It's a crapshoot honestly. This weekends game was shown in SD, but other games have been in HD. No clue what's up with it.
I also have DirectKick, and everytime I check out the MSG HD feed I also get the sidebars. Except for DCU (only home games....only if HDNet doesn't have exclusive NATIONAL HD rights), I have yet to see any MLS team get the full HD treatment from their local RSN. That being said, I am extremely happy that both the regular and "HD" version of games is now available on the DirectKick package.
you and me both buddy, It's great having both the SD and HD. even if the HD feed is just upconverted SD it doesn't suffer from the overcompression that the SD channel does so it still looks much nicer. I can confirm I have seen 1 DCU game in HD on Direct Kick. I believe all the TFC home games shown on CBC in canada are also HD.
In that case, I hope DirectKick uses the CBC home feed instead of the Comcast Mid-Atlantic away feed for tonight's TFC/DCU game.
They don't do it for hockey so I wouldn't count on it for soccer. Every time a CBC game was on NHL Center Ice it was SD only.
All of the above is entirely false. Dish Network has space for 100+ HD channels without any new satellites. They have done the following things: - They activated the spot beams on their satellite at 61.5, allowing them to re-use each transponder over a dozen times. In 2008, they've already added roughly a couple hundred HD channels, mostly local HD network channels - On March 31st, Sky Angel ceased satellite operations on 61.5, freeing up 2 more transponders for Dish Network to use. - Dish Network has been moving International Customers to the 118.7 satellite launched last year, and eventually can replace the international channels on 61.5 with new national HD channels. - Yesterday, Dish Network started the process of converting the remaining MPEG2-HD channels on 110 to MPEG4-HD, which will allow adding another half dozen national HD channels. - Next Month, Dish Network will launch a new high-power satellite to 110, which will increase the bandwidth available on that central slot, allowing yet more National HD channels to be added there. Also, the Voom channels were not removed to make space, all 15 channels have continued to broadcast from both 129 and 61.5 - for about two weeks after the recent channel additions. They were removed because Voom stopped adding much new programming. What is true is that only someone in the industry could be so hopelessly misinformed.
Galaxy 18 just launched from Sea Launch this morning, turn around time for their launches is 6 to 8 weeks. Echostar 11 will be up sometime in July at the earliest, as long as there are no problems like there were with AMC 14.
the UEFA CL final looks great on ESPN2HD. although, there were a few blips in image at times in the first half.
Which companies have DirectKick in HD? I have dishnetwork and haven't noticed, but I'll have to take a look and see now.
Any particular reason why this became "unstickied" ?? It has answers to Frequently Asked Questions...
Please "sticky" this once again, so that we don't end up answering the same questions over and over. Thanks !
I posted this on a different thread but haven't gotten any feedback, so I figured I'd post it again in this thread since it seemed more appropriate: Why is it that standard definition channels such as FSC & GolTV look worse and have much less clarity on my brand new 46" Samsung LCD HDTV than they do when I watch them on my regular old Sony thirtysomething inch non-HDTV that has now been moved o the bedroom? It is extremely frustrating. I keep it in the 16:9 mode rather than widening the picture because then it smooshes everybody, but it still doesn't matter. It's hard to even make out #s on the back of jerseys! I don't get it. But the HD games I watch, such as the Olympics, are Phenomenal! Any thoughts?
any word if we'll be seeing any more of the ESPN2 champs league games this season in HD other than just the final!? (hoping but not optimistic!)
