    Just read on CNN that he passed away. :(

    Been one of my favorite authors for a long time.

    From the Movies board:
    Much as I loved the short stories and the several novels I read, I think my favorites was a collection of essays entitled The View from Serendip. The essays cover roughly a decade after he moved to Sri Lanka and feel like a good portrait of the man.

    "Reunion" from Wind from the Sun.

    Given where we are, I think it's also worth noting "A Slight Case of Sunstroke", which is a very amusing story with soccer as a central element.

    A classic line. I think my favorite Clarke story is The Star.

    Of the novels, I'm fond of The City and the Stars.

    The last of the Big Three. I think he's worn better than Heinlein or Asimov, too.
