I want to have a big sign made. Black background, yellow letters in like a copperplate gothic font. I think it would be cool since calling the corner the "Nordecke" seems to be rather popular.

People with a little more experience on signs. How much would that run me. Is there any funds anywhere to help? From the team or the groups? just wondering.

Yeah I like that but maybe just the "Nordecke" part. Not sure which would be better.

Lol, and I don't have that kind of cash. Just bought my season tickets today. Dropped me from 400 dollars to 300 dollars in the bank account. Lol, I'm a college student.

Since the FO is buying more flags etc for the section maybe they'd be willing to chip in for it?

Well, if you just wanted the word Nordecke it might be able to go on an 8'x2' sign, but that's not gonna be that big either. I think 8x3 is minimal. Maybe we can kick in some money or talk to the union bosses about some contributions? ;)

I personally like the whole thing, just the word Nordecke and people might be scratching their heads...

Cloth or vinyl? From past experience;), cloth gets worn after a summer or two. Eyelets for zip-tying?

Umm I don't care if the regular fans scratch their heads. If they are interested enough they will hit up a translator. The people that matter to me will figure it out, most already get what it means already.

It's not that tough. Oh it's german let's look it up.

I think eboe is saying he likes it because it will make some people scratch their heads in confusion.

Confusion leads to curiousness which leads to investigation. :)

It is really that popular beyond 3-4 posters on BigSoccer? Just askin. May want to wait and see what the actual people that make up the groups think about it.

Yeah your right it's probably better to sit around and do nothing. Instead of trying to cultivate and culturalize the new section. Good call.

What do you want to call it, "crew cat corner"? Better yet nothing.

I get what your saying but someone's always not going to like something. And, it seems to me more than 3 or 4 ppl as you described like it. I'm just going based on the Location's I have been seeing lately on BS crew soccer posters. Also by other people using the phrase in posts.

See unless everyone is going to chip in and pay for it. Then should I honestly care? Some people didn't like the upside down sign last year but then again I guess everyone is making an individual statement with their own individual signs.

Sometimes when a group is lacking culture you have to force a somewhat approved idea upon the whole group hoping it will catch on. Nordecke, Fools Rush In, etc.

I bet some people didn't like "You'll Never Walk Alone" at Liverpool when the song first started. Just maybe? As well as other supporters ideas at other clubs. I just think "Nordecke" sounds cool and hard. It builds up a reputation. Away fans will be like well that's where they sit in the "Nordecke" we shouldn't go over there.

    Not now but hopefully someday.

Our groups lack an identity. That's our problem now.

Any effort with my site or using a new phrase like "Nordecke" is an attempt to build an identity.

It is vinyl, and it does have grommets. They will also do wind slits if you want.

crewfighter, I agree with your last two posts. I like what you said about needing to help people move things forward, because if you sit around and try to democrotize everything, then you suddenly find yourself bogged down in such a slow moving machine that nothing gets done or decided upon.

Like you said, it's a name that has an edge to it. Also, it is completely independant of the current naming conventions of the supporters. Nordecke becomes our umbrella group... just as Section 8 serves as such in Chicago. We still get to keep everybody's interests separated to a degree with having HSH, Turbina, and CSU, and none of the groups should feel like the Nordecke name is favoring one group and excluding another.

And unless there is a real alternative suggestion out there, hem-hawing and sucking your gums about what some annoymous people think is wasting time. If they don't take the time to get involved in the process, they have nobody to blame but themselves if the decisions of the process upset them.

Knowledge is power, and I reckon that puts people on the wobble. It's like I see banners in Argentine leagues the read 'BUDGE'. And yes at first glance, I'm like WTF?!?!? But eventually, through research I found out what it meant (it's a city district in the capital).

it's a take off from whatever club in the Bundesliga. I say wait for a few matches and see what you guys "actually" name the section.

I looked on google for "nordecke" and the first result was this thread. The next result was something from BS as well.

Bablefish says it's "northhits a corner".

    Something about north corner??

As an umbrella name for the section and not any one particular group, I suppose I could live with it. I also like Brook's idea. Do we REALLY need a name by the first game?

I think one of the more popular terms is "kurve" instead of "ecke" in German stadiums (turn rather than corner). My impression is that there is also an understanding that "ecke" is something that is a more pronounced, sharp corner, if that makes any difference (and I could be off on that too).

As for when and what we call it, I'm not in a rush for a sign, and think we will be floating the test balloon of the name over the next few games, but I'd rather we be testing it out and getting a response than just deciding to let things take a natural course of action and therefore individuals decide to take no action at all. if that makes sense.

Lol, yeah there is no rush. But whatever that's what I'm calling it and if I make a sign eventually I don't expect people to be lighting it on fire. :) Hopefully

And I don't believe there are any german bundesliga teams with a overall group called Nordecke. I guess someone may just assume that since it's german but Nordecke means "North-corner". Most german supporters groups are not in a corner but an end. Your probably thinking of "Curva Nord" I just was putting North Corner in different languages on babel fish until I found one that I liked.

I've never been fond of it. My first thought was WTF? Not that i am against it, i think it wise to let names develop. Save your sign money until a name gets designated a bit more. Once a name is picked out though, i'd like to chip in since i won't make many games this season.
