There are afew basketball fans on this site, and hopefully we can get some good discussion for the new NBA season getting ready to start in 2 months. Now, I know people usually start threads on their team, but theirs really not enough people to start a thread on just one team. That is why I created this thread so we can have all NBA talk here. Wether it's your favorite team playing, trade talk, coach talk, gm talk, player talk say it here.

My favorite team is the Miami Heat, since I live in the area and although we were the worst team in the NBA last year, I am expecting the playoffs. Wade is back to top form, with Marion and Haslem to score and rebound the ball well, as well as bringing stingy defense. We have the #2 pick in Michael Beasley, who will be a star, and a solid 2nd round pick in Mario Chalmers from KU, who hit the clutch 3 to send the NCCA game into OT. We have some nice young players in Dorell Wright and Dequan Cook, who both can shoot, and are explosive to the rim. We need a center, and we have 3 men in Marion, Beasley, and Haslem who can play the 3 or 4. I expect this team to be a 4th or 5th seed, and if play exceptionally well, a 2 or 3 seed. Post about your team, and i'll leave my thoughts. So lets try and get this going.

A 2 or 3 seed with no center or PG?

I guess preseason is the season of optimism.

In a week Eastearn Conference which Wade is back to 100
% status. Along with dynamic players such as Marion, and Beasley. Have a solid bench, and although I dislike the man, J-Will was the starting Point Guard on are 2006 Finals team, I think he can get the job done. Personally, I rather get him out of Miami, and let Chalmers run the point.

Wow its funny what a few olympic games do to fans. I'm a big Heat fan, but I'm not that foolish to say 2 or 3 seed in a weak east. Sure Wade looks good now, but that is because he is coming off the bench and is playing against other bench players, so naturally he will look like he's 100%. I'm a big Matrix fan and all the other players look good on paper, but lets just see how they play defense as a team since they will be facing King James, KG, and others on a nightly basis. Lastly I don't know how big of a Heat fan you are, but it would appear that your not up to par with the team news since White Chocolate is with the Clippers now and not with the Heat. So our PG options are limited as they have always been for the last few seasons. Combined that with an inexperienced bench, we have a ways to go if we want to get back to championship status like a few seasons ago.

Good thread to start, now lets see where the other BS fans's loyalty rest.

Wacth every game, and try to catch a few games a year. I live about 35 minutes away from the arena. Anyways, I usually keep up with the team, but didnt know the new about J-Wll leaving, which to me is a good thing. A starting 5 this year, is really hard to predict. I would thinl Riley would go with Wade at poin, due to the inexperience and lack of. Unless he wants to throw out 2 rookies in the starting 5, which I doubt. SF would probably either Marion or Beasley, depending on Pat and his desicion to start Haslem, a sloid role player over the last few years, or let him be a bench player. So Wade, Wright, Marion, Beasley, and Blount. With Haslem, Cook, Jones, and Chalmers coming off the bench.

I just cant see them being as good as Boston, Detroit, Cleveland, Orlando or Washington to start with, too many holes and young players to rely on.

Hi, guys, a little digression if you don't mind. I'll be in the US in March and April of 2009 (NY, Washington, Philly, LA and San Francisco) and would love to catch an NBA (or NHL) match. Can you tell me in general what is the price range for regular season games (and are there differences between let's say Knicks and Warriors games) and what is with availability, do I need to make reservations in advance and stuff like that (I guess this is also not the same for every team). When the season starts it will be easier to find out stuff like that so I need just a couple of basic pointers now. Thanks.

Well I commend you for being a better fan than most of the front runners down here but like Walter said there is just to many better quality teams in front of us. Also your proposed starting 5 is lacking something that killed us last year and that is rebounding. Besides the Matrix, who will get his typical double-double, Wright, and Haslem no one else rebounds. Its funny Blout is 7 feet, but can't rebound for anything. Another important factor to keep in mind as well is that Riley is strictly GM now and Eric Spolstra (however you spell it) is in charge. I'm not saying that Riley won't have his hand in things (Ex: Stan Van Gundy), but most of the things will be run Spolstra's way so we don't know what to expect from a rookie coach. Other than that I hope their Europe preseason tour goes smooth and we get back to respectable form.

