At this point, there's no reason to buy before WWDC, which is June 9-13. If at that point you decide it's not worth it, they'll probably be dumping the older ones for cheap, either through Apple or on eBay.
Here's the latest rumors I can find .... June 9 has been mentioned several times as a launch date. It's a Monday. I've read 32GB many times. I also read this one blog (and an Apple store employee said he'd read the same thing) that said AT&T might subsidize the costs of the phone, like they do with every other phone they sell. the blog said it might mean you save $200 when you sign up with AT&T (as if you have a choice). anyway, take from those what you will.
I just read another blog that says the FCC hasn't granted approval yet and it may be delayed as a result .... until Steve Jobs pulls one out of his pocket, it'll be hard to know for sure. but good link .... is that a reliable blog/website?
now I've heard conflicting reports that the 3G will cost $699 or $499. I'm wondering if the higher price tag is floating around courtesy of Apple so when Jobs announces a lower price or AT&T subsidy, he looks like the hero. Apple is notorious for disinformation tactics. can't wait. But $699 .... I want on REAL bad, but I'm not sure if I want one THAT bad.
I think Apple's presentation is going on right now - we should know shortly what the new phone will be.
Yeah - I'm following there too - they're currently going through various apps developed by third parties such as ebay.
Seems doubtful. But as usual, the store is down during a big announcement. We're still waiting for news about the new iphone
Holy crap - new iphone is only $200. The iPhone 3G will be available July 11th in 22 countries. The maximum price around the world is $199 USD. Now showing an ad. 11:45 am $299 for the 16GB -- a white version of this size will be available too. 11:45 am Now on to the final challenge -- affordability. Started at $599 for an 8GB iPhone, now $399. The iPhone 3G 8GB will sell for... $199.
It's going to suck when every schmo on the street has the phone and there's no longer any cool cache'.
So I'm too lazy to look it up, but if I use Verizon can I get a new IPhone? And for the smartasses out there, if I get a new IPhone - will it work with Verizon?
Not quite the correct thread for this one, but if you got 4 iPhones could you cook popcorn like this? On a more serious note, if true, this is somewhat disconcerting.
Unlocking won't help either. Verizon uses a CDMA network, whereas AT&T's is GSM--it's like VHS and Beta. The only other major US carrier that uses GSM is T-Mobile.
I have heard that Apple initially approached Verizon, but Verizon declined the deal. Bad move, IMO. I'd probably consider an iPhone, if it wasn't for the GSM buzz. I'm usually around some sort of speakers, and speakers + GSM = bad news. Plus, a lot of people I frequently call are Verizon, so I can save a lot of airtime with the network calling.
