Yes! I've actually wanted to check out this place for a while and the Quakes V's Chivas match is a great excuse to do it now. I've checked out their website (which needs some work) and it looks like they've plenty of beers on tap, just reading the dinner menu makes me want to eat! Some tasty eats on there. Although they probably should do a "Goat" Curry in honor of this match

I believe that the Englander San Leandro is the 1906 Ultras' official viewing party.

However, the Pacific Coast Brewing in Oakland is the official viewing party from the FO. Here's the e-mail we got about it (and we are closer to this place than the Englander):

7/5 Viewing Party vs. Chivas USA at Pacific Coast Brewing Co.
On Saturday, July 5th, join other Quakes fans and staff at Pacific Coast Brewing in Oakland to watch the team as they travel south to take on Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center. Not only will you be able to watch the game and cheer on your Quakes, but you will also be able to enjoy a selection of 24 beers on tap while you take advantage of the drink specials offered.

It would good for everyone if we're all at the same place really. There's no reason we can't all be in the official location designated by the FO. This will also avoid any confusion.

I also understand that sometimes it's not convenient to go to a particular location so it neccesitates another location for fans to go so, that's an exception. But San Leandro and Oakland locations? Doesn't make sense. This could have been in one location.

However, I also notice that the advertisement of these official parties have been tucked in a little corner of an e-mail so I will talk to the FO today and ask them to put the viewing party information everywhere: BigSoccer Boards and have the Mods sticky it until the actual event, and have an e-mail blast with the information highlighted.

I don't disagree that a single viewing party might have "made sense." However, at the time the 1906 Ultras set their viewing party, the "official" front office viewing party location had not been announced.

By the way, I drove from San Jose to SF to the Kezar Pub for the DC United match a couple weeks back when 1906 Ultras piggybacked its viewing party on that of the front office. Ultras were the only Quakes fans there.

So, my message to Quakes fans for every away match is: Who cares where you watch the match, as long as it's not in the effective secrecy of your own living room. Pick your pub, wear your gear, and get out and represent.

This is really F**ck up...It is true the Englander is the 1906Ultras spot, but really... to split the fan base in two is far from good, specially coming from the FO.

The 1906Ultras party is not exclusive for the Ultras... the other way around, the invation was for all the Quakes fans out there.

I guess there is more to be workout bet. FO and Supporters Groups.

Oh! BTW ,I didn't get the email from the FO regarding this viewing party.

    Sad...very sad :(

Don, thanks for clarifying. This explains the two locations. What we're going to do is to go to Pacific Coast Brewing as planned (IrishQuake and myself) and report back to you guys. See how many fans make it there. I also want to take the opportunity to talk to a live person from the FO and follow-up with e-mail and discuss these issues. Viewing parties should always be coordinated with the supporters group. I mean, c'mon, I'd like to be in the company of fellow fans!

And yes, this doesn't mean other fans can't have viewing parties of their own someplace else.

We have nothing to do with nor do we coordinate our viewing parties with the FO. All are welcome to attend the 1906 Ultras party at the Englander but where ever you go it is always best to gather with other Quakes fans and enjoy the game. That said I encourage all to come to a 1906 viewing party and check it out at some point in the season, we have a good time.

If the Supporters Group do not coordinate with the FO, then the bigger issue would be that the FO should just do a better job at advertising the viewing party they organize---a point that I will make sure to present today.

This will ensure that a decent number of fans show up in the viewing party they organize and therefore, good for the organization because it shows the team has a fan base.

I don't want this to be a debate between all of us fans. I just feel that I have to say something to the FO so that we maximize our presence in all viewing parties wherever they may be.

    Agreed.

I just happened to call Pacific Coast Brewing Co to ask if they were going to show the Columbus v Chicago match (got a few fantasy players to watch!) and the guy I spoke to (the head cook) was unaware of the the Crew-Fire match or the Quakes' match. He did say it was first-come, first-served when it came to the televisions. So, I am going to risk it and show up around 5:00 for the first match.

I personally think having more than one location, even if they are as close as San Leandro and Oakland, is a good thing. It means more exposure out there and the potential to attract more fans. I was at Pyramid Brewery last week and had the bartender put on the Quake's game. Turns out I was not the only one interested in the match.

There is one more reason to be at San Leandro. ;)

They will give us a whole room with many tables and a very large screen.

BTW a walkable distance from the San Leandro BART station.

So...I'll see you all there !

Blue, let me know if you made it to the Pacific Coast. Because we didn't.

We had gone to the City early afternoon today hoping to get back on the ferry around 5:10 p.m. enough time to get our Quakes gear and drive to Oaktown. Well, the ferry was about 2 hours late! We didn't get home until 8 p.m.! So, we decided to just watch it at home. :(

While we were waiting in the ferry building, we called the Pacific Coast twice to check if they are showing the match and if there are fans over there. You are correct, no one seems to know about the viewing party. They said that they could put the TV on where the channel is but it is first come first served.

Aquari, bummer about the ferry. Swimming would have been faster!

At the last minute, I decided to skip Pacific Coast Brewing and head to the Englander. I am glad I did! There were about 15-20 fellow fans there. One side of place had all of its televisions (about half a dozen plus an AWFUL projection screen) tuned to the match. The downside was that there was no audio. The flipside was the nearly overwhelming menu (tandoori chicken quesadilla, anyone?) and the decent beer selection. The atmosphere was casual and people mingled a bit and it was good to see some Ultras. Too bad the team could not hold on to a draw.

The missus and I will definitely go back.

We will definitely go to the next time.

I will e-mail FO about the whole official viewing parties. If it's not working, why have it at all?

    Bummer that we lost!

We spoke to the owner at the Englander after the game and told him that we would becoming back for road games and would like the Englander to be our "official" viewing location. He said he will pencil us in for that room so we can get it. I hope to see a lot of Quakes fans joining the Ultras in San Leandro. Everyone is welcome.

OMG, that was the upside to silence, not having to listen to that tool speak.
