I am still disappointed for the last 15th October and I am still waiting the famous 30.000 soccer stadium plan of Wilpon....... Meanwhile Miami will have again a soccer team ( Barça was undecided between Miami and NYC....... ) in 2011 and above all Hoffenheim ( 2.500 inhabitants ) is first in Bundesliga and the next month will have a 30.000 soccer stadium !!!!!! And the most important city in the world NOTHING !!!!!
Is it only possible to know if Wilpon is still interested to build a soccer stadium in Queens and to put a soccer team in MLS by 2012 ?
What is the main obstacle that prevents the Borough Boys to have a meeting with Wilpon to know truly his intentions ?

Napoli, you have got to be the most entertaining poster on BigSoccer. A Wilpon and New York #2 devotee to the end.

New York does have a beautiful soccer stadium, well they will this time next year. Won't be quite 30K, but it will be reasonably close.

We have been in contact with the Mets and they have not given up on this but they did not really have anything new to say other than they are determined to build a world class facility!

There were setbacks YES -and its not just something with the WIlpons - its something that is effecting the whole world. The Economy. They did not say this to any of us but lets face it - of course this is an issue!

If there was no economic issues the only setback would be infrastructure (parking) in the area but right now the Wilpons have a few other things on their plate

Please be aware that this is speculation on my part - they did not share any financial information with us!

    - 1) Citi - the company that owes them how much money for that beautiful new baseball stadium - well they are in in the Sh!ts - and

    2) Wilpon lost money with Madhoff - and if its true what was reported it was a nice chunck of change.

We have been in touch with the front office and they are open with us but really there is nothing new to report!

We were all a little dissapointed on the 15th with no bid but we have to face reality - he wasnt ready to move forward with this - if not for those reasons I think for whatever his reasons - he was not ready to put that plan in but they have told us they are still working on it!

We continue to meet with influencial people around the city and still get some positive responses and we will update you if anything comes up! We all knew and continue to know that if this is going to happen - its not going to be easy at all!

Stay tuned - dont give up hope and thanks for the support Napoli!

Master please don't try and confuse Fabio, NYC DOES NOT HAVE A SOCCER STADIUM. What you are talking about is a soccer stadium that is LOCATED IN NJ AND NOT NYC.

Fabio don't lose faith. NYC will have its team and stadium soon, maybe not as soon as we would like but soon none the less.

    FORZA NYC!!!!!!!! 2012

Nick, you never said what was reported about Wilpon and Madoff. Is Wilpon getting his money back?

dont know nor do i think they will be getting it back - i had heard something that those who lost money with him (not just the mets) might fight it but i seriously doubt it!

Wilpon may not be the right party at this point given all the money he's lost this year. But there are sure to be others (not Bloomberg, he's a politician though at some point he may be worth enlisting as well).

The SEC rules concering this are very complicated. Certain investors are made to return money and so on.

I don't know the particulars of this situation and I haven't read anything about any money being returned yet. Hopefully and like Nick says, he can recover some money.

Althought Jeff Wilpon (COO of the Mets and Fred Wilpon's son) came out and said that the long term plans of the Mets will not be affected. Also that the losses incurred in the Madoff scandal were personal losses of the partners of the Mets (Saul Katz and Fred Wilpon) not losses of the Mets organization.

My hope is that the Mets organization were the ones looking into the MLS team and not Fred Wilpon personally. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and full of hope and optimism.

What a crappy city then, no soccer stadium and no real American football stadium either. Damn.

Very true - i was confused as well - maybe some legal action! Who knows! There was a lot of money lost - the Mets were probably the smallest of the losses! There were companies that lost much more!

Ive said this to a few guys and I really feel it - Wilpon is the Leagues BEST chance at NY2 and maybe their last! The league has said from Day 1 they want 2 NY teams and the fact that this rumor started over two years ago and is still going because it might be crunch time for this team! There might be many investors lined up as we learned through our various meetings with city officals etc but Wilpon has something that other investors do not! LAND and not only land Privately owned land. The city is not going to give up land for a stadium unless there is a major case for a return in $$$ - So Wilpon is hte most attractive because he owns private land in the city that can be built on!

Also the city is not going to kick in a dime to build another stadium - so you need an investor with a few hundred million to build a new stadium - which we know Wilpon probably has between the Mets and his SNY revenue! The city would only kick in infrastructure costs - if that - BUT - they already agreed to kick in these infrastructure costs to the baseball stadium - so if they go with the plan that was publically stated - that they will build on the skeleton of Shea - then any parking, subway improvements to Citi Field can benefit any Arena!

I say this - I really mean this - I could be very wrong this is the MLS best shot at a second NY team (within the city limits) and it might be their last!

    Keep em crossed!
