First off, Fox Soccer Report. Those guys are always good to us. Their coverage of MLS in general is very balanced---I love that Derek Taylor--the man is hilarious! NBC11 Sports Sunday (Raj Mathay). He reported the results and there was a segment on it. I remembered the camera man taking footage of the Casbah/Ultra during the match so I was not surprised to see some of those on the segment. Funny thing was, the segment was mostly about David Beckham etc. etc., the reporter asked a group of kids what they thought about him and they all chorused something along the lines of "awesome!". Then towards the end, the reporter asked a boy of about 7 or 8 years wearing a black SJ hat what he thought of Beckham and with full authority he said, "I like him". Follow-up question, "are you cheering for him?". To which he said with a bit of a smirk (and I swear to gawd his look to the reporter was somewhat "are you kidding me"? written all over it), "No, I cheer for the Earthquakes!". How sweet is that? CBS 5 They also covered it. Commented on how animated John Shrader was (they probably just know him as the Sharks announcer or something). KTVU Channel 2 Another good coverage I thought. Not sure about the other channels. Did KRON do something? I didn't catch it.
"Schu" covered it on Channel 7, with his usual smirking, snarky manner. Mostly mentioned Beckham and showed two clips - First, Donovan's goal and then Cochrane's. Just like most of what "The Schu" does, there was little insight, interest, or personality. That guy really is a retard.
Wife said the same thing. Showed mostly LA highlights... Talk about useless. Sucked as a football player. He is by far the worst sports guy in the Bay Area. Funny, the rest of Ch 7 is pretty good.
If they want to improve their ratings, they should have Larry Beil kick Schu's ass on-air. I generally like Ch 7, but one thing disturbs me: The insidious influence of the (evil) Disney Corporation. Ever since they took over, I have noticed more and more promos for Disney enterprises being camouflaged as news stories. Same goes for the ABC network news. And don't get me started on McCain's best buds Charlie Gibson and Judas Stephanopolous...
KRON did have a short piece on the Quakes. Nothing fancy just a very straight forward summary of the goals. I was surprised how much coverage we got from the local networks. Maybe it was due to Becks being the Bay Area but it was nice to see. I'm especially shocked that KTVU even covered it, wish I didn't miss it. Usually they don't even acknowledge that the team exists. Hopefully they'll cover it in tonight's report.
He's an ex-pointy ball player, what do you expect? Played in the sun and without his helmet too often.
