yep yep. i think we're capable of outplaying a lot of the competition in this division with our patient passing style and speedy movement. especially with the signings we've made over the summer. the thing that could well trip us up is the size of the squad. it is still too small as evidenced by our current injury crisis up front. this will absolutely screw us over if we don't sign one or two more players. great performance against reading btw - no doubt in my mind we can easily compete at this level.

Just got back from the UK. Great time. Spent a few days in Nottingham and went to the Reading match. Great pissup prior to the match and we played well. Disappointed at the Swansea result but a fluke goal and a penalty-that-wasn't aren't enough to kill my enthusiasm. We do need to get someone on loan to partner Earnie up front. That is vital for the next few weeks. God knows when Tyson will return. He spends more time on the physio's table than on the pitch. We need 3 points against Watford. ranny, I had an absolute blast. Had to cram a lot into my holiday but I managed to stay a few days in Nottingham, it was great. I wanted to stay for the Morecambe match but the wife was having none of it. I wish I could find a good cob, decent chips and some mushy peas in the States, but I've given up.
I think the size of the squad and the forward line may lead to a long hard struggle for Forest this season, i personally think they will be fighting relegation this season
we've already shown we can compete against quality opposition. we beat wattford 3-2 earlier today and could (maybe should) have hit 5 or 6. i don't think we are gonna have any problems this season. having said that, this is the most unpredictable of divisions. i agree that the small squad may catch us out at some point - in fact it pretty much is doing right now with most of our attacking and creative players injured. but thus far we have coped pretty well despite this. to be honest i don't think any of the 3 clubs that got promoted from league 1 will be relegated this season. swansea are far too good to go down, probably one of the favourites for promotion in my opinion. doncaster are useful, and play good patient, intelligent football, like we do. all 3 have shown we can beat championship opposition. i think derby are going down, and there seems to be a general consensus that barnsley are going to struggle as well.
Wolves 5 - Forest 1 A friend who supports Wolves tells me it was more about them playing well than us playing bad, but from what I heard on the radio it sounded like we were awfull. Who thinks Calderwood will make it to Christmas?
^are you serious about calderwood?? he's doing a great job, you can't criticise him after ONE poor result! wolves will be candidates for automatic promotion, and will probably have one or 2 more wins of this magnitude this season. michael kightly might be the best player in this league - he ripped us apart today. although we were dire it's true. the absolute last thing we ever need to do is sack the manager. we need to sign a good defender i feel - preferably at right back. maybe we could sign a proven quality centre back and play wilson at right back, even though he has struck up a decent partnership with morgan at centre back.
Another loss and Calderwood needs to put a stop on the goals that the defense is coughing up as of late. With tonites loss Forest sit at 22nd with 4 points. Preston 2-1 Nottm Forest 1-0 Youl Mawene (50) 2-0 Neil Mellor (59) 2-1 Youl Mawene (og 67) Preston's Youl Mawene scored at either end as Nottingham Forest were condemned to a fourth consecutive defeat, going down 2-1. The home side went into a commanding lead with headers from Mawene and Neil Mellor, but an own goal from the defender meant a nervy final 30 minutes for Preston. But they held on to prolong Forest's 48-year wait for a win at Deepdale. The omens were never good for Forest having conceded eight goals in their last two away games - contributing to what was the worst defensive record in the league. And true to form it was Preston with the first effort on goal, but Darren Carter's left-footed shot flew just wide of the post. Despite Preston's early pressure, Robert Earnshaw did manage to hit the target for Forest but his 20-yard shot was fielded by goalkeeper Andy Lonergan. The rare foray from the away side did nothing to dent Preston's confidence with Barry Nicholson, Jon Parkin and Paul McKenna all having long-range efforts. The absence of goalkeeper Wayne Henderson and defenders Liam Chilvers and Neal Trotman, who were all still out through injury, was telling for Forest but as the half wore on they increasingly found a foothold in the game. Forest boss Colin Calderwood had given former Manchester United striker Andy Cole his first start for the club and the former England international forced a good save from Lonergan from 12-yards. But Preston continued to create shooting opportunities with Carter a constant threat from distance. His 25-yard shot forced Forest keeper Paul Smith to tip over the bar and Mellor's drive tested him again as Forest were looking increasingly desperate, and just after half-time Preston took the lead. Carter was again the instigator for Preston and his cross found Mawene who headed into the net having evaded the Forest cover. Minutes later 36-year-old Cole had the opportunity to level the scores but fired wide from six yards. Preston capitalised on the miss and doubled their lead. McKenna began the sweeping move when he drove into Forest's half and supplied Nicholson on the right. The midfielder carried the ball before crossing for Mellor to head home his second league goal of the season. But Forest were back in it when defender Mawene diverted Lee Martin's cross past his own goalkeeper midway through the second half. Cole was replaced by Nathan Tyson and the striker almost made an impact but Mawene made up for his own-goal by blocking the shot. Earnshaw should have hit the target with 10 minutes to go but he blazed high and wide. And Preston held on to record their fourth win in five games at Deepdale.
