Yeah ,we're going too, And I agree all of us. And some more, there are more US supporters then just you guys and us here in NYC. Many more, its time to start getting numbers out to these games. Sunday was a great showing , lets grow off that. Multiple buses
Hmmm.... can you go into a bit more detail? Are you saying other MLS based supporters groups don't rally as much together as a unit when it comes to the USMNT? Curious to hear your opinion on this.
It depends though. A lot of us, especially for a weekend game, would love to tailgate for several hours at the stadium prior to a US game, so we'd have to see what kind of plan/idea Nevada's has.
Woodsy we will talk to him but we know he has been up for anything - he was willing to run a bus to GS at noon if we wanted him to! We will talk to him!
This is probably one of the best bigsoccer posts I have read (in my short time registered to these forums). You said it all man!
Not at all. It's not a knock on any of the other cities' groups whatsoever. I've been to games in New England, Columbus, and DC/Richmond, and they've all done a great job (aside from the token DCU morons doing club chants, but that's not the fault of the SE/BB leadership). Just that in terms of organization (I believe they're responsible for all but 1 of the 4-5 big flags we've had over the years), "aguante" (I don't know what it means either but can kinda tell from the context it's been used in this thread), etc., the ESC is the model US supporters group. And again, to avoid this turning into a club pissing match, I'm just talking about national team games. I have no idea about MLS games as I've only been to been to one Metros/NYRB game and that was about 8-9 years ago.
Yeah, I was thinking it meant something along the lines of "passion"...close enough in this context. Awesome word, wish we had an equivalent in English.
yes it has a connotation of passion attached to it as well. And I agree about not having an equivalent. Wish we did.
I think pregame parkinglot prep could have been better. Some of us showed up many hours early and were visiting different groups throughout the day. I think that if a few of the main organizers (the heads of each of the five families) walked around and greeted anyone and everyone that was wearing red, we could explain: -You are expected to sing your ass off for 90 minutes. thats what we expect of you. If you still insist on sitting on your hands, take it to the back half of section 101. That way you will be able to do your thing, and we can have our section to do our thing.
The Barra Brava, officially, does not put its organizing power toward the U.S. national team, so that's not going happen.
Ah, my mistake. I don't know why. I'm a member, and I've just seen it posted on the Barra Brava thread by one of the group's leaders before.
I know that certain founders were Bolivian, would that be the reason for it? Are the members of the Barra that are American encouraged NOT to support the US Nats?
cos a lot of us are foreigners a lot of Americans in Barra follow US Nats, but generally I'd say group is more club over country, that's why we had more people in Chicago over weekend for Chi-DC than up in NJ. And ones that went I'd say we had equal sides on US and Argentina side. National team support is getting weaker IMO, just look at Euro, only ones that came with ultras groups at any strength are Croatians and all our groups are generally club over country (meaning they'd go to club match over country, but scheduling issues like that are only matter in USA). Last WC same thing, few countries had groups there and rest was tourists chanting country name. We'll show up if US is in RFK cos its our turf, but we don't have organized trips ESPECIALLY when DC is playing at same time. Hope that helps.
I can understand if many are foreigners, but I don't think that support for country is dying. I personally don't equate ultras with being the only ones that can and will support country. This past sunday, I saw many non ultra argentines lending support. Actually I think that I can say without error that all support given by Argentines were of the non ultra kind. Those guys were in Buenos Aires watching River take the championship. Anyhow the stadium was still rocking and fun.
Of all the clubs in MLS i have always said ESC and Barra Brava are about the closest to each other in style and diversity. BBB lays out a HUGE difference between us though...ESC is and always has been country over club mostly...and of course we sing louder and have better songs.
Regardless of what group people decide to join...there are two things I'd like to see more of. 1. A unified colour scheme. It's always fun to watch countries like Sweden or the Netherlands play, because their fans always wear the same colour. Look at the Sweden v Spain game...on right now. The Swede section is just a block of yellow...it looks pretty cool. I think Sam's Army set up the red colour scheme...I always wear red if I go to see the national team. Sam's Army and American Outlaws should push for a sea of red at every national team game. 2. Banners. I think a good example is Germany. Not only do they have a lot of German flags hanging in front of their section, they also have banners with names of cities on them. I would love to watch a USMNT game and see not only a bunch of US flags in front of our section...I think it'd be cool to see where everyone traveled from. I'd like to look up and see: St. Louis, Columbus, Philadelphia, San Diego, Chicago...and smaller cities, neighbourhoods, and boroughs from around the country. I know that I'll make a banner for my city for the next USMNT game I travel to. Just some thoughts.
From what I was reading, I heard that a few people had made some banners but the USSF wouldn't let them hang them up.
