Apparently, the kid is dejected from the monumental miss yesterday. Sh--t! I would be too if I were in his shoes! I'm sure the rest of the team were too (after all, that's not the only miss of the match---what, about 19 shots taken yesterday?).

But listen up, Kid. And listen well: It's your rookie year. Some of us fans are saying, you could have made that shot---rookie or not, this was supposed to be your time to separate yourself among your peers of rookies in the league. But guess what? Sh--t happens!

I hope you get some sleep and put this behind you. I'm sure you'll make those shots next time.

And if you didn't? Well, we'll cross the bridge when we get there.

Wasn't any worse than Donovan's miss today. Okay, maybe a little...

I think most people saw what he brought to the game other than the miss. With those tools, he'll be fine.

i agree. like i posted elsewhere, shea has shown he's got massive talent potential. we're giving you the benefit of a doubt, mr. salinas, and that's something not every club fan base does with a cock-up like this one.

yeah, that was bad, but oh well, it happens to the best of players, and to be honest, you weren't the only one who missed a goal opportunity yesterday.

as long as this doesn't become a regular occurrence (aka 3 times a season), you still have my/our support. we saw you play solidly the rest of the game, we know you're just starting out here and we've heard all the good buzz from your college playing years. the season is young and so are you, so use this time wisely to win us over.

for the love of god, please!!

I really, really hope that he actually does not need the love-in of the fans to help get him over what was a monumental, ludicrous, "geometrically impossible" (his words) miss. I'd like to see him livid, not sad. Get that mild psycho revenge feeling going and then ram three down someone's throat next game.

It's okay for now. If you were in the premier league, they might not be so nice. I've seen some horrible misses from some of the top players, however, they rise from it to prove themselves even more to their fans and managers. Don't let the miss eat at you, turn around and rise above it, it's what brings out the best of good players and I think you are one.

The message of this thread should go without saying . . .

. . . but I'll echo it: Shea Salinas, in the grand scheme of things your missed shot was no big deal. In all circumstances, MLS soccer is merely a game. Sh***t happens. But in the particular circumstances of yesterday, we Quakes fans were all happy to be there basking in the sun and at long last enjoying a regulation home match from OUR CLUB, of which you're a member in good standing. Yesterday, especially, a lost soccer match was not going to break our stride. And we saw that you and your mates played your hearts out in the heat and exemplified Quakes-brand soccer by never giving up. So, I think true-blue Quakes fans forgive you.

Let me put this in a little perspective -- not only for you, Shea, but for Quakes fans as well. I grew up in Buffalo, where pointyball fans endure regular defeats punctuated by four consecutive lost Super Bowls. One of those was lost when the Bills' kicker, Scott Norwood, barely missed a field goal in the dying seconds that would have won the title. THAT was an historic miss, and under the circumstances THAT was arguably cause for hanging one's head. But as the Bills' hall of fame coach Marv Levy observed, they won or lost as a team and, besides, regardless what others might say, the Super Bowl is NOT a must win event; World War II, THAT was must win. The next day thousands of Buffalo's fans crowded the main town square and applauded their LOSING squad and in particular Norwood, who was courageous enough to face and address his club's fans in person. THAT was the mark of a true champion and of true fans.

So I hope Quakes fans will treat this thread as a cyber-town-square and applaud Shea Salinas and his teammates for their valiant effort and that, Shea, you will be courageous enough to read our comments and take heart from them: Really, it's okay. Go get 'em next time.

Shea, I was very impressed by your level of play yesterday--your speed and finesse. I am excited to have you as a member of our team, and your presence gives me hope that we will go far in our first season (and if we don't happen to win the cup this year, then next year).

The only people who have a right to feel embarrassed about yesterday's performance are those Chicago divers who flopped around and begged for fouls. Anyone who put out 100% effort in that ridiculous heat should be patting himself on the shoulder.

Besides, the next game will be sooo much better.

Looks as if he's already there. Not sad. Quite pissed off at himself, rather.

I'll be sure to cheer twice as loud when you put one away. Do what ever it takes to forget this one. Maybe practice that same shot 20 times. Visual it going in, then then get back to burning defenders.

Remember Pat Onstad's first game? He slapped a pop-up into the net for an own-goal. It happens. Salinas needs to double up his commitment to the team, so it does not happen any more. This could make him a stronger player, and likely Yallop will push him to be one.

He stopped what might have been the worst PK ever.

Where's the photo of Beasely beating him from a sheer angle, near post?

Its a lot easier for a defender or a Gk to redeem himself but not an offensive player.....
