I think it might be useful to have a player like that (even though he's only likely to have 1-2 good seasons left) as a jumpstart for the Quakes - to help get the team coalesced and provide a playmaker. I could think of worse options, and unless I'm mistaken, the Quakes should be flush enough with allocation cash that this would be doable.

From what I've seen in games and what I read in the article, Gomez looks like a cry baby to me. Anything longer than a 1-year contract would make him a cancer in the Quakes locker room.

As a supporter, I say hell yes. The man has show a ton of passion and support for DC's fans, including going into the stands and banging a drum during a game in which he was suspended. I can't comment on how he is with his teammates, but he has always had the heart of the fans.

    Helluva player too.

I expect him to go overseas somewhere. I'll be shocked if he stays in MLS. He wants more cash, and most MLS clubs are not willing to give it to him.

Too bad. He's a great player. And yeah, I'd like to have him. But as always, Frank and JD know better than me.

    GOOOOO QUAAAAAAKES!!!!! :D

Any MLS team would be lucky to have him. He's bled DC colors and been clutch in so many games for us. I'm sad that his career in DC is probably over.

As stated in another thread, he'd be a good pick up for the Quakes!

I'm still not sold on Gomez. He's a good player but he's asking for too much money and we would have to use our DP slot on him.

How about Terry Cooke as an alternative. Wont score as many goals as Gomez but he definitely is an assists producers and we wont have to use our DP slot on him.

Good alternate choice, if the FO can get him.

Well, the Rapids snagged Gomez for their 1st round draft pick in 2009. He's coming in at a 400,000 per year salary. Looks like we could've picked him up for a draft pick next year. What do you think? Did we drop the ball or was he too expensive? I say we should've taken the gamble, we won't find another player with his history of goal and assist contributions in the MLS this season, that i can guarantee.

It was a first round draft pick AND a DP slot for the next three years.

Still think SJ should have pulled the trigger?

That's a huge factor right there. I don't think I'd have done that.
