you start getting used to watching HD broadcast, you don't really like anything on non-HD format. I have a hard time watching FSC because of the lack of HD format. The quality of the picture is not that good and i wish it was on HD. So, it is nice to look forward to these events on HD going forward.

    Confederation CUP 2009 (ESPN/ABC)
    World CUP 2010 (ESPN/ABC)
EPL finally landing on ESPN's family of networks in 2010
    Women's World Cup 2011 (ABC/ESPN)
European Championship 2012 (ABC/ESPN)...Not Yet Confirmed, but there is no way ESPN wants to miss the opportunity showing this tournament after the success they had in 2008. They want to have a continue flow of high-level Soccer tournaments in their portfolio.
    Confederation Cup 2013 (ABC/ESPN)
    World Cup 2014 (ABC/ESPN)

    Happy NEW Year...

My problem is that I can't afford cable so Im stuck with regular broadcasts, so I really have no other choices other than Univision, Telefutura, and Telemundo which I am lucky enough to have these three... I won't have cable this summer that is why I am so adamant that much of this summers tournaments don't end up on cable channels like Galavision which I will not be able to watch :-( Im definately getting cable though for the world cup 2010 there is no way Im passing that up!

if you cant get the games at home you could always try to find a local pub which will be showing them.
