I wasn't a big fan of removing chepo as a coach in the middle of a season, but Efrain Flores has made a believer out of me. After seeing how he ended the season last year and how he has started the season this year with the same squad chepo had and without refuerzo's, i now realize how tight he is. After 4 jornada's, chivas have the best defense in the league and the best offense. I seriously believe he can take us a liga title or libertadores title, if not both. I also love his passion, look at how happy he gets when chivas scores! Discuss him as a coach, his strategies, his tactics, and how far you think he'll take us in 2008.

he's done a tremendous job so far

since his arrival, our offense has been lethal as ever and has delivered us many great showings

if anything, my only complaint is the inconsistency the team may have during a game. giving us one great half, and a bad second half and vice versa. but that is something that can be fixed.

he is also known to work extremely well with cantera players which i really like

here's hoping for a Championship year in '08

I really like this guy, he has made us into the greatest offense and defense in ever since he came. I think I see another star on our jersey this year, I mean its amazing how we have scored 12 goals in 4 games

The thing I like about him the most is that he didn't complain about not having any refuerzos. Instead he gave our young players confidence by saying we had enough talent in our cantera to win a championship. Lets hope the kids keep it up so we could win at least 1 trophy.

Actually, Efra did make it clear during many interviews before the season that he was hoping for a refuerzo, and that he had narrowed it down to a couple of players. The rumor was that it was Amaury Ponce from Toluca, and Barrera from Pumas, both of which never came to fruition obviously.

Flores has done an amicable job so far, and during some stretches it's nice to see that we've abandoned "Chepo ball" for the most part (bunkering with a lead). The team's focus is on 1 to 2 touch passing with an attack that's not entirely focused on the wings like we're used to and is only used when the opposition has shown to be vulnerable to that type of offense.

I'm going to wait till we start the Liber to see how he'll rotate the squad, but we have a really favorable schedule this season with most (if not all) our important games to be played at home.

With the way this team is playing and the depth we've shown in recent weeks, I don't see any reason why they can't pick up a sizable lead in both the group, and overall standings.

i like your last statement i feel like chivas needs to continue winning so by the time libertadores rolls around we are up in the standing and dont have to worry som much about points.

As much as I hope he can bring us a trophy this year, I agree that the start of libertadores will be very telling on his ability as a coach and our chances of winning something.

I think he'll eventually give Arrellano and Nava some minutes, but he'll probably wait until Libertadores group stage is in full swing. I wouldn't mind if he built a strong lead in points in the liga now and used mainly jovenes in the mexican league and A-team for libertadores down the line.

ya he took out Ramon too early i think so. and Avila should have been left in. Santana as an enganche? i know we seen that happen last season.

Yeah, Ramon and Avila were holding the ball and creating chances. When they were subbed off we didn't have control anymore and were lucky to take all three points.

My verdict is still out on Flores. The way I see it Chivas has been a fine tuned Machine for a few years now. The squad and playing style have not changed much.

Remember Hans did good, Galindo did good, as did Chepo.. Only Azkargota threatened to derail the team. To Flores credit the team is scoring more goals. And you cant argue results: Super-Liderato..

I get where you are coming from on the Chivas machine, but I'll at least give Flores credit for starting Avila in his coaching debut. Talk about being lost on the bench.

I could see the Ramon sub. With the doble jornada, plus Libertadores coming on, we need him to be well rested for every game. From a Chivas perspective I would have selfishly left Avila in though, since we probably won't have him after Saturday. I couldn't tell well if this was what he was doing, but it seemed with the Santana-Zully sub that he moved Baez up (Chepo used to try him as an enganche) and left Zully to cover for Baez.

So let's assume Pato and Avila get called to the U23 fulltime camp. What will Flores do? We know Chepo would put Pineda in for Pato, start Medina (with Santana behind Bravo-Medina). But will Flores follow suit? I can see the Pineda start happening, but hope he leaves Santana upfront if he starts. I don't want to see the Santana behind Bravo-Medina experiment again. Flores started Medina at carrilero last season. Maybe he'll try Medina there, Baez (or Fabian??) at enganche, and leave Bravo-Santana up top.

I think Flores deserves a little more credit than simply saying he has taken the head of an already functioning Chivas machine. Chepo did pretty well for a bit, but last season was terrible. And even the season that Chepo won the campeonato Chivas were not as offensive as they have been under Flores (both this season and end of last season). So with that in mind, I do think that Chivas strategy has changed significantly from Chepo to Flores. The only evidence I have of this is that Chivas is simply scoring more goals under Flores than they did under Chepo, but I think that's pretty solid evidence.

Honestly, even the season Chepo won the titulo I didn't find their soccer to be attractive so much as it was effective (with the exception of el Bofo during certain moments). I find them very enjoyable during this Flores era and I personally can't wait to see how this will translate during the libertadores. Like all things in sports though, it will take a titulo of some sorts before we can officially label him as better than Chepo, but for now he's the man.

I was a fan of chepo because of the passion he showed, but now im glad we picked up Efrain, not only does he show that fire but he understands what needs to be done. He hasnt shown stubberness with his lineups, one thing that i hate is when you have to question the coaches lineup decisions and tactics, and Efrain hasnt made me question his decisions one bit. Good job Vergara

I'd say Flores has done 3 things that have stood out to me.

1-Place Santana in his natural role.
    2-Start Avila.
    3-Give Ramon less defensive responsibilities.

People here have been clamoring for #1 for a while. Many also pushed for #2, though in full disclosure I wasn't as confident even though he did great at the end of Cla 06 (foolishly trusting Chepo?). I don't remember what people said about #3. All 3 moves have worked out great, and can make us forget he started Medina as carrilero derecho last season.

That brings me to two other moves that still have to play out. One is the Medina move. What does Flores do now that Medina is back full strength? If he's back up top, he has to figure who to bench or where to move Santana (hopefully Santana doesn't take over for Avila). If he puts him back at carrilero, what does he do with Baez who has played well? Or he could substitute Medina for Avila directly while he's gone with the U-23.

The second is the Pato move. Araujo became a starter again because Mejia was injured. He's looked good starting, and the team is undefeated. It'll be interesting to see how the team does in weeks 7-11 without Pato (and Avila). Pineda seems to be an obvious replacement (plus Mejia is still injured), and even started at contencion for the national team last year, but I wonder what happens when Pato returns. Who starts then?

^ Pato should still start when he returns. He is miles better than Mejia. Mejia can't read the game very well and can't tackle or nick the ball from opponents, something every DM should be able to do.

Once he starts playing better he should partner Araujo in the center midfield. People forget that that partnership was key in winning the Apertura '06.

Like someone has mention before, he still lacks in making the right substitutions.
And does he hate Arellano?? I mean c'mon this kid has the potential to become a great player and he has only seen 29 minutes this torneo so far??

I for one am happy to see Pato starting ... Arellano should get some more minutes as well... but other than that I feel Flores is guiding us in the right direction:cool:
