Yo LDU4ever you lucky son of a gun I wish i could have been at the game
I'm sky high :D I knew Liga was the better team for all the people that said that liga was going to win b/c of the altitude F off in the first half we kicked ass!

I hope Vizueta was watching the game I wonder if he still thinks W. Ayovi is better then Guerron what a dumn ass if he would have started Bolaneos and Guerron against Colombia we would have won that game.

I would have liked to see Salas or E. Vaca come in the game but I understand Bauza protecting the two goal lead. I'm confident that In Brazil we can get a goal or two in counter attacks b/c Flu will throw everything at us.

great game.. and to think i was going to the store to go buy some chips during the first 5 minutes.. cevallos didnt play to his level today something tells me he could have stopped both of those shots.. anyways bolanhos guerron and urrutia look like they have bounced back from those sour results in the wcq. i wish that liga would have played with the same intensity the second half as they did the first...

and for the surprise of the night

guerron is learning how to pass!!!!

if vizueta had started an exhausted guerron the end result would indeed had been different...it was a tactical switch...give the guy some credit

you cant expect one player to play his heart out in one match and expect the same player 4 days later to be in the same match fitness, especially against a side that strategicaly switched 7 fresh 22 year olds against ecuador

You are comparing apples and oranges. Everybody knows that many excellent Brazilian players never get a chance to play on the national team because there are simply not enough spots.

On the other hand, you bring up a good point as to why LDU has gotten to this level. All these national team players - Guerron, Bolan~os, Urrutia, Campos, Ambrossi, and Vera from Paraguay - established their careers with LDU. Only Cevallos and Tin Delgado were longtime national team guys before coming to LDU. What this tells you is that LDU is doing an extraordinary job of identifying talent and developing players into top professionals. For several years now we have been seeing the results of a top-notch system, as Liga has been consistently on top of the Ecuadorian league as well as a solid performer at the continental level.

You are right, and it's too bad Guerron will not be around if we go to Japan (fingers crossed), but Cristiano Ronaldo may also not be with ManU so that is about even (I'm being totally serious).

In any case, this is pretty much the same case with most teams that win Copa Libertadores, their 1-2 star players get bought and they are in the middle of rebuilding when they play in Japan. That's why the European champion has dominated for the past 15-20 years.

For the long-term, as mentioned before I think LDU has shown they are doing the right things as an organization and as an institution, which is a strong foundation on which to rebuild even if the players get sold.

    Thoughts:

    1. Although it was a great result, I'm really ticked about losing the 3-goal difference, which would basically have allowed us to go to Brazil and kick the ball around for 90 minutes and not do anything stupid. The 2-goal difference will require us to be very concentrated and not make any mistakes, because 1 goal from them and there will be no more breathing room.

    2. It is interesting that the 3-week break seems to have favored us more than them. Even though most of our key players had to go and play difficult WC qualifying matches during that time. I think that experience helped the players deal with the pressure better, as Liga was easily the more relaxed and fluid team in the 1st half. Whereas Flu players have just been sitting at home thinking about this match, our guys had other life-or-death matches to deal with.

    3. There are no more questions or arguments to be made about Guerron. The man is lightning fast and his speedy footwork make him a total nightmare for defenders. At 23 years, he is a gem, and as his game matures he will improve his decision-making.

    4. Ditto for Bolan~os. The Mexican narrator, although usually wrong, made a few good comments including the fact that Bolan~os is a bit more regular and consistent than Guerron, whereas Guerron is more dynamic but can go on and off. Bolan~os was slithering like a snake down the left side all night, his moves remind me of De La Cruz in his prime. I will be stunned if this guy isn't also in Europe next year.

    5. Manso was brilliant, Urrutia was genius, I feel he is the most complete Ecuadorian player today, Vizuete take note. I felt Ambrossi was a bit sloppy although he still gets himself into dangerous positions which opens up space for others.

    6. Was the field wet yesterday?? Bieler was slipping all over the place, and Flu's second goal was the result of Araujo slipping and letting Thiago alone to head the ball in.

