I thought when Liverpool played Juventus in the 1985 when a couple of Italian fans opened up their Berrets into the English crowd ater the english fans started pushing them around was taking it a little to far. Platini tried to calm things down. It must have worked because they continued to play after and not call the game.

 

It's also full of invention and absurd innuendo. Trust me I was at some of those games. When you delve deeply into hooliganism there is nothing but a netherworld of ugly, stupid thugs who have each other's cellphone numbers to arrange punch ups or go around smashing up pubs and terrifying normal people. It's not exciting, cool or remarkable, just boneheaded fat balding low life with a love of ugliness. And they're not even hard, as was proven by the Arab youths' running the English in Marseille in 1998. I just wish this whole hooligan nonsense would go away.

what I found absurd about among the thugs was that he spends quite a long time saying, to his disappointment, just how difficult it was to find some fans who fitted the hooligan image he had in his head - but then he did find them, he somehow tried to claim that's what supporters were really like. You might as well go drinking in the roughest pubs in town and get chatting to the most violent looking people, and when start scrapping, declare that that is what pubs are really like.

Odd, but it seems that the Metro fans are taunting DC fans, in fact one guy is shown telling someone to come up and meet him and he will beat the crap out of him, and then they get upset when the taunts actually produce an outbreak of a fight. As if they were innocent, all along. The one guy who says "This is what happens when we come to DC" should have probably said, "This is what happens when we come to DC and spend 2 hours throwing insults back and forth at each other while getting drunk."
Anyways. Sucks it happened, but this further proves stuff was flying from both ends.

These two films are the ultimate holligan movies non of that ponsy shit they get straight down to the nitty gritty.

Worth watching both 10 out of 10.

english invented the word soccer for the sport so you lose, and who the hell was talking about baseball.

 

Well that seemed to be the M.O.'s of the hooligans portrayed in Among the Thugs as well. Basically you provoke the other side (cops or other team's supporters) until they react in some way, and then you are justified in going off on them because of some sort of weird twisted psychology that makes you the victim.

 

You see it a fair amount in certain pubs in England as the night goes on. Some people enjoy a bit of a fight, but will actively try to provoke a reaction in a succession of random bystanders until one provides them with an excuse to kick the crap out of them.

 

1) i like hooliganism, only if its between hooligans only, its stupid if theyre gonna attack the familys and ppl not involved

2) that MLS/Red bull documentary was really old, i wanna see an updated one with the 3,000 supporters in Columbus, expect more next year, and alot in Montreal

3) In brasil, where im from, they call it Futebol, with hispanics, they call it futbol, in germany, its fusball or something, just because they call it "soccer" in america doesnt make it a different sport. theyre All united under the Game and Rules of soccer, futebol, football, etc. quit complaining its annoying

And the English, and futebol supporters WORLDWIDE better quit hating on the MLS, just because its being played in america. In the US, the sport is being laughed and joked at by ESPN, Sony, and way more media outlets and the People of america (where american football fans are the majority, and spit on the mention of the game who dont know better). MLS is trying to bring it Worldwide, and make America embrace it like it is everywhere else. Would you like to see the sport, or person you love being laughed at ? no, support it, and stop insulting it because you have it better.

 

regardless of what hollywood and the media tell you. do you know the roots of skinheads? its not a white only subculture.

 

actually there is the real football factories and the real football factories international. the main actor danny dyer from the football factories does a pretty decent job going around the globe following that sort of thing.

You should really check out "I.D." a BBC (?) TV movie about a cop who goes undercover to catch hooligan leaders of a fictitious club called "Shadwell Town".

FYI, if you download an updated version of Realplayer you can record videos (FLV files) from Google Video, Youtube etc. The videos will also work with the VLC media player (it doesn't record though).

 

God knows far more violent things (stabbings, shootings) have happened than that video. Most of them in the last 2 years since that was made, bunch of whiney Metrobull fans trying to start fights on video doesn't = hooliganism.

I've seen some pretty lame things go down, but if we wanted a fight we just showed up somewhere and attacked or get attacked.

There wasn't much provoking either way as you don't have the time and already had to make a choice between going to the game, or showing up for the fight. Doing both is next to impossible at many Dutch games.

Mind you, I've been a good boy for over over 5 years now and fun as it me be, hooliganism is a pretty stupid game to be playing unless you're prepared to pay the price.

I really liked The Firm, didn't care for Green Street (though people who aren't familiar with the sport love it), and thought Football Factory was ok. The Real Football Factories is interesting, but I hate how Dyer has to act like he's in the middle of the most dangerous places on earth.

Either way, hooliganism is fun to talk about and shit when you're far away from it, and the fictional stories told in movies and books can be fun, but these are some sad blokes in real life. Sociopaths in their early adulthood/teens mixing in with these sad bastards who are 30-40 years old. Like Harry Redknapp said, they can't tell you the difference between a touchline and a clothesline.

It costs so much money for police to keep it under control, too. Take a look at this BBC documentary that they made for World Cup 2006. They made another one for the 2002 World Cup that I downloaded a long time ago, but I couldn't find it.
