Now that we have a Breakers forum, I figured I'd create a catch-all thread for discussion concerning the Riptide - the Breakers supporters group.

Our website is here, and here are some of the basics:

We are in need of a logo design - something in shield form that is easily transferable (can be put on scarves/tshirts/etc. easily without too many colors). As you could probably guess, blue should be the primary color. If we choose your logo, you'll get a free membership. Designs can be submitted to info@riptide08.com

There will be a supporters section at Harvard Stadium - section 14. Standing, singing, drumming, and other forms of enthusiastic support for the Breakers will be encouraged in this section. It'll be called the Dock. What we need: some creative songs! Some of the old soccer classics can be adapted to our needs, but we also need a few songs of our own.

Another thing we'd like to do is create an award to be given from the Riptide to a Breakers player each season - a sort of supporters' choice award (much like the Midnight Riders man of the year award, for those of you familiar with the Revs supporters). It'll be based on voting from Riptide members.

For now, we'll probably just exchange ideas and build a network of fans online - our first general meeting will likely take place this winter, before the 2009 season starts. We can elect officers and being formal memberships then. Meanwhile, post any ideas, comments, or questions that you have here!

    Good stuff M6!
Hope you drew some interest at the tailgate, having an ISG in place before kick-off is a great idea.
A pro soccer atmosphere at a pro soccer game... what a concept!

If I recall correctly from what M6 (that is so her title from this point on!) told me during the game, roughly 25-30 people expressed interest in the group. This is just a great start!!

I still have that file on my computer of the logo my old roommate designed. If you need it again, I will re-submit.

Hmm. We need it to be something better than just "Woman of the Year". Something nautical that sounds like it has supremacy to it. Harbor Mistress is all I can think of at this time. Because after all, if they are getting an award from the Riptide it is because they saved us from defeat at least once.

Great work getting this thread up (I am shocked that it took me this long to find it).

Also, we need to start coming up with songs and chants that are unique to the Breakers. We have a great chance to start out strong, but we need creativity. I don't want to have to fall back on "Boston Breakers Clap Clap Clap". It would be awesome if we could hand out song sheets at the first game, but now we just need some creativity.

C'mon Matty, If we call it Harbor Mistress I'll be submitting my resignation pronto! Let's not get to gimmicky....I like The Dock(it describes our section and will make for a great banner!)

That being said. Why not keep it simple, If we don't like Riptide Woman of the Year(which I like)...How about Riptide Player of the Year or Riptide MVP.

Agreed - let's keep it simple and classy. Along these lines, what should the physical award be (trophy, bowl, shield, plaque, etc), and what should that be called?

As well as criteria; should it be for the top player 9and what does that mean), highest scorer or something along the lines of the Bruins 7th player award....best non starter, etc

I think a Plaque would be nice; 1 for the player and one for the Breakers offices?

It so happened that the Midnight Riders award for MOTY is a pewter bowl actually called the Paul Revere bowl from the company we order from....that worked out well...

As far as Riptide go, the company we used for the Riders award and the golf tournament trophies have alot of options we can go with...I'm sure we'll coome up with something great!!

In the meantime, let's get a logo!! I hope we get some entries or ideas. I like Matty's design but it needs a little something else...I can't quite put my finger on it...but I'll know it when I see it!!:p

As soon as we have a logo to go with we can proceed and design/order our The Dock banner!!:D

I think he's going to submit the design again but maybe after we get a few designs in we'll put them out there for members to vote on...

There's not really a rush on it but we'd like to get it done. The sooner we get that the faster we can move on getting other things like the banner and promo materials done...

That being said we want it done right the first time so we don't have to/want to change it down the line...

This is why I don't get involved with creativity.

Speaking of creativity, we need some chants. We can adapt a lot of standard soccer chants, but I also would like to have a couple of Breakers originals in our repertoire. And, some player-specific chants would be nice too. A Lilly one is a must.

    Any ideas?

Hi all, some of you may recognize me from the Revs forum (or even in real life;)), and I figured I'd try to contribute what I can. I don't know if any talks have gone underway with anyone, but assuming not, I decided to try out some website re-design. It's a long ways away from being completed, and is done in my free time, but if you guys want to give me the green light, I'll be more than happy to help out. Also, I've included a logo mockup in it as well, taking inspirate from FC Dallas' "The Inferno".

The logo obviously needs some refining, and I'd still have to code all that (the nav menu and body text would be the next steps), but as I said, I don't want to start anything if someone else is on the job.

You get the basic concept of the logo, but it's just a rough concept there. I've also considered something along the lines of this Inferno logo, with a water drop and an anchor as opposed to a flame and star:

Hi Nathan - We're definitely looking for a logo, preferably something in shield form so that it can be easily transferred onto merchandise. If you want to help out and try to design something, that would be great.

Looks sharp. It will go great on a beer label.

Will there be a preseason meeting at some point?

The logo designed by Evan looks great! Ellen and I look forward to joining all of you and enhancing our Soccer experience with the Breakers. Let me know how I can assist.
