Ahn Has MLS Suitors The Korean star is reportedly being sought after by a number of teams in Major League Soccer. Goal.com, 12/22/08 http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1110/major-league-soccer/2008/12/23/1025102/ahn-has-mls-suitors
Full name Ahn Jung-Hwan Date of birth January 27, 1976 (1976-01-27) (age 32) Place of birth Paju, Gyeonggi, South Korea Height 1.78 m (5 ft 10 in) Playing position Second striker, Attacking midfielder National team App(gls) 1997– Korea Republic 068 (17)
"Since then, he has been a somewhat inconsistent performer. " So he's 32, might have an issue with the language, and has been falling off so far since the World Cup that's he's been with six teams. I can't say I'd be excited for this signing, but he would fill the AM hole we're trying to fill. [EDIT] To put this to rest, it seems no one was interested as he wanted DP money. Confirms my thoughts that he's just one of those no-names that is after Beckham money. *Representatives for South Korean forward Ahn Jung Hwan approached MLS teams about a possible designated player contract, but there were no takers. A smaller salary demand might've attracted interest in MLS. You might recall Ahn, who turns 33 next month, was the player who scored the equalizer against the USA at the 2002 World Cup and then eliminated Italy with an overtime goal -- and was subsequently blackballed by his Italian club, Perugia. Since then, he has played in Japan, France, Germany and South Korea. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2008/12/mls_player_watch.html
How? He's a slow, old forward. I'll bet Zinha could come to MLS soon (he's 32, but still has it) or Rolfi Montenegro (29) from Independiente. Those are guys who aren't going to Europe anymore and are still great passers of the ball and free kick specialist #10s. MLS beckons....
Hong redux? Couple years younger, different position...why would he want to come here though? This isn't exactly a Korean expat hotbed.
Revs have a slow, old right wing filling the AM position now, so no upgrade there as far as I am concerned
Ralston's older. What I want to know is which of them is craftier. Historically, speed hasn't been the defining mark of a good MLS a-mid. Even an old fox can catch a young rabbit.
speed is certainly a plus. I wonder if he would trial with a team or if he thinks he is too good like a few players have in the past with MLS teams
I don't think we need a center mid with speed with this team. I would expect Nyassi and Mansally to get better. We just need a creative midfielder who can put our players in a better position. Right now, as much as I love Ralston and the work he does, we don't have that. Our offense is very flat and predicatable. Hence why we encountered a scoring drought at the end of the season.
I'd expect he'd be happier with a big paycheck than an easy one, and I doubt he can get a big one here.
Well, when Rallie was out there it was the only time we got desperately needed goals, after he got hurt, we had just about no goals.
as I said, speed is a plus. Fast a foot and fast thinking, neither can be taught. To me just settling with Nyassi and Mansally as being the only two guys with speed is not enough. With Khano leaving, the team did get slower
That's a cheap shot. I don't have any doubt that Kenny Smith's IQ is equal too or higher than the average MLS player (he's a high school teacher back home). That he's not always shown the best soccer play decision making on the field is a reasonable statement but lets not disrespect the man and his intellectual abilities.
Jeez, make a joke someone jumps on you. Do you honestly believe I think Khano Smith is actually dumb as shit? no. Do I think he was stupid when it came to whenever the soccer ball was at his feet? Hell Yes. So you can jump right off whatever high horse you are pretending to ride because Khano Smith is a former revolution player, and one that I will make fun of, much as I make fun of politicians. And if you truly have a problem with it, suck it up. Because If I can't enjoy a cheap joke at the expense of players who sucked and no longer belong to us than I suppose I'm not allowed to enjoy a joke at anyone because it would be "unfair". PFWAH! oh, btw, merry christmas!! Hope all the lights on your tree are brighter than Khano, otherwise you might not be able to see them.
not interested. This is a dumb move for us for 100 reasons. We've got youth and we have dinosaurs. We need so good solid mid career starter quality vets (25-29) vets who can make real contributions.
Seriously. Dumb Irishman left his job at the best possible part for himself. Always a strange one that Keano. (p.s. I am irish, so please no one jump on this one as well and say im being offensive)
Obviously you don't understand the differences between being smart onthe field and off. Some of the most brilliant soccer minds who have a sixth sense for what is going on around them and seem to anticipate movements before they happen can be dumber than Sarah Palin if you try to have a conversation with them about anything else. The reverse is also true. I don't think anyone can dispute that Khano's decision making and being able to think on his feet were behind the curve relative to his physical ability. Off the field, he was intelligent, well-spoken and generally a very nice guy. Just like everything in life, this is a shade of gray.
Of course I do. I was just defending one of our own from being Dissed by someone who does not identify themselves as a Rev fan. We can dump on Kenny Smith but woe to anyone visitor who tries.
Not one of your own? HAH! take out the mackem in my name and what does it say? And what do you do to identify as a rev fan? Sattva is a very convincing name for a revs fan. very. I am one of the proud members of the fort. I sat through the last half of a piss poor season and paid money to do it. I was at the Joe Public game where we lost ridiculously. You know, most times when people assume, that make an ass out of u and me. You Just assu-ed, because you made and ass out of u and u alone. (P.S. This is officially my favorite thread)
