The 60th edition of the Torneo di Viareggio begins today. It is one of the biggest youth competitions in the world, and all the Italian teams send their Primavera squads to face off against teams from all over the world.

This is a tournament where dozens of scouts will be present, because this is where talent is discovered.

Last year Genoa led by young Fernando Forestieri won the competition, defeating Roma in the final.

The first game today is Genoa-Tottenham, with another former Viareggio star Sebastian Giovinco joining the pre-match festivities.

exciting 3-3 tie between Genoa and Tottenham in the opening match, after 5 first half goals Andrea Signorini (son of Genoa great Luca Signorini) scored the equalizer for Genoa in the opener. Always an important tournament just think last year Forestieri and Giovinco were playing in it and this year they are impressing in Serie A.

TuttoMercatoWeb has great coverage of the tournament and each day picks out the youngsters that impressed.

Today was Milan's Nigerian playmaker Kingsley Umunegbu, and Shakhtar's regista Yuriy Konshyn.

Another bright young talent, class of '90, Vasco Regini, of Cesena.

He is a fullback that is very mature for his age. Milan is supposedly very interested in him.

Juventus beat the International Allies 2-0.

Starting keeper Giorgio Merlano was injured so the huge 2nd string keeper Carlo Pinsoglio got the start and didn't disappoint. Striker Donato Bottone scored both goals as the baby Bianconeri take over the top of group B.

on another note, im still suprised that Roma are already eliminated. A little dissapointing, but once you look at all of the top tier talent they've graduated to Serie A and Serie B recently, its not a big deal to lose the tournament.

Yeah Roma is really in a transition period right now. Most of the players they had last year have been sent on loan to gain experience. They still have some quality players like Claudio Della Penna and Simone Palermo but I guess it just didn't work out.

    Inter wins the Viareggio tournament.

Inter and Empoli tied 2-2 after extra time (2 goals from Balotelli for Inter, 1 each from Caturano and Arvia for the Tuscans) and then Inter won 7-6 in penalties.

Caturano is fairly young as well, he's only 17.
