Ok, so Valencia is out but we get Mendez, Cevallos, and Mina right? is anyone else suspended for this game after the card festival that was the game against Chile? I know Benitez got a card during the chile game anyone else knows if he had one before?

benitez is out too. he reached yellow card limit.
Borja might start in his place.
But Mina, Cevallos and Mendez are back.

We have to find a way to win this match..I hope Vizuete does not decide to play with one forward like he has done in previous away matches.

I would keep Elizaga in, he is a better keeper than cevallos.

Agree on everything but the "Borja sucks" conclusion to your post. Call him slightly-above-mediocre at best!

Borja is awful in my opinion. the only reason he went to europe was because of those goals he scored against river plate. did palacios from barcelona get the call up?

that's why i don't think ecuadorian soccer is quite 'there' yet, and possibly will not get 'there' anytime soon. if i were the coach, i would (referring to benitez) suspend him for an extra game for getting a yellow for taking off his shirt and missing the next game. there's simply no excuse for something as idiotic as that. instead, he'll probably be starting the next game after the suspension.

look at kuryani (sp?) in germany... he walked out on the team because he was pissed he didnt make it to the final 18 man roster for their game against russia. what does the coach do? he kicks him off the team permanently. in ecuador, someone who did that would probably get his a** kissed and be starting the next day.

I personally think that rule of taking your shirt warrants a yellow is stupid.thank the euros for that one, but this is Vizuete's fault. Felipe Caicedo did the same crap against Bolivia and what's more impressive is that the ecuadorian media has not made a big deal about it!!! at least make comments or make them aware on how stupid and unprofessional it is and the cost of doing so..

    Regulator, I disagree with you...

    These are rookie mistakes...
Hopefully the young Benitez and Caicedo have learned a valuable lesson...

    and Argetinefutbol,
    Vizuete, is not at fault.

Against Venezuela it is important that we score many goals
to make up the difference and catch up to Argentina.
I would use Guerron up front with Caicedo.
and play Bolanos at wing... let see what happens...:)

Anyway, Benitez and Valencia are out, Although Valencia's absence will be felt I can't help but feel a liitle releived that we HAVE AN AMAZING MID-FIELDER'S ROSTER. we still have Mendez, Ayovi[who played great against Chile], Urrutia, Castillo[is he injured why the early sub?], Guerron and Bolanos. now Benitez on the other hand is something I'm seriously concerned with.....who the he11 is going to replace him??? Palacios maybe? Borja?? will Guerron pay a ittle more forward than ususal? either way WE NEED TO AIM AT THE 3 POINTS, IT'S PAYBACK TIME FOR OUR MOST PAINFUL LOST IN THE LAST 12 YEARS.

I think we need to try Guerron/Palacios at front!
    Not conviced with Caicedo! OR
Just Put Palacios in and get Caicedo a little more freedom to go back and act as the enganche. Keeping Guerron on the right

Yeah I would rather have palacios in there instead of borja never seen anything good out of him. And borja had his chances let palacios try.

I agree Benitez is a twat for taking off his shirt in these conditions - total lack of professionalism. But what happened with Kuranyi in Germany is different...Germany have Klose, Podolski, Gomez, Helmes, Keissling and many more that could easily take the spot of 3rd striker. Ecuador does not have that luxury.

guerron didn't impress me at all. i think he's gonna be another carlos tenorio.

valencia was hungry for a goal and wasn't scared to take shot. that crossbar!! he's getting better and better and to me he's gonna become the best one we've got. just gotta stop making stupid fouls like he did today.

and benitez's shirt. for some reason i thought the rule was put in place just so players wouldn't bare their chests (and so we would be saved from seeing hairy ass mofos like ryan giggs). it seems like benitez had this in mind so he had an under shirt. is what he did really that much different than messi lifting up his shirt (but not taking it off) after he scored one on uruguay?? what a stupid rule.

the venezuelans are hungry for a victory too. down 3-0 at the half, you could tell that they were pissed off and really trying to make a comeback. they weren't intimidated by the mighty brazil or the amount of goals they were behind. maldonado is a beast and whoever's gonna cover our goal has to be damn perfect.

I'm not conviced by guerron on the tri yet, this guy hugs the ball more than Salas did back in the day.
And Bolanos is still owing us alot more too.

yeah, you're exactly right, we're riding high off this win, but it's important to now touch the ground firmly and start working again--Venezuela will not be a push over, especially after their terrible loss vs. Brazil, with Valencia missing and our best forward absent, we almost have an "improvised" attack up front with Caicedo who was not shining and now we have to rely on a Borja that hasn't done squat since scoring a header against Brazil 2 years ago and a Palacios that is still unproven. For me, it's Caicedo and Palacios up front and I hope they both make the best out of it. We need to win, and should win big, because we have ground to cover to start catching Uruguay in GD.....vamos Ecuador!!!!!

Taking the jersey off is considered "time wasting". It doesn't matter what is underneath!

You know I've been tempted to suggest bringing El Tin back to play like he does in Liga, last 15-20 minutes. Now with Benitez missing that would have been an interesting option.

My thoughts are that we should be favorite on Wednesday, even though we are visitors. We are clearly better than Venezuela, man for man. And we are playing better, with more confidence, than they are. We will need to keep an eye on Maldonado, but similar to Chile I think they will have trouble matching the speed of our wingers and the size of Caicedo.

    Here's my starting lineup:
    -------------Cevallos--------------
    De Jesus -----Hurtado------Mina
    ---------Sombra----------

    Guerron-----Castillo/Urrutia-------Ayovi
    -------Mendez-----Bolanos

    -----------Caicedo-----------

It's a 4-5-1 but with Guerron and Bolan~os speed on the wings it will be pretty offensive and Venezuela will be forced to keep their wingers back or else our counters will stun them.

Castillo may be injured so Urrutia is more than good to replace him.

In the 2nd half, if we're not winning, we put in Palacios to play in front of Caicedo and take off Bolanos or Guerron and go to a 4-4-2. If still nothing with 15 minutes left, then Borja can come in for another midfielder.

It seems obvious to me Benitez wasn't thinking about yellow cards when he celebrated. It was the joy of the moment.

I think the rule itself is total BS. It's not obscene, it's not in poor taste, and I don't see how it wastes any more time than any other goal celebration. I didn't even know it was a rule until yesterday, as it's been a pretty common type of celebration for a long time.

Last year you may remeber he scored a goal for Santos and he took off his shirt and it said "Feliz Dia Papa" underneath - c'mon, how can you punish something like that?
