Camp cupcake is really important, as we need to continue to build depth for 2009. With all of our Hex WCQ, Confederations Cup, and Gold Cup, depth is going to be key. Bob will probably bring the "A" team to the Confederations Cup in South Africa (after all, that's the point), as well as the Hex games. But then what does he do with the Gold Cup? That's going to be the "B" team. It has to be. Next year's calender of games for the US is crazy. This is a chance for guys like Beckerman and company to show they belong.

(yes, as far as I know the Gold Cup is still taking place thru most of July: http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/wor...lmc-fifa-dates-2008-2014-updatemay2008-en.pdf)

I'd love to see Ryan Guy get a call for camp cupcake, seeing how the Irish League is on break from November to March. I think he could challenge some of the MLS guys, he has to be at least as good as Rolfe, Barrett or Casey. Probably still behind Cooper, Ching and Davies though. Bring him in Bob, give him a chance!

Hopefully Gibbs can complete his comeback with at least some playing time. I also hope to see Feilhaber at least get back in the national team mix.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Thorrington as MF/RB, especially because he's MLS and was adequate vs Guatemala.
If any YAs are called it would be Altidore (and Adu) but Villareal might have other ideas. All the YAs in Scandinavia are on break so they might be included in a 23-man roster.

No chance of Jemal Johnson at camp cupcake or in the friendly against Sweden. Zero. nada. None. He won't be at the camp because he's got games to play in England. And I don't think Bob will bring any players to the Sweden game who won't be at camp.

That's not to say he isn't worthy of a look at some point.

Maybe playing in a decent league would be a good first step.

Or one that falls in line with the Camp Cupcake schedule.

I think for some it is kind of there last chance to prove themselves and for others just to continue to train and stay as fit and sharp as possible for mexico!

I think the focus should be on the following:
    Rolfe
    Mapp
    Rogers
    Marshall
    Gaven
    Gibbs
    McCarty
    Holden
    Beckerman
    Bornstein
    Alvarez
    Buddle
    Franklin
    Twellman
    Barrett
    Davis

    Locked:
    Mastroeni
    Cooper
    Ching
    Clark
    Kljestan
    Parkhurst
    Wynne

Thank you, you were great, but your time has passed need younger blood....

I think Subotic should be on the roster. He's off in January anyways. Call it a bilateral audition. Take him out for dinner and to the beach. At least ask him. No harm there. (He knows it won't be the first team.)

subotic knows we are interested... he claimed he wont make a pick until after this season... best to keep up conversation, but i wouldnt necessarily ask him again...

kind of like if you have a friend who continues to ask you to come over and you have to keep saying no, it could get annoying

The US-Sweden match is Jan 24th, so the camp will be the week or so before.

IIRC its starts usually early to mid January and lasts up to 2-3 weeks with a game in there.

However, i would caution against the USMNT on not calling in the established players for the game vs. Sweden.

We have to play Mexico in the opening Hex game on Feb 11th. If we dont bring in our first teamers we are looking at since the Cuba game in OCtober without playing our top side together.

So while i hope they bring in a lot of prospects to the January camp, i hope we at least get an international friendly with the first team in there before the 11th of Feb. At least try and get a friendly in addition to Sweden a few days after on the international calendar.

I doubt we get very many of our first 11 for the Sweden match since it isn't a FIFA date. The first FIFA date is Feb. 11th next year.
