I want to see a good game and the USA team to perform well. The score barely matters. We beat Mexico regularly and we played a poor WC 2006. The only thing that matters is getting the team to perform well to prepare for 2010. Wins and losses at this stage are for fools and losers.

I share your sentiment somewhat. Beating Mexico over and over in the United States doesn't really mean dick in the global scheme of things. What I would like to see is the US play some decent matches in Europe against full strength, in form, national teams. Also, if this US - Mexico rivalry is such a big deal, let's play a match in Mexico once in a while. That would be a real test and I think we are ready for it.

That stated, I surely don't want us to lose tomorrow.

agree. Beating Mexico in a friendly does not get us much.

    totally disagree.
i LOVE beating Mexico. It makes me giddy. I get to talk smack to these two Mexican guys I know (good friends, hate Landon) ... really, there's no downside.
It's a rivalry. I want to win every time. Hell, I want to win every unimportant game the US plays. This isn't unimportant. It's US-Mexico. It will always matter.
    :)

EDIT: I just read a US-Mex preview from the AP. here's a tim howard quote:
Howard, though, wouldn't think of skipping a showdown with Mexico.
“Tomorrow's game is special,” he said Tuesday. “That rivalry brings its own intensity.”

    what he said.

I don't know how you can't get excited about playing our biggest regional rival, especially when they obviously want this one badly. They have called it all their biggest weapons. Yeah, it's a friendly, but it's still the biggest match we get outside the world cup, the exception being if we play Mexico in a tournament.

I am a little bored with it, and it just does not mean much. We have proven with ontological certainty that we can beat them regularly. It does not get us too much.

I have to say I'm in agreement with Bruce S here. If we win, great. If we lose or draw, no big deal. It's only a friendly.

Don't get me wrong I want us to win every game and I get excited for every single game we play and I'm really excited for tomorrow as well. I just don't see why a lot of folks are overly-excited for this game. Its not like its rare or anything to play Mexico here and I think we've done a really good job of proving we can beat them here. Now if the game was a friendly at Azteca or a WCQ vs them THEN I would extremely fired up to watch this.

I was actually semi-disappointed that we did in fact wind up calling most of our A players for this game. I was really looking forward to seeing certain players that aren't regulars get significant minutes against a quality opponent. For instance, I wanted to see Guzan go a full 90 against a good team. Also I wanted to see guys like Davis, Parkhurst, Clark, Moor, etc get a lot of minutes vs this quality opponent to see if they are ready and able to play a significant role in WCQ. While some of the guys I mentioned will probably play its not going to be as long as it would have been if we didn't bring most of the Euros.

That said, I'm looking forward to seeing Adu and Jozy getting good minutes and I will be cheering for another U.S. victory tomorrow.

I Agree Completely, but playing Mexico never gets old. My favorite was when Oswaldo Sanchez got really pissed after Landon scored and then tried to take down Eddie and his reaction when Benny scored one of the best shots that I have seen in a long time.

I don't know about you, but him getting pissed off - it is pure ecstasy.

Mexico-US friendlies need to slow down.
Dont get me wrong, I love beating them and all. But if this happens every year that excitement I used to get from watching them lose to us is just not going to be the same.

I was at the game last year in Phoenix and I loved every moment of it, our young guys taking out their big guns...and then watching them lose in the GC final to us was just wonderful.
But here we are a year later and were doing this thing.

I'm hoping we win just to continue our dominance, but I want to see us play more teams like Spain, hell, even strong african teams would be nice to face. After all Ghana was the team that ultimately kicked us out of the last WC.

We will play quality teams later this year such as Spain, but I think a intense game like usa-mexico can only prepare our team for what is to come. I wish we will never lose again to mexico regardless if the game is not viewed as important. I do think we should have called up some younger guys who usually don't get time.

First of all, I love this rivalry, I love our team, I hate the Mexican team, therefore I want us to route them 14-0. Plus if you just want the US to play well, that usually means winning.

I'm torn on this issue...From a POV, yeah, the result should not matter as much as seeing JOzy, Adu Donovan work together...Perhaps also seeing if Bradley will be used differently after witnessing how involved he is in attack/scoring for his club (now, take into account the Euro players will have a day or two of practice at most, so it'll be hard for Bob to make too many adjustments, especially wtih Jozy and Adu who haven't had enough caps to fully get used to the senior setup yet )...

OTOH, you have articles like this one
    http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/soccer/20080205-9999-1s5mexsoc.html
talking of all the Mexican youngsters (which let's admit have some quality to them) and you do NOT want them to play the US now (or ten years from now) and NOT get welcomed by a disheartening loss, which sets them to feel mentally what their older teammates already do:an inability to defeat the USMNT.... Even LD speaks of this "youthful exuberance" (to use a term)...I don't want Mexico's new generation to have any sense of superiority over the US team... so what better than to beat tehm to a pulp? :p

Then there is the coach (bottom of followong article)
    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/soc/5513376.html

I want the US to shut up the arrogant SOB... for the third time in a row....

SO yeah, while the result should not REEEAAALLY matter....I deeply care..... :( :)

Of course, I'll be cheering the US for a win, and will be sad if Mexico wins.

But here are other things that I would consider more important from this friendly than getting the win:

    1. Serious minutes and a good performance from Alitdore. That means at a bare minimum 45 minutes, some shots, some pressure on the Mexican backs, some nice combos with teammates, and maybe even a goal or assist. Just to see if the kid indeed looks like he will be a dangerous international-level striker.

    2. Serious minutes and a good performance from Adu. That means at a bare minimum 45 minutes, some effective possession and combination play with teammates, some good chances created. Goal or assist a bonus.

    3. Serious time together to test the chemistry and future potential of Donovan+Dempsey+Adu+Altidore.

    4. A good performance from the young 2-way central mids; any combo of Bradley, Clark, and Edu. Get them minutes and get then experience in a hard-fought international. This is part of the "plan" to make them international "veterans" by 2010.

    5. A breakout game by any one of the relative newbies such as Parkhurst, Moor, or Holden. They all play positions where the US has depth/quality issues.

If these five things all happen, then even a loss would be fine. If many of these things happen, then even a tie would be fine.

Judging from some of the leaked starting XIs, we are starting with Dempsey and Donovan up front. Doesn't look as if Bradley's experimenting even in a friendly vs Mexico. If these leaks are true, I am flabbergasted that Feilhaber, Lewis, Clark, and Convey are starting together in midfield! What?
Moor had to be the choice at RB - the only one on the roster.
    Boca at LB anyone?
Robinson gets to repeat his lucky goal vs Sweden?
I do expect the 6 subs allowed but when?
I don't expect Guzan will be one of them.
It's Howard vs the Tequila boys.

    Yuck. :(
