Mengao, River got jealous of you guys trying to take their title as gallinas, so they decided to try and up the ante :p

I mentioned above that it was the players fault. Aguilar should also take the blame for getting rid of Ramon Diaz and not bringing in D'Alessandro when he could. Look what happens now.

Still, I think it's inevitable to ignore Pezzotta's mistakes. Had they not happened, we wouldn't have even had to worry if the players left the game 30 minutes early. Of course you don't see it as a big deal, but if those mistakes happened during Boca-Cruzeiro you'd be outside CONMEBOL protesting right now.

Vasco and Botafogo fans trashed Flamengo today - as would've been the case by Flamengo fans had Vasco or Botafogo gone through what happened last night. In fact, a guy from Botafogo brass publicly lambasted Flamengo, and Eurico Miranda, who has long been the man w/ power at Vasco, said he wanted to bring Cabanas to Vasco. In other words, crosstown rivals celebrate such falls without mercy. THat's how it is in any city - Atletico Mineiro fans supported Boca last night, Corinthians fans supported Rio da Prata when they faced Palmeiras in 1999 and my SPFC in 2005, and so forth.

But there is ALWAYS, as is said, "payback." Such is soccer.

I wasn't able to see the games, but let's be realistic despite all those mistakes I'm pretty sure you guys didn't deserve the next round if your opponent could score 2 goals in the last 9 minutes with 9 men to advance. And it's San Lorenzo, el Club Atletico Sin Libertadores de America.

And Boca-Cruzeiro was just as bad because we got the stadium suspended until the finals because some teams decided to look ahead and send in a complaint in anticipation of probably facing us in the semis/finals and not wanting to play in La Bombonera (*cough* River *cough* Flamengo *cough*) and now they are rightfully off.

All that said, is there any doubt in anybody's mind that the Copa Libertadores is 10000000000 times more exciting than the Champions League??

Have you been watching this Libertadores at all? Boca has been on the end of a bunch of bad calls. In the end those mistakes wouldn't matter cause Boca is not going to lose a two goal lead with a two man advantage since they have something called huevos.

Muricy and Abel made me feel even worse and they went to admit that Fla had the talent to win it all, but other factors pretty much eliminated them:rolleyes: They also mentioned that what happened last night would have never happened if they were the coach..

That happens in ARgentina as well. I'm pretty happy River lost. Just like everyone celebrates when Boca gets eliminated etc etc

There was never any doubt by me, Copa Libertadores is way better then the Champion's League, the only Champion's League game i've seen this year was the Manchester vs Barcelona 2nd leg game because it was supposed to be a good game, but I was dissapointed with what I saw.

I know you're biased ASF, but as an unbiased observer I'll say this.

Boca's players showed a measure of emotional composure in Belo Horizonte even during the spells when Cruzeiro pressed (hit the goalpost, came close to scoring on at least 2 other chances).

Rio da Prata's players in contrast were very visibly rattled by the 2nd goal. Even after the 1st SL goal, when Rio was still up 1 goal and 2 men, they should have recollected, gone on with their game, and done what they could do press for a 3rd goal to put the game out of reach. But SL smelled blood, pressed, and Rio da Prata seemed to just take SL's pressure. In the end, SL's efforts succeeded with the corner kick which resulted in the 2nd goal.

Soccer needs emotional composure and the ability to take pressure, not just speed, crosses, dribbles, defense, tactics. That's why sometimes otherwise very good teams lose to inferior sides.

Yes, yes.. like that penalty that they didn't call in the first leg in favor Cruzeiro, or the offsides by Datolo in his goal. I don't want to go in to much detail about the refs with Boca, but today's reffing in the River-CASLA game was embarrasing (as was the players' ability to lose the match).

i wanted to tear SAF apart. Do you think any Latin American team would have so little balls to play all out defense in the first leg with Rooney, Tevez and C Ronaldo on the field?? what a disgrace

Well, as I told you last night... hang in there, your team is young and talented and it should contend for the 2008 Brasileirao. I hope to see Flamengo challenging for the 2009 Libertadores. :)

Well dude you do know those Europeans tend to be "pragmatic..." And say what you want about the wily old Scot, but the man's a winner...

I am one who thinks Manchester United will win Europe this year. It will make for a very interesting Club World Cup final, whoever the CONMEBOL winner is (we ain't gonna see a CONCACAF or whoever upset just yet... I for one wouldn't mind the return of the old format. Old school, yeah I know, but it was great).

True. As the announcers were saying, at the end of the River vs San Lorenzo match, it looked like nobody wanted to shoot. They were afraid of missing and then getting blamed for it.

I think even though the players change, the history of choking internationally that River has weights heavily on them, and it creates pressure on the players. On the other hand, Boca feeds from past successes and it gives the players confidence.

Knew that River vs. San Lorenzo was going to be memorable and it couldn't have been better scripted. Drama, fights, action......history. Former championship winning coach against his former team in one of the biggest stages makes for a Shakespearean performance.

Copa Libertadores packs a lot of balls, teams look like they are losing come back to win it all in unbelievable fashion. There is no denying that futbol is felt to an extreme on this side of the globe. Nothing but pure upsets, and two big ones in a span of 24 hours.

I would rate Cabanas and Falcao over Suazo as good as Suazo is hes not as consistant and dynamic as the other 2 and Palermo is a good player but a bit overrated.

In all honesty this is how I would rank em at the moment.....

    1. Cabanas
    2. Marioni
    3. Kleber Boas
    4. Falcao
    5. Suazo

If Adriano can get his sh*t together, he can easily top all of them, Marcelo Moreno is also up there.

Santos is up 1-0 now, Cucuta has 45 minutes to score 4 goals on Santos, i doubt that's going to happen. Fuk so i guess we'll be facing Santos in the Quarterfinals.

How is Palermo overrated? I don't think anyone sees him as the best forward or anything. He's rated just fine. People critique him alot but he continues scoring goals non stop. His league and international scoring record for Boca is incredible to say the least. 162 league goals in 222 league matches in Primera Division.

In any case Palacio definitely deserves to be on that list. Over the past 3 years he's been one of the best forwards in South America and he has the trophy case to show for it.

Exactly. Palermo is not overrated, but we have to consider he is turning 35 this year. It's a wonder he hasn't slowed down more.

Palacio I think is the best forward playing in the Americas. He doesn't just score, but he creates chances and he pressures the defenders when they have the ball. He's a complete player.

Sometimes he doesn't finish well, but often we have to look at the whole play. Like the goal he missed against Cruzeiro, he had run for about 30 meters at full speed, and then his shot was wide. Often what looks like a choke at the finish is due to the effort it took him to make the play. But he is a difference maker and he finishes well enough to score his share of goals. Sadly it looks like we're going to lose him to Europe after this season.
