With apologies to Stockport County fans, I just wanted to write some good luck wishes to Rochdale for their League 2 playoff final this weekend.

Rochdale have been in the basement for decades - certainly as long as I can remember - and I just think it would be so nice for them and their dedicated fans to FINALLY get a promotion after so many hard, long, difficult years - and in their centenary year too. Even if they only last a year in League 1, it would still be an achievement for what is probably the most unfashionable professional club in the English league system.

    Good luck Dale!

Just the one promotion in their history, back in 1969. They've been back in Division Four since 1974. I really hope they go up today, if ever a set of supporters deserve some success, it's them.

Sadly not this year though. They seemed to freeze on the day and could barely string a pass together all afternoon. I wanted them to win, but I'd concede on the day Stockport looked far better.

I have to confess it is all my fault too. I've been to five play-off finals, and the team whose end I've been in has lost every one.

I was really rooting for the Dale and its too bad they lost. Hill seems like a good manager so hopefully next year they can get one of the automatic promotion spots.

I have a friend who is a huge Dale supporter and he arranged a tour of Spotland for me a few years ago. It was great experience and they treated me top class. I've been to huge stadiums here in the states and to Old Trafford and Emirates. However, Spotland and other grounds like it are English Football! Come on DALE!

Aren't you the lucky one, after 30 years supporting the Dale, hopefully my ambition will come to fruition. Playoff final was a disappointment, maybe we weren't quite ready. Started well this season, hope we can keep it going.

Actually just sorted out a trip to Spotland in early March. Might be top of the League by then. :)

Just wanted to resurrect this thread again, and offer the same sentiments: good luck Rochdale, I hope your playoff run is successful this year!

Watched the first leg today on Setanta. Dale needs to play a lot better to get a result on Sunday. I knew Dale went through a bit of a rough patch the last couple of months of the season. However, I didnt realize they had only won 3 of their last 13 matches until the commentator mentioned that point. Should be a good second leg!

pah! that's nothing. Reading are in the play-offs without a home win in 4 months (taking just 3 points) - the worst home run in the club's entire history.

I do hope Rochdale make it though. I think everyone, excpet the teams they are playing, hopes Rochdale make it.

If they do get to the final, and you go to the game - DON'T SIT IN ROCHDALE'S SECTION!

Third year in a row I'm resurrecting this thread... here we go again! 9 points clear at the top of D2 and with a genuine chance of not only ending their 36-year stay in the basement, but actually going up as Champions!

I have always had a soft spot for the 'Dale, surely the most unfashionable side in the League. Can they do it? I hope so!

Would be pleased for them if they went up. Not sure they're financially big enough to retain their best players if they do, or their manager, but the fans deserve it. I live only about ten miles east (some would say just about far enough) from the town, so sometimes I drive over to watch their home games if Leeds are away, and although it's an absolute dump of a town, the fans are decent folk and it's a decent ground with a reasonable atmosphere.

Promoted today after a 1-0 victory over Northampton. Must be amazing for their fans who've been supporting them for years to finally see the club promoted.

Finally!! Congrats to the mighty Dale! Went to Spotland for the first time last season and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Hope they can stay in League 1 but I have my doubts. Hill has done an amazing job there.

I've been supporting them for about 10 years, even though I live in the US and have never seen them play. Strange, isn't it?

If they continue this form and can maintain their top half of the table position, it would be easily the best season in the club's recent history. I'm definitely pulling for them.

Another win yesterday and top half of the table! Don't know if anyone noticed but their former keeper Matthew Gilks is having quite a start to the season with Blackpool FC. Up the Dale!!

Join the club, Tony, I've been following the Dale for the best part of 30 years, and never seen them play apart from the occassional snippet on the Football Championship highlights show, mainly because I live in Australia.
1-0 over Plymouth, up to 9th.

The playoffs are definitely in reach. It would absolutely astonishing if, after so many years of languishing in the basement, they achieved two promotions in two years - Rochdale in the Championship! :D

Seeing as how Wednesday have absolutely no chance of doing anything this year, I really hope Rochdale (or Orient) go up instead.

Interested to see how Rochdale do after Hill's departure. Especially if Wiseman and O'Grady move on too.

I agree. It will be very interesting to see how the Dale do without Hill around this season. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they did last season. I hope they can stay up!
