Hertha Berlin signed Andrej Voronin on a year long loan from Liverpool at the close of the transfer window so I think that Caicedo was the back-up plan assuming they couldn't push through the Liverpool deal.

Unfortunately, I have to blame Caicedo's agent. It has been clear to me that Caicedo is not in Mark Hughes' current plans for Man City. To my knowledge, Caicedo only had about 2 matches of about 65 minutes each in the pre-season. Man City seems to be in win now mode. The last 2 games, Mark Hughes has opted to go with 1 striker (Jo) and then a more experienced attacking mid as the second striker (Elano or Shaun Wright-Phillips), despite having both Ched Evans and Daniel Sturridge. Now both players are young and might not be able to carry a full 90 minutes, but they have shown some flashes of ability. So right now Caicedo is striker 5, soon to be 6 when Benjani comes back or 8 if everyone was healthy.

Suposedly, Man City also want to sign Ronaldo in January when he is healthy. Hopefully, Caicedo will get some reserve team time at least.

No one posted Wigan boss Steve Bruce's praise of Valencia after the Hull City match so, I figured, I better post the link below.
"I thought the outstanding player on the pitch was Valencia, he had a fantastic match."
    http://www.wiganlatics.premiumtv.co.uk/page/PressConference/0,,10429~1380968,00.html

I also think that the signing of Amr Zaki has really benefited Valencia because he now has someone to hammer home his crosses.

Caicedo got mad skill. He needs to be played more. Seems like they need to put more trust in him to play. If he gets bench a lot, that will be a waist of talent.

If he had MAD SKILLS, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Plus when you look at Man City Striker, Which one is really world Class? NONE!!!

have to agree... even if he does have nice foot work, he can't finish with the chances he had. he only has himself to blame. should have stayed a year more with Basel. they r now in the champions league. he chose a bad time to leave. too bad he can't go back. but he got to learn how to tap the ball in. maybe Noboa, Pablo or Ivan can show him the way.

I've always thought that some players don't have the style suited to the English league. For instance, de la Cruz was always a bad fit because wingbacks in England aren't known for attacking. He had one decent year with Aston Villa, but it was decent mostly in the defensive sense, he never showed his attacking capabilities that made him a threat for Ecuador.

Felipe Caicedo is a technical, finesse, short-passing type of player. The English hate that! Even though Caicedo looks big and tall, I haven't seen him demonstrate much in the air. When Sven bought him, he must have looked at him and assumed he would be perfect for the English aerial game, but in reality he is a dribbler who likes to keep the ball on the ground and link up with his teammates.

Guys, we gotta relax about Caicedo. He's 19, I repeat, he's 19 years old. I can't really expect him to start and play the full 90 on the world's top teams yet. He's an amazing talent and will get his chance soon enough.

The whole Man City thing has been a huge mistake, I mean he wasn't a big goalscorer for Basel either, like I've said before, he's a withdrawn forward, not a striker. The wrong expectations were there.

I remember when El Tin was young and missed some easy goals for Barcelona and Ecuador, I hated him and thought he should never play again, but he matured and we all know what happened then.

the reason i said what i said.. was becuase theres too much pressure on him now.. especially from us.. a bad outcome might ruin his morale permanantly..

My first I told you so.

Didn't I say that Caicedo needs to play more? He scored the first goal.

OH MY GOD - this is definitely a first - Ecuadorian player scores on Ecuadorian keeper in a UEFA Cup Match! Could you have imagined this just a few years ago???

    GOAL Everton 2-2 Standard Liege
Everton debutant Segundo Castillo unleashes a 25-yard thunderbolt which Liege keeper Rorys Aragon Espinoza gets a hand to but cannot stop going in. It's 2-2 and a great game.

wow! golazo de Castillo!!! 30 yards out....

i'm convinced that more Ecua players should be playing in Europe :)

Everton has a great team player in Castillo.
He's dynamic and gets everyone on his team involved in the game.
