Nery is expensive. Maybe on loan and if Nery pays part of it again.

We all know sooner or later Hugo will be coming back. He might as well gain all the experience he can. Coaching relegation fighting teams (almeria) big teams (real madrid) maybe coach in mexico again before he becomes a more humbled, experienced and motivated work horse for the country.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

    Now, can Hugo execute it?

    It remains to be seen.

Bro, the ones who can't execute are the players.

And why should that be a trait?

Those societies that perceive assertiveness as confidence seem to perform better than those who perceive assertiveness as arrogance.

Sad to say, but there is a lot of hypocrisy within our idiosyncrasies/customs. Embrace machismo, but denounce arrogance (ego). The irony

That may be the case but if the team doesn't perform, the coach will be the first one to go.

I never had a real problem with Hugo and actually liked the gritty attitude he injected the players with but he failed because he talked too much shit.

I hope he has learned the art of being humble.

Re: Hugo Sanchez (Tecnico) at Almeria

not saying you in particular, but I find it odd that the same people (here in BSMX and the press) that assume that humility is a trait that the NT coach must have, wanted the likes of Lavolpe, Mourinho, etc.

Just check out Mourinho.... classic stuff

I also fail to see how those who attacked Hugo's personality as being presumptuous, egotistical, arrogant, NEVER said anything of the sort about Lavolpe, who thinks he was (and is) the 2nd coming of Christ that has revolutionized Mexican soccer, is solely responsible for the exodus of players to Europe, and above all, the creation of an 'ism' as in Lavolpism.

He does not have to be humble. Just learn to control his ego and get real, be a professional. No more blaming the grass or whatever, accept he is human and can make mistakes.

This should be a good test for Hugo. He is not a good enough coach for Madrid, but it will get him some good experience in la Liga.

Moruinho can back it up. Big difference.
Lavolpe is just a typical arrogant Argentinian.

Mourihno was just as arrogant before he ever won a title and they never questioned him as a coach. How many more titles will Hugo have to win before people actually give him credit as a coach?

How do you know he wasn't questioned? he has criticized for his arrogance all the time.

Winning titles in a semi-mediocre league with a mediocre system can't compare with winning Champions

Just look at my team for an example. Sub champs two times in a row playing crap.

I agree with you about the hypocrasy that reigns supreme in our culture but my beef with Hugo was mostly about his inability to accept responsibility for his failures.

I also think he had every right to be the egomaniac he was because as a player and coach (even with his stint as MNT coach) he was rather successful but I also think his ego rubbed some players the wrong way.

One thing I'm sure of is that we'll see Hugo as national team coach again some time in the future. I, for one, am hoping he succeeds as a coach in Spain but if he fails, I hope he's man enough to admit his mistakes, whatever they may be.

Re: Hugo Sanchez (Tecnico) at Almeria

Have you ever wondered why you see virtually the same teams in the CL knock out stages? Have you wondered why you tend to see the same teams in Copa Libertadores? Even Concacaf Cup (minus Mexican clubs)?

In England, 5 clubs (now 6 with all the Abu Dhabi money coming in) are usually contention.

In Spain, 4 clubs are usually in contention.

and so on and so on and so on.

In Mexico, you have more than 70% of the teams that can match each other up dollar per dollar. There is not one firm, as they ay in Scotland that controls the league and accounts for more than 90% of all silverware.

The league is competitive (taking into the account that the ability of paying higher wages attracts more talent). What is debatable is the system in place. You may not like it, but it doesn't mean that it is not competitive.

I would say there is more merit winning the Mexican league title than the Argentine league title taking into consideration 1) the format and 2) the amount of clubs that are financially stable.
