3rd quarter almost done, 16-5 Blast over Kixx. 7300+ attendance Great attendance considering the Ravens are playing.
OKAY so here is syd chance to sayt that there was only 1000 paid 2000 kidin free and since it is a cold night in baltimore 4300 homeless people sleeping in the stands
Having listened to parts of the broadcast, this one wasn't quite as close as the final score would indicate. It was 14-2 at one point, and Philly's rally was too little, way too late. Until it is proven otherwise, the Blast appear to be poking holes in my claims that this league is demonstrating some parity. I wonder if Philly (or anyone else) will be able to give them a better game on the road. In a league where some teams can't break the 1000 mark at the gate, it must be pretty envigorating to have over 7000 supporters showing up.
and i don't suppose that will make any of you re-think the effect that the ravens have on a niche sport like indoor soccer, will it? "not going to be anyone there, ravens are playing," "probably 2,500 tonight, the ravens are playing." get it through your heads.
I actually have to give the Blast credit on this one. Last week the Pittsburgh/Baltimore game had a 70 share (70% of people watching TV were watching the Steelers game) in Pittsburgh. It's not as dramatic in Baltimore, but when you have that kind of interest in something it has got to have an effect on everything else.
then how come it didn't have an effect on the blast game tonight? or would they have drawn 11,000 if the ravens were playing tomorrow?
well, it's nice to do something for the less fortunate. so, either the blast just transcend everything, proving once again the superiority of the nisl business plan, or some people here know f-all about what actually impacts attendance and to what degree.
hey phil all i know is that my daughter told me the lower bowl was filled as she was stuck sitting up stairs. as for me i was watching the raven kick some dallas butt. any way if the lower bowl is filled that is a good crowd. by the way whom do you root for?
let's talk about kixx, man. struggling a bit. but dave k told me it's a two-horse race, so i'm still optimistic
Another game where the game itself was no where near as close as the final score would indicate. The Blast, (as has become their tradition), in an attempt to not run up the score on the other team, took the air out of the ball after half time. At the half they had almost three times as many shots on goal as the Kixx and if not for several near misses and some great saves by Pappas, the Blast would have run the Kixx out of the arena. The second half the Blast stopped pushing the action and the Kixx came out motivated and chippy, Maier had three fouls in less then 12 minutes and the rest of the Kixx used their size advantage to rough up the smaller, faster Blast players. Pappas had a bit of a meltdown in the third quarter, booted the ball the length of the field after a Blast goal. Two points stand out for me, 1) the Blast have an incredible advantage returning almost their entire team from last year, as you can see the timimg of the other teams is off a bit and 2) the Kixx made a regrettable choice for their away uniforms.
There were a lot of people there tonight. A habit I have not witnessed anywhere else is that at almost anytime during the game there must be close to 1,000 people or more out by the concessions. The crowd was loud, my wife was speaking to me and got steamed because I could not hear her and she was one seat away.
Soccer moms don't like football? They really wanted a free t-shirt? It is a below average Saturday crowd for them, but not drastically so.
They did not stick with the referee inspired uniform they wear at home, rather a look I can best describe as being similar to the hood of a Formula One car in the sixties and seventies. Oh, the Blast do have all of their banners hanging.
Hey Don, you should worry less about our attendance and more about getting you ass kicked as usual. Congratulations on that magnificent performance. Oh wait, Pat Morris was the only one who showed up tonight. You were too busy applying for college head coaching jobs to notice. Enjoy your stay, but be sure to update your resume!!
What's with all the 2005 barbs? And do you actually think Don D'Ambra posts on the BS forum during games?
According to today's Baltimore Sun standings, the Blast beat Rockford yesterday and Orlando plays at Rockford Saturday.
Guys.. I was at the game and there were 7300 plus their. No questioning that fact. Don't know the actual "paid number" but nobody can argue that Baltimore and Philadelphia are the top organizations right now in all of indoor soccer. They apparently know how to sell the game. So for relatively "new" owners like NJ, Detroit and Chicago have, and to go their own way...they deserve to fail. When you get 2,000 plus for your home opener, when you've had months to sell the game, you have no clue what you are doing. Close shop. So for the few ignorant who haven't a clue on this board to continue to bash Hale and Co.. look at where your team stands as far as numbers. Hale knows what he is doing, even if it has to cater to the masses (kids) at the games. Half of every attendance in Baltimore is under 16, but if this is all youhave to work with to keep going...then so be it.
