AC is no good. It's like AC as in Atlantic City. AC/Philadelphia. Like New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.

AC Philadelphia is the closest thing to Athletic I think we can get. I doubt people will associate it with Atlantic City... But in the worst case scenario, the Harrah's crowd might mistake AC Philadelphia games for another way to blow their social security checks, and we'll get a ticket bump. Either way, we win!

The people who will "get" and probably like AC Philadelphia are the same people who will "get" and probably like Philadelphia FC or Philadelphia SC.

The people who would be confused by AC Philadelphia are the same ones who would wonder what the official mascot/nickname is with Philadelphia FC/SC.

The way I see it, no Europandering name has any intrinsic value more than any other beyond personal preference (I like AC Philadelphia the most FWIW).

 

AC Philadelphia is far too euro - I rather like Philadelphia Independence FC or Philadelphia Founders FC

Sorry for digging something olde out...

In the case you guys would go for a name with AFC in it, I would suggest to name it "Philadelphia AFC" rather than of "AFC Philadelphia".

Why?

Firstly because PAFC rolls off the tongue better than AFCP.

And secondly because the acronym PAFC allows for yet another possible meaning:

• Philadelphia Association Football Club
• Philadelphia Athletic Football Club
• Philadelphia Athletics FC
• Pennsylvania (PA) FC

Actually a no-brainer, but my two ¢ents for the cash register...

• Independence (FC)
• Philadelphia Indepedence (FC)
• AC Philadelphia (Note; if you use thi acroynm you must add another sport like basketball or etc)
• AC Indepedence (FC)
