I didn't see "other" as a choice. I'd prefer "Athletic," but don't see that as being available, etc. None of the other options excite me...although it appears "Independence" may be the name, if domain registrations are to be believed.
Sparta Philadelphia!! I think a city with a greek name needs a greek style name, who's with me?! I also like Philadelphia Athletic as a second choice
Re: Sparta Philadelphia!! Athletic IS Greek. While the city has a Greek name, it's not because it was founded by Greek immigrants, so I'm not sure of the relevance. Should Columbus have an Italian name?
Re: Sparta Philadelphia!! No, Columbus should be renamed Delaware. Agree on the Greek thing. The only thing Greek about Philly is the name, South St Souvlaki, and Greek weekend. Oh, and Nicho.
Philadelphia Blue Coats Philadelphia Colonials Philadelphia Continentals Philadelphia Forgers Philadelphia AC (dead last -- minimal imagination)

Brotherhood Football Club (The Brothers) I'm sure that this has been said and I'm not from Philly and have not been there but most of the names on the poll seemed pretty lame to me. Honestly I'm not totally sold on the Brothers. But my point was that the others seemed a bit generic and not representing Philly's rich history (I went to 6th grade) Anyway, cheers boys. Good luck
Maybe Philly is a good place for a club that doesn't have the city in the title? The MLS needs some variety.......
Get variety by repackaging the shit in Kansas City or Columbus. Like Dave said if you name it something other than Philadelphia, you might as well not bother.
I realize that from Hickory, it's hard to know all the different iterations the names have gone through here. And, Lenoir-Rhyne stinks. Go Elon.
I like Independence or FC Philadelphia. One of my huge gripes with MLS are franchises that rip names from top clubs from around the world. Real Salt Lake? Are there any Spanish-speaking people in Salt Lake? Give me a break! Then there is the Houston Dynamo. The complete lack of originality in the franchise namings for MLS are borderline silly. So PLEASE, do not name our new team after another world power. If I have to support a team called Sporting Philadelphia or Inter Philadelphia I might vomit. I am VERY excited to have professional football (the REAL football) back in Philadelphia and also proud to have joined a what looks to be a fantastic support group in Sons of Ben. Now, to buy some kevlar for the weekly jaunts into Chester...
You had me until the last line. I have never needed Kevlar going to concerts in Camden, and the off ramps that they will be building before the stadium opens will make this travel even more direct.
I hate the new naming conventions also, but... Salt Lake City was almost 19% Hispanic in 2000, which is over twice the percentage statewide. Between 1990 and 2000 Utah's Hispanic population grew 138.3%. If that growth has continued, which it probably has then over one fifth of the cities population is Hispanic. Now, not all of them speak Spanish, but I'm sure some of the non-Hispanics do to counterbalance that. So, to answer your question, yes. data from census: http://www.governor.utah.gov/DEA/Minorities.pdf
I was vaguely aware of the general makeup of the populace of Salt Lake City prior to making my jest, but I do appreciate the time and effort it took for you to provide me with the full demographic breakdown of Utah's boretropolis. I will attempt to restrain from making innaccurate blanket statements here in the future. Hopefully you see that my point was more concerned with the silly names that have been bestowed upon some MLS franchises, though now I see I should have thought a few more seconds to come up with better examples. I too have survived my trips to Camden to see shows, but have had some very interesting near-misses while venturing away from the venue to get gas. It is my hope that the new team and stadium help to revitalize Chester. There are a lot of good people there and the area has vast potential. But, if you don't think you could get yourself in trouble in a lot of pockets (in Chester or Camden if you prefer), you are fooling yourself. Does anyone know if the new ownership group will unveil a name on Thursday? Hopefully they don't rush this. In addition to ruling out Sporting Philadelphia and Inter Philadelphia, can we also agree to exclude Philadelphia Juniors and Atletico Philadelphia? I guess I should watch what I wish for, since we already have the New York Red Bulls. We might get to support the Five Hour Energies of Philadelphia or the Philadelphia Comcasts. The Independence. That has a nice, powerful, classy ring to it.
philly circa 1980 or so, there were virtual NO mexicans in philly... now, go to a restaurant, construction site, and you'll find many mexicans here... i suspect chivas usa comes to visit, and the new stadia willbe a mini azteca...
I dont think so, because the majority of the seats will be season tickets. And the rest will be at a premium and separated throughout the stadium
