Looks like Shawn's got the scoop again...

    Tentative schedule

Open the season with Toronto FC, and close it with DC United...

We have two home games each month - looks like a balanced schedule.

decent looking schedule, July 4th weekend we get the Fire, the LA game is in October, what are the odds the Becks will make it lol....So the first home game we have to deal with the TFC fans, and the next home game we'll get the Chivas supporters, should be an interesting couple of home games...

I like the fact that there are many night games.

I hope the DC game at the end is the regular season finale an not just the home finale.

I was really hoping that the Crew weren't home on June 21 because I want to go to New York to watch the Reds play the Yankees. This works well.

I'm glad that none of the games fall on my vaca, although the 24th is cutting it close.

Based on the times (and being lazy) we only have 1 Thursday night game again?*

    *Not complaining, just observing.

I know the Crew were excited that MLS is ending the season a week later this year, meaning they could play their season finale at home instead of finishing with another 2-3 game road trip because of all the horse trailers.

So it's nice to see DCU coming to town on October 26.

    12 Saturdays, 2 Thursdays (Jul 17, Sep 18), and 1 Sunday (Oct 26).

The 2 teams we get twice at home are KC and New England.
I wonder which 2 teams we'll get twice on the road. Could be NY, DC, Tor, or Chi.

Remember, with the 14th team this year, the schedule can't balance up perfectly with last year's. Of our 6 Eastern Conference opponents, 2 of them we're only going to play twice. It would kind of suck if Chicago is one of the teams we only play twice, but on the other hand, it ought to make those two games even more intense than usual.

As someone who has to come a distance for games, this is a pretty friendly schedule. Those weekday games are impossible, so I'm appreciative when there are more opportunities to fit a trip down into my schedule.........

Only 2 home games that coincide with an OSU game, and only one of those is at home, vs. OU on Sept. 6th. (The other is Wisconsin away Oct. 4 and that's LA). Well done.

I have a feeling the at Wisconsin game will be at night, at least a 3:30pm game.

they just need to extend the season then, to make it more balanced. They cannot keep stealing away games from in-conference rivals.

Well, we've already got confirmation of Seattle coming into the league in 2009, so that's another 2 games accounted for on the schedule right there. Just add in one more team beyond that (whether its Philly, St Louis, Miami, Montreal, or wherever) and home-and-home series will account for all 30 games.

I think I remember Garber saying something along the lines of how we should expect fewer multiple-game series against conference foes as the league continues to expand. This might make regional matchups that we see frequently in the US Open Cup quite a bit more interesting in the future.

Way far in the future though, if the league should expand beyond, let's say, 22 teams, a full home-and-home schedule may no longer be the best option, and MLS might have to revert to conference breakdowns to help determine the schedule.

I thought that too, but they were smart in putting the game they know will draw the biggest crowd of the season on that day.

Once 16 teams are in place, and 30 matches scheduled, that definitely makes the home and home ideal. Now, if they could just go to the single table like everyone else...

i completely agree with switching the standing to a single table...if MLS is trying to get more European (jersey sponsors, etc.) switching to a single table would be ideal

Yes, 11th overall sounds a lot nicer than 5th in the East

I can tell Zip is having a bad morning from his last couple of posts. Cheer up man, it's less than 2 months from Crewsmas!

Sometimes I wish we had "A Crewsmas Story" - a young Crew fan goes to Santa and tells him they want a good soccer team, and Santa tells the kid "Kid, you'll get your sack punched out", and the Crew fan still wants to root for the Crew, and sure enough, by the end of the season, he gets quite a few sack punches.

You got me there, ZipSix, even though you were replying to crewfan10.

Didn't think about it that way.

The Crew finished 9th overall (with one more loss they would have been 11th). I would have tanked for draft picks.
