Well, to be fair I also think we will lose to France, no matter if we play Haiti or Italy before. I just think a simpler opponent is a good way to get the ball rolling - no pun intended!

Who are the young ones that Vizuete is trying out? I see a few regulars (Valencia, Castillo, Benitez, etc...) but I'm interested in the youth too.

Yeah...good catch! I wonder why? They just made it to the next round of Copa Libertadores didn't they?

    Hmmm, interesting!

    Re: Ecuador friendly matches 2008

Vizuete openly stated that he would not call any Liga players because Liga has a Copa Libertadores match the same day as the Haiti match.

Too bad, because Liga is playing well. I would expect Guerron, Bolanos, Campos, Ambrossi and Cevallos would be called up under normal circumstances. Maybe Salas and Vaca too.

... oops, forgot Urrutia who has been playing well (although he hasn't played at his top level for the national team in the past)

I knew there had to be a logical reason behind this. Looking at the potentials...it looks like Ecuador has quiet some depth to the squad!

its definitely something that puts my mind to rest...maybe one of the first times we can say if a starter isn't present, the sub will do just as well....I'm glad

Salas and Vaca,, they are not even regular starters in Liga. Why would they be called to the NT.Jairo Campos sucks mighty big balls and is not good enough for the NT.
Guerron will most def be a sub in the NT,However I agree with Bolanos,Ambrossi and Cevallos(whos looking OK at this time)Urrutia and I think Pedro Larrea should get a chance tambien.

Here are the young ones,Mendoza(who plays with my cousin en la Liga de Portoviejo:D:cool:)Michael Castro,Gabriel Achilier,Miguel Bravo, and Jefferson Pinto. Finally Pedro Quinones from El Nacho is getting a chance,I bet if Suarez was still around Quinones would have never gotten a chance,,keep eye on this guy ladies, the man is harta pelotas.
I see Walter Ayovi Corozo keeps getting lucky on the call ups,aun no mi convence el pana even though he played the game of his LIFE against Peru. One good game don't mean sh!t the bum has to be consistent, lets see if he continues to perform the way he did against Peru,,then we'll talk.
And Lara,,Lara is on a slump right now, even though I don't see him has a starter for this friendly ,,I think Pablo Palacios is doing more merit than Lara to be called for this game.

I know FiFA Rankings don't mean anything, but it doesn't feel good when you read your country's ranking is 54 and they are better than most of the teams ranked in the 30s.

The friendly's we should play to improve our ranking and get ready for WCQ should be against Honduras, Hungary and Wales.

to me, Pablo Palacios is as useful as Ebelio Ordonez was on the NT....I've never seen him in any stand out game for club or NT, he just doesn't make the cut..at least Lara had that one fantastic game against Argentina but proved to be a tricky guy even in the world cup against England and a few friendlies. even in his slump, he's still better than Palacios imo

Salas is playing himself back into shape after almost a year without playing and has been used by Bauza as a sub in every recent match, including Copa ... his play has been uneven, but he is still highly talented and I would not be surprised if he starts to shine in Liga again ... when healthy, he is always a maybe on the NT, in my opinion.

Vaca has also been a good sub with Liga and scored the winning goal on the road recently. I wouldn't put him on my starting NT team either, but good, fast, young lefties are nice to have on any team ... he is a very nice piece of the Liga mix and has done OK at the NT level in his few chances last year in friendlies (scored a goal vs. Sweden, I think).

Vizuete has a much harder task than to pick the best XI of Ecuador. He has to pick the best XI that can play with each other, support each other, motivate each other and communicate with each other.

That will be his biggest problem, which is not a bad problem to have due to the fact that Ecuador's squad has much more depth to chooce from than they did 10 years ago!

XI "stars" on the field that can't find the chemistry to get the ball from the keeper, on to the defenders, played by the midfield and feeding the forwards efficiently is about as effective as a one-legged Ethiopian trying to chase a donut rolling down a hill!

How can you say Palacios is useless in the NT if the man never got a chance en la sele. The man has been having good seasons lately, por eso esta en Barcnacho this year.Of course he is not a Che Carlitos or Tin Delgado, but the man pone empeno.

Pablo Palacios might very well be the best national forward playing in Ecuador right now unfortanely he is becoming a victim under the pressure of the Guayaquilean press and Mondaini will take his starting position, same story with el Pony Ladines these are two awesome forwards gentleman but have fallen to our typical "play the foreign guy" attittude same story in Liga where Eder Vaca should be playing but with Bieller he will have a hard time. look at how many of our good forwards are being benched in our very own country, Cholo Vera, Zura,Ladines, Vaca, Baldeon, but to stay on subject, this is an interesting calling list. Iwonder who will start.

I feel for Palacios,Cholo Vera,Zura and Ladines, these are ballers who need to be starters in their clubs so they can exploit and fugear their talent, because they are NT potential,,especially Zura who was being scouted by clubs del exterior. But like always the big ecua clubs get the best homegrown ballers para calentar banco, and in the long run hurting el crecimiento y desarollo del futbolista criollo.

good ecua ballers sometimes fall into the trap of the "extranjero compromiso" where the foreigner will get the playing time by default and the ecua rides the bench. Although I'll give it up to the foreigners right now, they are stepping up for their clubs, at least Liga's are showing great signs of adaptation but I always thought a guy like Zura with his speed and talent would be complemented with a more experienced foreign striker...I dunno, but I think a lot of it just has to do with most of the foreigners are probably paid more and expected to step up. I wish Zura and Ladines could get a good shot and that they can wind up in the exterior because I know those fellas can ball up
