Re: iPhone roll call: who's buying one on July 11? Same thing with Verizon. I had a bad experience (not listed below) with AT&T, went to Verizon and haven't looked back. 1) I know a lot of people on Verizon, so with their "in" calling, I don't really use a whole lot of minutes, or texts. 2) Their "GSM buzz" is something that I haven't missed with Verizon, but I just now found a few solutions which may or may not work. iPhone + Red Bull can http://www.applegazette.com/on-the-web/want-to-stop-iphone-speaker-buzz-grab-a-red-bull/ Electrostatic shielding bag: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1132063/stop_that_buzzing_from_speakers_because_of_your_cell_phone/
Re: iPhone roll call: who's buying one on July 11? yes, which is why did what I said I did. speed up the process on the 11th.
Re: iPhone roll call: who's buying one on July 11? i'm the opposite ... if it was on Tmobile, i wouldn't get it. coverage too sparse in my area. yeah, I live in the Bay Area, tech capital ... but there's a lot of dead spots around here. like at my work and my house -- and since its my only phone that's a biggie. but i have friends who swear by Tmobile, even though they can't use it in many places that I could use my verizon. which is interesting (well, not really ... but kind of) because around the time of the WWDC where they announced the iphone 3G they released a customer satisfaction survey for cell phone companies and tmobile was third behind At&T and verizon. Tmobile customers seem to be pretty loyal.
Re: iPhone roll call: who's buying one on July 11? No for me but I will be getting a 'proper' smartphone when my current contract expires.
Re: iPhone roll call: who's buying one on July 11? What do "proper" smartphones do that iphone doesn't?
It's already begun: iPhone 3G line starting in New York City AppleInsider By Aidan Malley Published: 04:45 PM EST "Although it's not the first release and ample supply is expected, a queue has reportedly begun outside of Apple's Fifth Avenue retail store to buy iPhone 3G a full week before its release. As of mid-afternoon on Friday, a ten-person line has been spotted by Gear Diary along the marble border that surrounds the retail store above ground."
From the article: The names of those first in line are unknown, though unlike the queue at the same store last year, the front isn't headed up by well-known line waiter Greg Packer, who regularly queues up early to be the first in line for many high-profile events. I wonder how much of his vacation time is spent by waiting in lines. The article makes it seem like he does it a lot.
Re: iPhone roll call: who's buying one on July 11? Per the NYTImes review: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/09/technology/personaltech/09pogue.html?_r=1&oref=slogin It looks cooler, and is faster, but I'm not sure it warrants my upgrading. I would like the better speaker phone and 3G, but as David Pogue says, the big upgrade is coming from the Iphone store, which I can access with 1.0.
Anyone else upgrade to the 2.0 software yet? I took the plunge and it wasn't bad. There are a ton of cool apps out there. I've got about 7 I dowloaded already, using Twitterific ana AIM now.... all on the iPhone that is.
If you know how to find it it did. 2.0 isn't officially out yet either, but it you know where to look it is... **cough**cough** You'll need iTunes 7.7, which is available in Software Update
I am awaiting the iPod Touch Version 2.0 software to be posted by Apple for my iPod Touch; this morning a new version of iTunes (7.7) was released. Once that v. 2.0 is posted users with an iPod Touch can download the new apps (500 posted this am) on iTunes. I am hearing conflicting reports on new 3G iPhones having issues--several tech blog postings (it may be better to wait a bit so Apple works the kinks out here)... I planned to get one today but will wait 'til next week....
I was all set to get an iPhone but since I'm an existing AT&T customer who is not due an upgrade I have to pay more then $199. Thanks AT&T for showing some loyalty to existing customers who've been with you for like 7+ years
Re: iPhone roll call: who's buying one on July 11? Can you link me to the "proper smartphone" app store? I want to compare what's available.
Never mind - I get it now. I'm probably going to wait for the official release just to be chicken about it.
Just got my Apple Iphone 3g 16g Black from an AT&T store. It's funny but I passed by an Apple store and the queue was about 500 people. So I left because I wasn't waiting in that line(and to top it off..their computers were down!) Then I drove to the AT&T store across the street and there were only 22 people there. I bought my Iphone in 30 minutes instead of waiting for like 5 hours in line. It just sucks that Itunes is down so I can't setup my iphone at this moment.
Apple and AT&T Stores Having Difficulty Activating iPhones (UPDATE: It's the iPocalypse) http://gizmodo.com/5024187/apple-an...-activating-iphones-update-its-the-ipocalypse This does not look good. Apparently people at home can't even upgrade to firmware 2.0 and the problem is afflicting iTunes on an international scale. I sense that Apple and Microsoft are becoming one company with shared quality and performance benchmarks.... To be perfectly frank, as AppleRumors says..............
I figured there would probably be too many people trying to get one today, so I'll wait until Monday. Hopefully they'll still have some.
Via iTunes, I updated the software on my original iPhone to version 2.0. The new features are cool especially when coupled with the MobileMe service. I'll wait on getting the 3G until the buzz (and lines) dies down. I've had an iPhone for over a year now and I really couldn't part with it. My entire life is on this phone.