I don't know why you think Calderwood's doing a great job TBH. He had a lot of money to spend last season and we were still streets ahead of you. And despite the money you've spent again this summer you haven't started well either. Although, like us, staying up this season will be a decent result for Forest I think.
Another loss tonite on the road against Sheffield Wednesday and Forest is now 0-5 on the road. Tonites lone goal was off a deflection on a shot by Etienne Esajas which went off of Ian Breckin with Paul Smith helpless to stop the redirected ball. finally starting to get some luck our way! Lee Camp is a legend. such a relief to get a point at the end of that one though. that has to be one of the most ludicrous 5 minute spells ever. i am of course talking about the 1-1 draw at Derby. seriously, despite our league position, we have been playing well (unbelievable though it may seem). the only games where we have genuinely played badly were the Wolves game, and the Swansea game. our problem on the face of it has been inability to score while outplaying the opposition (this has been the situation in at least half of our games), and a defence lacking confidence. well now we have a new keeper who seems to have inspired confidence in his defenders, and the whole team are playing better defensive football. additionally several key players have returned from injury (mcgugan, garner, earnshaw, tyson, anderson, the list goes on......). hey presto, results are coming our way. finally. we need to grind out more results like we did today and on tuesday against crystal palace (2-1 win). when teams allow us to play our technical passing game, we will always beat them - we need to make sure that when they don't (and they generally won't), we have a plan b. we are now showing we can do this. it needs leadership and mental strength - what we have been most sorely lacking so far.
you need to give a manager time. it's difficult to really get accross exactly WHY he is doing a good job over an internet forum, but he really is. the obvious part of why he is doing a good job: 1) players he has brought in have been of an almost infinitely higher standard than those he has allowed to leave, or were brought in by previous managers. this is very very clear! his transfer dealing has been excellent. 2)the standard of football being played has improved drastically. i do mean DRASTICALLY. the less obvious part: 1) to people who don't see Forest play much this is not so easy to understand. he has a plan in his head. the club is evolving in the right way since he took over. it isn't producing incredible results overnight but there is a slow but sure improvement. 2) the club has an overpowering air of negativity hanging over it. has had for 10 years. this is much less so now than under previous managers, and you can actually feel it disappearing over time. it just needed a strong personality in charge to implement his will in terms of how to run the club. calderwood seems to be the one who can do that. i have to add that this is the main thing he has achieved - and might be more difficult for supporters of other clubs to understand. without this negativity and cynicism evaporating - the club was only ever gonna head one way. down. mercifully it looks like this is in the process of stopping. i'm not saying he's the next brian clough or anything! i mean he's been known to make tactically poor decisions (a small understatement!). but instead of just trying a quick-fix solution, we now have a manager who seems to understand the bigger picture of what needs to be done at the club - and it's bigger than just buying and selling a few players, and changing to a new formation. none of our previous managers have understood this, despite the fact that most of the fans have.
The only team I can remember as a kid when I saw my first Euro match on the TV was Forest and Sheffield Wednesday and have been a Forest fan ever since, but there is a cheer that I just can't understand. It sound like, "See that shabah. See that shabah. . ." What the hell are they saying?
The only thing I can think of that sounds remotely like that is "Sheep, sheep, sheep shaggers..." which is something Forest fans chant about Derby County.

Er Pichi Calderwood axed after Forest are humbled Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Colin Calderwood following a 4-2 Boxing Day drubbing at home to fellow strugglers Doncaster. The result saw Forest remain in the bottom three in the Championship, where they have won just four times this season since their promotion from League One. First-team coach David Kerslake has also left the club and chief executive Mark Arthur said: "We`re grateful to Colin for his efforts over the last two and a half years, in particular for leading us to promotion from League One. "But we`re in a results business and it`s imperative that the club stays in the Championship. "We need to five ourselves every opportunity to do that.'' Speaking after the defeat to their fellow strugglers - in which they trailed 4-0 before netting two consolation efforts - Calderwood admitted it was his side`s "worst performance of the season''. He said: "It was just one thing after another for us - we were poor with the ball and horrific without it. "We have been doing well recently but you have to come home and do the job in front of your own supporters. We didn't do that today. "We were certainly affected by the first goal and the second but it was a really bad day for us. But we will just have to battle away and try and come up with the results that will boost us again. "Good teams produce a consistent level of 90 or 95% of their best but we were below 50% in the first half and got punished for it. It was probably our worst performance of the season but we know we have to be very good to get results at this level.'' Calderwood was appointed as Forest boss in the summer of 2006 after winning promotion from League Two with Northampton the previous season. His first campaign in charge at the City Ground ended with defeat in the play-offs to Yeovil, with Forest incredibly going down to a 5-2 home defeat in the second leg after winning the first leg 2-0. But last season ended with a dramatic promotion for the Reds as a 3-2 win on the final day of the season - against Yeovil again - saw Forest pinch second place in the table and automatic promotion. Forest spent big in the summer, with Robert Earnshaw and Andy Cole among the high-profile arrivals, but after a promising start, they quickly fell towards the bottom of the table, and the defeat to Rovers leaves them 22nd in the standings, just two points ahead of bottom placed Charlton and part of a group of four teams which is threatening to be cut adrift of the rest.
