Mods feel free to merge this with the PanPac thread, there had been a lot of questions there as to whether and where these games would air.

Given that it was a rumor made official, I think it deserves its own thread so people don't have to search through that one to find out where to watch.

But like I said, feel free...

You need higher standards for your day. You could find this info lots of places. However, finding someone who doesn't know of Steve Martin, almost impossible.

Really? I simply have digital cable (Comcast, which generally sucks with having different channels) and I get ESPN Classic.

The games are 6 pm and 8:30 pm local time in Hawaii, so that's 11 pm and 1:30 am ET on the Classic.

Note to self: Take a nap those evenings and prep the coffee maker...

Whats with ESPN classic broadcasting random soccer events ie u-20 world cup and now pan-pacific tourney. Please dont say u-20 WC is random because for espn it is.

The U-20 tourney was on ESPNU, which a perfectly sensible place for it... the players are college aged and the channel has no significant programming over the summer once colleges (and their sporting teams) are off.

ESPN Classic for the PPC is a somewhat odd choice, but it's not like it is a significant tournament and so SUM probably was happy just to get live national coverage. I'm sure they weren't going to argue that this deserved higher level coverage and risk getting nothing.

Anyhow, I think that ESPN is covering the PPC bodes very well for soccer coverage. If ESPN feels that that tourney is worth broadcasting, perhaps we can see them pick up SuperLiga or the CCL.

Hey, do you have Comcast? I live in Seattle and have Comcast Digital and it's like 2 channels up from FSC, ESPN Classic channel 403.

That gets my vote. SuperLiga would be great on ESPN Classic.

Hey dan, go to the comcast store (any of them) and pick up a digital cable box for $5 a month

I hear you can also buy these on eBay but they must be from someone else in seattle for them to work.

Personally I don't want current sports on the Classic channel. As was mentioned, defeats the damn purpose. I'm going to be pretty upset if the SuperLiga isn't on ESPN original or ESPN2 when it does happen. If those channels can show me fishing shows, cheerleader competitions, effin' card games, and the meaningless MLS All Star Game we should be able to convince our broadcast "partner" to show an international tournament with a million-dollar prize on one of the two big channels.

    1. The U-20s was part of the overall World Cup deal ESPN signed.

    b. Just because some people tell you that ESPN hates soccer and will do everything in its power to destroy it because they think we are all losers for following it, they are actually pretty astute business people and realize the potential of Beckham on TV. Plus, this probably will gain them some viewership on their Pacific Rim channels. While people like to say ESPN hates soccer based on its American affiliates, the network is a worldwide force that shows lots of soccer in countries where it has more poularity. But actually looking at the big picture is too hard for people whose entire personality is dependant on feeling persecuted as a soccer fan regardless of the reality.

Why shouldn't they show card games, fishing and cheerleading? Why is soccer more important than those other events, besides the selfish needs of soccer fans.

I too would like to see SuperLiga get better exposure. But I don't think I need to minimize someone else's interests - interests which can bring in pretty good ratings - just to satisfy me.

You should start preparing now. Maybe start some sort of emergency kit. Bottled water, canned food, additional battery for your laptop so you can log non to BigSoccer and whine.

Don't forget a blankie to hide under.

ESPN "Classic" has veered off course from its original mission. More or less these days, it's turned into ESPN "Replay-last-week's-ACC-game-and-stick-programming-we-won't-put-on-the-two-main-channels".

ESPN Classic is showing more and more live sporting events.

They now show live college football, college basketball, car races, and other things. Mostly when there are conflicts with ESPN or ESPN2 but sometimes just as a way to air more games. College football is the best example. Often the ABC regional broadcasts will have one game on ABC, one game on ESPN or ESPN2, and one game on ESPN Classic. Where you live determines which game you get on which channel but you can still get access to all three games.

They should just go ahead and re-brand it as ESPN 3.

That would also get us one step closer to The Ocho.

I don't see why they don't have a soccer show yet or even turn the Deportes into an english channel with more world soccer news.

I hate how they have Soccer on for one minute on sportscenter and they don't even show the entire highlights of a game.
That's why I subscribe to Gol, Setana, and FSC baby!!

ESPN sucks when it comes to soccer. But we gotta take what we can get.

    ESPN sucks?

Or ESPN America (the property that shows MLS, the MNT, the WNT, the World Cup, the European championships, and many other FIFA properties) sucks?

Or ESPN's news gathering entities in America (SportsCenter and EOE) suck?

Because if you look at what ESPN does globally for soccer, it's hard to say the company sucks when it comes to soccer.

But I should know better than to bring facts into this discussion. It's easier to praise networks that buy someone else's feed and put people in a booth in the states to provide commentary. I love FSC and GlTV, but let's not put our blinders on here. Outside of the odd studio show, they aren't doing much on their own.
