It's great to see these "non Portuguese" fans defending Ronaldo.

Had he left or I should say when he leaves Man U. they will be singing a different song.

Funny what club colors do to your eyes:D

We all know Ronaldo has ability and is currently one of the best players in the World.

But his performances with the Portuguese National Team leave much to be desired, that is what is being debated here.

So all you Man. U Fanboys, please discuss his Man U. Accomplishments over in the Man U. forum.:D

Pauleta is the alltime goalscorer for Portugal...although very few came in big games. Ronaldo is on the same path...

That is possibly true. Doesn't help though your team doesn't have a #9 and two of your starters are complete wildcards(Nani and Q).

What's the point of having a #9 when all of your wingers would much rather take the shot instead of passing the ball....

No top-class team should be starting both Nani and Q. You should bring them off the bench.
Suddenly, your midfield too has become decidedly average.

Not become average. Playing average and with some key mids injured and not playing right now.

Nani & Quaresma didnt start. Ronaldo & Danny started. In the second half Quaresma & Nani came in, Ronaldo went to forward and Danny went out.
But with Simao, Deco & Maniche injured, yes our midfield does become very average.

The problem I've seen is that since Ronaldo has been playing as captain he has been quite poor for the national team actually. Maybe he needs to be striped of the captain role & play like usual. Also that before the team was better built & the players were used to one another, wit Figo, Pauleta, Ronaldo, Deco, Carvalho, Miguel, Maniche etc. Now that was a team that had sooo much chemistr!!! there was no need to hesitate what to do, they knew their way of play & had such a bond! Now the team is full of players that havent got used to everyones' form of play, every player is very talented n sometimes play as individuals, especially the midfielders!!

ohh no doubt about that, but in 06-07 he just had that great bond wit Rooney that was lost last season, maybe bc Rooney did squander many chances or for whatever reasons, but it just looks that Rooney once again has found his form & is finishing what Ronaldo provides! I still think Ronaldo won't score as many goals & that there will be a balance b/ween his scoring and assists.

Your ignorant comments state otherwise. Take it to the thread on the NT board.

The difference between last season and those before it was Ronaldo having matured into a more composed player. Unfortunately last season the rest of his attack, for a number of reasons, squandered most of what he created. If it had not been for that then he would have had his goal total in addition to a very high assist number as well. How can a player who has just blown all of his peers away and had a stunning season be accused of salvaging anything?

This thread is not in the NT team board and there is a thread already there for discussing his NT performances.

There would have been a balance last season had what he created not been squandered. Will things change this season? For starters he will have less time to impress due to his initial injury and the team is fundamentally different through the addition of Berbatov and Rooney/Tevez being fully fit and performing. The latter three will aid his assist figure but whether he can replicate his goal figure depends on how all of our attacking pieces fall into place. Berbatov is also a provider which will take some of the pressure off Ronaldo but also hopefully not take away the chances he would normally have to score. At this point no-one knows what our attack will look like. Will they all play together or will one ride the pine? Will they all be heavily rotated between games or even during? We need to wait and see.

No one ever told you that you have to agree with everyone's comments.
If you can't express your difference of opinion without insulting others, especially someone you dont know then maybe you should go post somewhere else.

No need to attack the poster Teso. Uncalled for. Also, considering most of us here breath the National colors, while who knows how many Portugal NT games you have witnessed... It is EVIDENT that Ronaldo does not preform at the same level that he does for Manchester United.

And personally, I rather him play complete and utter shit at club level as long as he plays well for the Nation.

Wrong. This thread was created to include and discuss anything related to Cristiano Ronaldo, whether it be at the club level, the Seleccao, or if he goes and has another orgy with Nani and Anderson. The fact that this is not in the NT section is irrelevant.

He again had a 7/10 today. You guys are expecting him to perform miracles while he is still playing his way back into form.

Yeah funny how Ronaldo & Nani scored today....Nani's celebration shows he wasnt to bothered by Wednesdays dissapointment...Ronaldo on the other hand didnt celebrate his goal, I dont think he even cracked a smile...I wonder if Wednesdays game is still on his mind or if it was something else...

His performance wasn't great. He tends to do that once or twice every season when he feels his performance could be better.

It also helps when you have an in-form Rooney and Berbatov and an actual midfield.

Nani had the chance to score the same exact goal on Wednesday but he kicked it right into the keepers hands....

im sure ronaldo and nani would both love to score those same goals for Portugal. its just that the team isnt playing well... who knows but if they dont start playing well soon they will have to enjoy watching the world cup at home.

and anyways, if the players themselves dont care for Portugal (as ppl seem to be suggestiing) then why should we?

what a stupid statement, it's not that they don't care they are lost with Queiroz and his tactics. If you can't see the frustration on the players and know they are not happy with the performance then you must be blind or have never played the game yourself.

You can give up all you want I'm sure the Portuguese players will come out hard for the Sweden game even if Carlos puts out another stupid lineup and formation.
