I know some of you think we wont see Mexico playing soccer in the olympics, but, fear not, there's still hope.. Let us know if you see or hear some results..
Hopefully they will do a better job and make us proud. But, really, i don't think it could have gotten any worse with the men's side, so anything they do will be better.
Possibly. I saw the U-20 women play the A&M Aggies on March 1. The Mexican team was basically made up of young (one of the girls was 17) and inexperienced players, so much so that they lost 4-1. That team was coached by Andrea Rodebaugh. From that team, the only player that Leonardo Cuellar called up for the Olympic qualifiers is Charlyn Corral (#9 pictured below). The Mexican side was lost the entire first half. Corral came in for the second half and made an immediate impact. The score could have been much worse.
Pamela Tajonar (Morelos). Sophía Pérez (California). Angélica Figueroa (California). Marlene Sandoval (California). Marichuy Castillo (Jalisco). Natalie Vinti no idea, is a brand new player. Charito Saucedo (Durango). Isabel Valdez (Coahuila). Lulú Gordillo (Mexico state). Leticia Villalpando (California). Evelyn López (D.F.) Mónica Vergara (Mexico state). Patricia Pérez (Jalisco). Tania Morales (Jalisco). Rebeca Mendoza (Texas?). Guadalupe Worbis (Yucatán). Mónica Ocampo (Morelos). Iris Mora (Quintana Roo). Carmenita Padilla (California). Charlyn Corral (Mexico state). That's 5 players from California, 3 from California and the Mexico state, 2 from Morelos, and one from each of the other states, Durango, Coahuila, D.F., Yucatán and Quintana Roo. Rebeca Mendoza plays for the Sting Soccer but since thera are several "stings" all over the US, I'm not sure where is she from, probably Texas. As for Natalie Vinty, this seems to be her official first tournament with the team, is a real surprise, must probably, she's from the US, because no one in Mexico had heard anything about her before.
I think they have a must win situation against Canada.. what else is new http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=665746&s=fut&type=story
The game against Canada is tonight (8:30 Central Standard Time). Mediotiempo.com is predicting the following line-up: 20.- Sophia Pérez 14.- María Isabel Valdez 3.- Rubí Marlene Sandoval 5.- María de Jesús Castillo 6.- Mónica Vergara 11.- Patricia Pérez 8.- Carmen Padilla 13.- María de Lourdes Gordillo 10.- Teresa Worbis 19.- Iris Mora 7.- Juana Evelyn López Mexico needs to win to qualify for the Olympics in Beijing.
Mexico loses 1-0 and fails to go to the olympics. Apparently by the comments, Mexico got owned. And Charlyn Corral is talented but really needs to hit the gym or jenny craig because apparently it's affecting her.
None of this girls play in primera, nor have the resources to compete with the top branch of the fem world soccer, and to lose 3-1 and 1-0 to two great teams, i say that's a success, not a fracaso.. I mean i remember when we used to lose 11-0 against the US, but in a short time they have grown, even thought they don't have a league. P.S. as a side note the Spanish team where Maribel Ochoa plays didn't let her come and play.. ..