    7. Overall, I think we answered the critics who said we had only gotten to the final by tie scores and the away goals rule. I think this team does what it needs to do to win - yesterday we needed to win by at least a couple of goals and we did that. Hopefully this match is viewed across the world so people can see the brand of attractive, exciting, and skillful soccer played by LDU and in Ecuador. No matter what happens next week, this team has made us all proud.

    you cannot be serious!

it is a game and anything can happen BUT WHERE LDU HAS 5 NATIONAL TEAM PLAYERS, MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE OVER 25 NATIONAL TEAM PLAYERS

they can sell cristiano ronaldo and buy five guerrons by the time japan rolls around

dont get too confident, a two gol lead is not unsurmountable

In terms of the impact they have on their team, it's very similar. They also have similar playing styles in the way they attack and tend to go right at the defense. This is why I feel the loss for both teams is similar.

Great analysis, agree 100%. And yes the field was a bit wet. It rained pretty steadily for 45 minutes or so an hour before game time and it poured most of the day before (Tuesday), so the field was just slick enough to cause some players to slip. Our seats were on the side of the field where our 4 goals were scored (unforgettable) and also where Araujo slipped.

All in all, very good result. We could have sealed it with another goal or two, but if the boys play their game in Rio, the Copa is ours.

Loco there are great ballers from small ecua clubs(Espoli,Azogues,Macara, etc, etc),but it has always been that in our corrupt and regionalism "great" country of ours hasta en el futbol margina the rest of the country. The NT has always been made up of ballers teams de Quito and GYE,once in a blue you'll see ONE baller from el Cuencita or Olmedo.
La politica esta metida in nuestro futbol,,,haven't you notice?
Me da pena que la mayoria del mundo, thinks Ecuador is only Quito and GYE,,hasta las islas Galapagos hardly gets props,,,,Que chucha!

Great result for Liga,,but it could have been better. That gol was mighty early, kinda bad cause it but Liga at ease for a minute and let Flu get ball control for a few minutes, which let them score.Tenia que apovechar la zaga del Flu,I did say que hace agua.Buaza subbed el Tin too late,he should have gave him extra minutes and for sure he would have scored one. Some of you guys say Manso and Vera were great, but actually saw them kinda of nervous, ahuevados,,and I know they play better than that. And if Guerron would have not a locarse and just tocar suave el balon, instead of sending those passes al aeroperto Mariscal Sucre,it could have been 6.El 2-0 es resultado mas tracionero del futbol,Liga has to go to el Maracana a jugar del tu a tu,if they go on the defense van a pagar.

well.....regardless of your logic, and the odds, i will still root for ldu against manu

for now, perhaps, it is more important to analyze how to stop the brasilian side from scoring 3 gols in la maracana....which is not an easy thing to do no matter who you are and what players are on your squad

    a question to generate discusion:

Does LDU always play with 3 in the back or does the coach of LDU change this according to its rivals and odds?????

Flu also played with 3 in defense against LDU which is excatly how they played against boca in argentina but in brasil Flu switched to 4 in the defense....any thoughts???

my opinion, since in all respects is neutral, is that fluminese thought that LDU would want to score as much as possible and given LDU's players and home advantage i think they entered with the mentality of "how to loose, but to loose by the smallest margen possible so that in La Maracana..."

hence, my thoughts are that they also fielded an attack oriented squad to counterbalance LDU's all out attack, which if this is what they did, then they were successful.

como el dicho viejo: los que golean golea

This is ridiculous comment and I wanted to get to it for the longest but I ran into a busy week.

Where do you think our National players are picked from? Where does any country pick their National players from?

Urrutia played for LDU before he played for out NT.

Guerron played for LDU before he played for the NT.

Bolanos Played for Ldu before he was picked for the NT.

You get the picture? They proved themselves worthy at LDU so that they could be recognized. That is the objective of every player..to be the best.

You forget, we sent home 4 Argentinian Teams, some in which had NT players themselves. Are you seriously trying to raise an argument that this game isn't fair.

