man, i just cant help but think "what if"....my mind always wanders to the future

what if we make it to the finals? what if we win it all? what if we were campeones del mundo....this team has something special, and I really hope they can make all my what if's come true, I can say that if I saw that, part of my life would be complete at this young age...Liga has to be ready to play with all its huevos against San Lorenzo, and then buck up for either Santos or America-both of which have proven their strengths these past few days...we can take 'em all on!!!!!

I visualized Liga in the octavos bracket, then cuartos, next is
semifinal... I try not to visualize them in the final just yet because I don't want to jinx them....so, I'm visualizing Liga winning SL and in the semi-final bracket...

i'm making step by step "thought manifestations"
so Liga can win it all...

Fantastic result, in my view. The away goal is worth gold right now -- Liga could even tie 0-0 in Quito and advance. San Lorenzo will have to attack from the outset and leave spaces for Guerron and Bolanos. That is always a good combination, but add altura into the mix and I think it just may be a lethal one for the argentinos.

... Liga fans should celebrate this one (without counting their chickens ...). The team is making Ecuador proud.

I didn't think the away goal rule applied in Copa Libertadores like the UEFA Cup or Champion's league. I thought they went straight to penalties...am I wrong? When did this change?

    Some thoughts on tonights game:

We still have 90 minutes to play so we should be focused b/c San Lorenzo played without three of it's starters (they could be dangerous in Quito) remember that team never gives up I just don't want us to be so over confident. We need to continue to play as a team (memo to Guerron PASS THE BALL!) He is a great player but sometimes he wants to take on three defenders all by himeself and his teamates are all alone just watching.

Note the game against Deportivo Quito on Sunday we need to sit out all of our starters I don't care if we lose the three points. Our players have to rest for Thursday.

It was a pretty clean game... Not as dirty as last game against estudiantes... Guerron Manso ,Vera and Bolanos were awesome. .They gave San Lorenzo a lot of trouble...
I think the clincher was that everybody pitched in on defense... Playing in "la altura de Quito" will give us an advantage, but i agree we can't be to overly confident.
Guerron deservingly won man of the match... The guy has lightening speed and made the defenders nervous...Sure, he did a little ball hogging but that's what throws other teams off their game... Let's hope they can win it at home..

When Liga scored the first gol in the second game against Estudiantes, I remember a commentator saying that Estudiantes needed to score 4 goals. Three would've tied the aggregate but Liga had an away goal advantage.

If anything, you can find the rules here

    http://www.conmebol.com/competiciones_evento_partidos,1081,2008,S.html

just click on Reglamento (it's a pdf).

Yes, away goal rules apply. That's why Bolanos's goal at Estudiantes was so huge and why Bieler's tonight is also potentially a big difference maker. So,next Thursday, Liga starts the match ahead since the teams are tied in goals but Liga has an away goal and SL doesn't.

Agree with all of the comments about not getting carried away with confidence ... but Liga is currently in an enviable position.

Sorry, forgot to provide this link to what is a pretty good explanation of the rule. Also mentions that Copa Libertadores adopted the rule after 2005.

Guerron plays, he keeps getting better.

remember these words to all haters and lovers, Guerron willl be top player in South America.

Amen to that. I can't see any scenarios in which this guy stays in Ecuador after this season. His price tag must have skyrocketed with this tournament.

    A few observations:

-Liga is a superior team to San Lorenzo, in almost all lines. The only danger from San Lorenzo is D'Alessandro but he seems containable. In fact I think Estudiantes were a tougher opponent, and Veron much more dangerous than D'Alessandro.

-Liga's passing and running off the ball is amazing. They are extremely fluid in moving the ball upfield and they all have excellent ball handling which makes life very difficult for opponents.

-Joffre Guerron, Luis Bolanos, Paul Ambrossi, and Jose Cevallos have earned national team callups, joining Pato Urrutia who is a no-brainer.

-Renan Calle loses concentration as central defender, twice last night their forwards were left completely open at the top of the 18, which is inexcusable.

-If only Liga had the Tin Delgado and Franklin Salas from 3 years ago...if only.

-Liga's best and worst quality is that so many of their players are scoring threats, however at the same time there is not 1 player who they look to for scoring goals. This is good or bad depending on how you look at it, so far though it has worked well because opponents cannot depend on just shutting one player down.

unlike several teams, i can honestly say that every position in liga's team is rock solid. Vera, Manso, Bolanos, Guerron, Ambrossi, Araujo, Urrutia, Campos, Cevallos..all of these dudes are holding their own and are stars in their own right.

hopefully after this goal, Bieler can start settling into a scoring groove, his reaction to that goal was priceless, i think he might start scoring a lot more, but his misses are crucial mistakes right now, hopefully he can pick it up. Calle makes some worrysome mistakes, but also did a lot of good in the game, he needs to tighten up, but i have faith in him.

our bench is very deep, we have some fine players there as well, i can only hope that they will shine as well. i have always been proud of liga, in the good and bad, but what i'm feeling right now is indescribable, they are just doing something that we haven't seen in a long time (maybe ever?). this team is fantastic, suerte to all the liguistas, to the team, and to all the rest of the supporters, we're in for a helluva matchup on thursday...DALE LIGA! DALE ALBO!