As for ToastyFire, man your Bulls have so much potential but fail to deliver(you've probably heard that for years). Who knows what to expect from you guys, especially with your new coach, isn't it Vinny Del Negro? The one thing though that I look forward to is that when you guys are clicking you guys are one of the most exciting teams to watch in the league. I rememeber a few seasons back in the 06' playoffs when you knocked the Heat out you guys were a pleasure to watch. Obviously you don't have the same team since then, but at least the core players are still there. Good luck if you guys ever figure out what to do with your team.

As for prices, just look around ebay, nba.com, and other ticket selling sites. They could change depending on last years team's performance and how the economy is shaping. For example the Minnesota Timberwolves were bad last year so they would have one of the lowest prices in the league.

Choosing between Knicks and Warriors, save yourself the torture and avoid the Knicks and Nets. Warriors are young, don't play defense, and score a lot of points.

For tickets/reservations, best bet is to go to the teams website (you can access each team through nba.com) and look at the seats you want, price, and they will have a number that you can call to talk to someone to help you make the best selection. I've done that in the past when I saw all the Texas teams (I highly recommend). Good luck with your search and let us know how it turned out.

Quite optimistic about he season ahead. We have tons of youth talent but a strong playoff run may be a few years away. 1st round pick Jason Thompson has been getting raves in the NBASL and he's been compared to the Mailman himself. With players in each position almost set I feel we can make a good run for the 8th spot but the West is improving at such a drastic rate that it be difficult. It will be interesting to see if Salmosn can make the big step up and shine at the 3. Artest's depararture leaves me with mixed feelings. Loved him as a player but I knew we couldn't retain him for long. This is now Kevin Martin's team and I am fully confident he will take full advantage of this opportunity. :)

Yep, it's Vinny. I'm excited for the possibilities with the addition of Rose and resigning of Deng, and the addition of a new coach. It's going to be an interesting season.

I have no idea. I really wish D'Antoni had signed with them though. They had the perfect personnel for his run&gun style. With their talent, they should make the play-offs, but then, the same was true last season.

If we don't make it to the Finals I consider the season a complete failure. It annoys me that Artest is a dumb sack of shit and didn't opt out of his contract. With him we'd have won the whole thing without much trouble.

This is where the Lakers begin their run of winning 5 out of the next 6 with ease right?

I purchased tickets off various team websites. They are reliable and in the least, you can see prices and fixtures.

Aren't they just a rebuilding team? I just found out that they traded Mo Williams to Cleveland. On top of trading Yi earlier in the summer, there isn't much they have. Sure they got Andrew Bogut(however you spell it) and he is good for a double-double everynight, but I have never heard anyone say "oh watch out we have to defend against him or we have to try and stop him." For such a high draft pick he was(not sure but was he a #1) I think he has underachieved. So have the Bucks from when they had the big 3 of Cassell, Big Dog, and Ray Allen and were on the verge of the finals in 01' to a rebuilding team in 08-09. Wait a sec.... can't be as bad as the Heat going from the title to the #1 pick in 2 seasons, I take that back :D. Good luck this season.

They got that Sessions guy at point. He looks like a real player. And they traded Yi for Richard Jefferson. Plus they got Redd bombing away from everywhere. I think Redd has become more of a complete player offensively then he used to be. Before he could just launch. I think they can be a really good team. As in above Cleveland but not Detroit type good. Alot depends on Bogut and Villanueva and those inside players. Outside they're as good as anyone.

They won't do as well as the Magic (and I'm not a Magic homer). They will be duking it out for 6 or 7 spot. Sessions looks ready to take the team over but his shooting is awful. Getting rid of Williams was actually a good move IMO mainly becuase they shed his huge contract. It would not surprise me if Bogut improved more this year.