Careful kid, you are beginning to upset me. Think about what you are saying before you post.

Trying to take away from LDU by calling it not fair can only come from one source...Envy.

    stop being so insecure

the only thing i said was that flu has no one of quality that will make it on the national team of brasil or on any national team

    which, makes the affair un-even

    read and understand before replying

ps. envy?????, read the posts, i have been rooting for liga before they made to the final

If Flu is full of such low-quality players, then how did they make it to the final of the copa libertadores? How did they beat teams like Sao Paolo and Boca Juniors? Seriously, think before you comment.

I wasn't born yesterday, I know exactly what you are doing and so do the rest of the Ecua-members. It's called passive aggression. Euphemisms can be poetry if you know how to use them and if you don't, you basically look desperate.

Insecure? I saying it the way it is. It is not just me who sees this.

I've read everything you wrote and I still stand on what I say.

What part of my post did you not understand?

What part of your post did you think I did not read?

Are you not taking away from LDU's Victory by saying that we have 5 NT players and Flu has none. Are you not taking away from LDU's victory by saying that the game isn't Fair?

    I clearly stated the obvious.

Where do countries pick their NT players from? Guess what? They pick their players from Leagues same way Our NT picked players. It just so happens that Liga got strong players that work together well.
It just so happens that the better teams made it to the finals.

We all know what you are doing so don't play yourself. There are people out there who believe their own lies. For the sake of you own personal growth, I hope you are not one of them.

Envy is the source of passive aggression.

i have no need for any of this, it is ridiculous...i only stated facts about two teams...call it what you want, it does not take anything away from the liga victory but i am not going to sit here and simply not state what i consider an obvious observation simply bc you think it is "passive aggressive"....plus i was trying to start up a conversation which no one seems be willing to do

i also asked about the 3 man defense and if there is any news as to wether liga will play 3 in the back in la maracana.....did this result in conversation , no?

i am not here to accuse you of anything like "believing your own lies"....what lies?

    straight up:
    1. i want la liga to win
    2. la liga has a stronger squad (5+ nt players)
    3. this is a possible explanation as to why they won their first match so convincingly

an example of believing your own lie would be to claim that at least half of the flu squad is of nt quality

there is no reason why to claim that "la liga's win is of no surprise given their squad" is some sort of passive aggressive claim, it is an observation which also happens to be true

you make it seem like there is something wrong with making this observation, more power to you

please, if you dont want to talk about the more important information of what kind of defense la liga will produce in brasil, then i have nothing more to discuss with you

A column by an Argentino where he lauds Liga and just pummels Flu.

    http://www.laprensagrafica.com/accion/1089975.asp

my nephew 10 year old ecuadog (newest Liga fan) has been following all the games on TV with me...
Liga has really influenced his passion for the game..
This past weekend in his second season playing AYSO
he played the best defensive game of his life. he has stepped up his game and not one ball got passed him.
His team won 5 - 0 ;) His role model is el Pato Urutia.

i am not making anymore comments about flu players!

i have my reason for thinking the way i do, if you do not agree then that is that. i am not interested in convincing anyone.

as for boca-flu, did you watch the boca flu match?

they played couterattack the whole match and boca stupidly fell for it playing an all out attack game....with 2 away gols in hand for the game in la maracana, flu needed only to make sure that they tie by one gol or win, which they did, beating boca 3-1 using their desparation against them....

what was strange about the match against ldu, was that flu also came out with an attack team

this is either bc of the following:

    1 they underestimated ldu
    2. they thought that they wanted to take advantage of the spaces left open by ldu, knowing that ldu would go on the attack and score as they get scored

given that they played ldu in the first stage i am thinking that No. 1 could be discarded

therefore, my impression is that flu will try to score first in brasil and use the momentum to get the 2nd gol, which is almost the same game plan their coach used against boca

if i were the dt of ldu i would place a more well rounded team (four defenders, for one), definately not go to defend but also not attack as much as they did in quito, which is just as suicidal
