Well, I was going to start a new thread, but I figure it would fit in here. Because it appears that Stoke City are coming back, back to the top flight that is. I know there are some Stoke fans here so what do you guys think about their promotion chances?
Still got about 11 matches remaining. Let's not count our ducklings too soon. But it's great to see the Potters leading the way for the first time in a very long time. The loss at Preston was a disappointment. Here's hoping for another winning streak to pad the lead. It would be neat to have them back in Cleveland for a friendly with CCS, but I doubt that much of anyone would catch the significance, including the media, except for Danny Coughlin, WCPN's Joe Wendel, and maybe Terry Pluto. Sort of like when Sunderland played in Vancouver a while back. No nostalgic hoopla.
3/8: 1-1 Draw with Burnley, thanks only to a PK @ 90:00. Good enough to climb back to second, but yipes stripes, the boys have gone quiet once that winning strek ended. Quack.
In the program for tonight's CCS game, there was a little blurb about the Stokers. They had a section about the history of pro soccer in Cleveland.
It will come down to the last match of the regular season. Squeaked one out on the road vs bottomfeeder Colchester 1-0. One point up on West Brom, 3 up on Hull. Thus, need at least a point vs visiting Leicester this coming Sunday in the Potteries to take the Championship and assure promotion. The visitors are currently one shy of relegation, which could make this less than a cakewalk. Undoubtedly, Stoke's biggest match in a long, long time. Nice that it's on the home pitch. Hoping and praying they don't start celebrating prematurely Saturday night. Recalling that Saturday night on the town in Vancouver back in '67... with the Eastern USA title theirs (Cleveland's) for the taking, just a point needed the following afternoon... (sigh). No, no, a different world here. Yipes Stripes. Up the Potters! Up indeed!

oye. I didn't reallize till now that you Greenies had Stoke supporters? Thats our Big sister club your talkin, and all the more reason for us to form a "stretegic alliance". I mean, hey us freshmen clubs got ta stick togethor right. As far as a Stokers Cup, lets do it. p.s You lads have to remmember though that us Chanticos, and I'm going to assume you Greenies as well, are mroe or less only half organized and that their is nothing official yet. If we ever whanna make these alliance/cup competition ideas reality we need to organize lads.
We don't have Stoke supporters, but back in the 1960's Stoke City had a team in Cleveland. They were the Cleveland Stokers and played two seasons (1967 and 1968). They even beat Pele's Santos in a friendly at Old Municipal Stadium. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Stokers
