I couldn't imagine a more fitting way to bring home the championship. Any momentum is stopped with a quick counter to NY's first goal and the exclamation point is stamped with Frankie's goal. The club's savior sets it up perfectly for the everyman's hero. I've never been more emotional after a Crew goal. I can't wait to greet this club when they return to the Columbus. Biased or not, this team has won with as much class as any champion I can remember.
Too bad I can't embed Viddler video here. Here's Studio35 going batshit when the whistle was blown: http://www.viddler.com/explore/oshaughnessy/videos/6/ (actually shot by my buddy Chris.) Here's my video from a few minutes later: http://www.viddler.com/explore/oshaughnessy/videos/5/
I wanted to let Bill know as I was watching the news I did see the Crew's number 1 supporter at Fado's and to let him know that she is alive and well.
Evening folks. LAG fan here who went to the game to root on the Columbus Crew. You guys were the better team all season and thoroughly deserved to be MLS Champions. Overall, the match was pretty scrappy and largely devoid of any flow. As a fan of neither team, I wanted to see just some moments of sheer quality, and Schelotto's chip for the 3rd goal was it. He also had an amazing diagonal through ball into the box, and of course, his shot that went off the crossbar. I was devastated when that didn't go in. Would have been great to see. What a fantastic player you guys got there. Congrats.
Gaber is a pinhead, it was cool though (just before Frankie got the cup) that the other fellow corrected Garbers mistake ..... "Or Frankie Hedjuk " you know the one with the captains armband. but hell it was a minor glitch to an amazing day for THE COLUMBUS CREW
That really pi$$ed me off, too. But it was great to see Frankie's face...a WTF???-face, and he didn't waste any time, grabbed the trophy and started to cheer.
I hope that thing opens up so he can drink beers out of it!!! Edit: My bad, I thought it had a closed top. A closer look shows that Frankie will be able to fit plenty of beers!
I think this is the greatest picture of the year along with the one where Marshall is winning the header over McJudas to score against Shitcago.
Yeah, Frankie worked too long, and too hard, and went through too much to let Garber's little slip-up ruin that moment. Good on him.
I want to go back in time to all of those disheartened, doubting Crew fans (I was one) before the season started, and whisper four words, "we win the double!"
That's ridiculous. Before the trophy presentation, our bar turned the audio off the tvs we were watching... so we didn't hear the f*ups. Pitiful.
This may be elsewhere but I wondered 2 things: 1) When do we get to greet them at Port Columbus and 2) When is the parade????
After this fantastic season, after this historical victory, I have some demons to exorcise. There was a time when I wondered why I support any Ohio team. It seemed to me that any professional Ohio team was only serious enough to dedicate enough effort and resources to only be brides maids. I made a decision in the mid 90's to only support the Columbus Crew and the beautiful game because I believed they were different. After that decision, there were trying times to say the least. The pink slip episode and the Sack Anclueless banner (which I proudly participated in) THANKS CHELSEY for spearheading those efforts. Then there was the Sanneh and Paule PK's, which afterwards I put the Administrative secretary into shock when I walked in and slam dunked my scarf into her trash can. (Thanks to the secretary for not having me arrested and for understanding my frustration) I vowed at that time to never be back because I was at that time assured the Crew were just like the Browns and all the other losers. Im so glad that vow was only spoken in frustration and not really meant. Then came a few moments that showed promise. When Sigi came to town, there was a new feeling. When Guille came it solidified it. I remember all of us jumping and singing in front of the locker rooms when Guille joined the club. It was a special moment when the media recorded our singing to send back to Argentina to show Guilles past fans that this legend was in good supporter hands. God this town, this team, and these fans deserve every moment of all this! Thank you Drew, Tony, Kevin, Blake, Brad and Mary, Orinegrofan (Jose), Frank, George, Eric, Dennis the security guy for not arresting me several times, Andrew for loving this team enough to give time for the Lamar Jersey project, Crewfighter for starting the I love ya chant, hardhatmike, J. Clem, and Omar, Kessler for bringing the supporters groups together. Thanks to V-army, shadowbox, *cough* Aimer, Adam, Friedl, Fitz RIP, ladyupperdeck for providing history to fondly and/or not-so-fondly remember. Its now certainly all worth it. Thanks to Guille, St. Dunc, Franky and this great team for beginning a new future to be remembered starting this wonderful day. This team deserves to be remembered forever. Thanks to these same people for solidifying my love for the beautiful game. After the last seasons of being less than successful it really rings true that "Even long shots make it" But more accurately Even long shots DOMINATE! This team was by far not only the best Crew team in our history, but abosolutely the class of the MLS 2008! Love and a joyful Heineken or beverage of choice to all who have loved this team and persevered!!!!!! The biggest crew fan I personally knew was my mom who passed away this September. I wish she could have seen this but I know somewhere she is smiling. I will dedicate this post game celebration to M. Barker RIP GO CREW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just back from Fado.... Was beyond happy...even brought Kryptonite a pint. All that was missing was for Archer to be there so I can buy him a pint, too. I wonder whether the Dogpatch will have as many pages and stories on the game as it does for any Ohio State football game. And I hope McTraitor enjoyed watching the final from the comfort of his living room.
I can't help to think that Jim Nelson is smiling down on us. I had only met him once or twice in passing but it is a shame he was not around for this.
