In my anticipation of the US-Mexico match I found myself on the ussoccerstore.com website, which resulted in a feeling of irritation at the selection of replica merchandise. It wasn't too long ago that US Soccer had a huge joke for an online presence, and I do give them a lot of credit for how far they've come, especially in offering way more merchandise than ever before. But how they think that offering everything in the theme of Donovan, Beasley, or Adu is going to appeal to me - a 29 year old man, is absolutely baffling. It used to be easy to get behind McBride, and guys like Harkes and Balboa were easy to root for, but these days I find it increasingly more difficult to give a crap about the US Men's National Team. Or maybe I'm just tired of Christmas. Whatever.
You can get a custom jersey of whoever you want at worldsoccershop.com. If you want your gritty Ricardo Clark or Oguchi Onyewu jersey you can there
I'm sure if you look around you can get what you want. But I have to agree that this team is difficult to get behind. I have no idea why there just doesn't seem to be anything special about them. I mean I am a fan of Dempsey, Howard, Hahnemann, of course Frankie and most the rest of the team. But there just seems to be something missing. Maybe it's just early qualifier lethargy.
Yeah, I guess I am more talking about the personalized T-shirts with those players' numbers on them. I certainly know you can get whoever you want on the back of a jersey. I think I am in line with TimD's thinking, that this team is just hard to get behind. When I look around the world, other teams have a mix of experienced veterans and the excitement of youth. For us, I just feel like I am staring at the same "young" players who haven't done a whole lot to move the US forward over the last 8 years.
