I have mixed feelings about it. I know it's preseason and it's a meaningless practice game, but it's still the gayinas and since they've been sucking so bad and winning nothing that matters lately, they really get up for this thing, and it means a lot to them. So we have to beat them. I hope we destroy them.

With Roman, Boca has won 8, tied 5 and only lost 3 ...

    Line-up:
    Migliore
    Maidana - Caceres - Paletta - Morel
    Ledesma - Battaglia - Neri
    ROMAN
    Palacio - Palermo

    THE MAGICIAN IS BACK!!! :D

Dale BOCA!!!!!!!Pre-season or not it would still be nice to carry some momentum into the campaign and I couldn't think of a better way to get things started. The only concern I've had is what seems to be a lack of scoring. Fortunately the defense has looked fairly solid considering our opponents are out to beat us each match. Vamos ************!

I hope Ortega misses a PK or something and that costs them the game. God how I dislike him. Dale Boca!

    EDIT:

Gol de Battaglia!!! Hasta chilena de Ledesma jaja.

Dammit seems like Morel is injured.

Exciting match considering it's a Verano match. Yeah Roman seems to be a step behind. His corners have been stellar but the free kicks were blah. I like the way Caceres is playing, I think he'll do just fine. I look for Roman to break out in the second half.

Damn what a second half by Riquelme!

Caceres had an excellent debut. His partnership with Palletta looks solid.

If Palacio had been more sharp Boca could have had a few more. Though I won't hold it against him since he was getting butchered by River's thug defense who's only tactic was to foul Boca's players.

The revelation for me was Monzon. Excellent game for him. Tall, strong defender but with some skill. I think he'll do well filling in for Morel.

Oh and LMAO at that miss by Ortega in the first half.

Seeing Riquelme at the end with the fans, smiling, and throwing his shirt to the crowd was great.

Ditto!!!!! Also worth noting was that Datolo the "Motorcycle Ashtray"actually had solid game and did well holding up moving play along. In short, he didn't try to do to much.

Datolo still does that annoying thing of constantly being in the way of his teammates. He doesn't really understand how to clear out and take a defender away with him. He seemed like he was given more freedom when he came on and was coming back or inside to get involved in possession. I think this helped him since he does fine until he gets near the penalty box. All of his good plays happen when he has space to work with.

ya aside from playing a solid game, Caceres got even more respect from me for that elbow he gave Ortega :)

Def agree. He is a keeper that will be very solid in the back. Great prospect. He almost scored from half field, and tiro un CANO!!

Very pleased with the game, especially with the defense. Maidana played well on the right side, and Caceres brings leadership and presence to the backfield that has been missing ever since we sold Cata Diaz.

Hey guys, I just got home after a night of partying with my wife. (I know it sounds lame but it's not, she's really cool.) So, I'm going to watch the game now, that I recorded. I didn't want to check the result but I couldnt resist. Nice to know we won. ********ing gayinas deserve it. I'll watch it now.

Riquelme was so obsessed with trying to score, it was pretty hilarious. Every corner/free kick he just shot it no matter what :p

Glad to confirm that what Boca needs as DM a beast like Battaglia. What a solid game from Seba! With the quality of Roman and the speed of Neri, Boca needs a DM that can win balls left and right. And that is what Battaglia can always do when he is in shape. In the superclasico of the Apertura, Seba held the 0-2 on his own ... with 10.

We are not going to discover magic today, as Roman has played for Boca long enuff ... but to re-discover defensive solidity is indeed magical. Caceres and Paletta have the potential to emulate the imposing central defense pairings of the Bianchi days.

The rest of the team played a solid game. Maidana and Monzon were huge, they locked their sides and left River without any space to "dream". Neri lifted his game after not finding ground in the first 15. And Pablito recovered confidence after pre-season fitness. Palacio was unstoppable and Martin's effort was contagious.

Total ownage. Including of el Burrito's jaw. :D

I agree with all that. It was a solid effort. What a sweet win! It may be preseason but the gayinas were motivated and came to play hard, and still we kicked their ass. Total ownage! It started out as a very intense game and it ended up being a 'baile'. :D

he do you remember what happened the last time river won the Copa del Verano and the Copa Revancha?? I think it has to do with a certain Argentinian club winning the Libertadores perhaps?? ;)

I think River peaks at the summer tournaments.

Regarding this concept, I think that was the case of last year, when DAP prioritized fast results after the failures of his first year back at River. He had prepared a "pre-season" right after the WC'06, preparing for the game in Asuncion against Libertad and the rest of the semester. Due to this effort, River was slow and "stiff" in that game and said good-bye, yet again, to that Libertadores. So last summer, DAP and his helpers prepared the team just to gain speed and explosion. Trying to gain advantage of the "stiffness" of the rest of the big 4. He needed to give the gallinas a reason for hope by winning the Copa Melba/s.

But in these summer games, I find River far from having peaked. As a matter of fact, winning the tournaments is a mere anecdote. They used their 1st team in 3 games. Beating a diminuished San Lorenzo (Tula, Rivero - the KEY of CASLA's midfield, Menzeguez, and the replacements of La Gata and el Malevo ... D'Alessandro and Bergesio).
Despite the rivalry with Ramon, that San Lorenzo is far from being ready. Some could argue that Boca couldn't beat that San Lorenzo either. But Boca was playing their first game with the 1st team, early on in the pre-season. Players were stiff, lacking distance.

And in the 2 superclasicos, River was far from being a balanced team. In the first game in MdP, they came out "wired" ... Cholo style, and that was 10-15 minutes until Roman found his place and started to control the tempo of the game. We can argue it was River's 1st team 1st game of the pre-season, but it came 3 weeks after they started their pre-season ... time for the more relaxed pre-season training. The time as when DAP concentrated in speed. Boca didn't win by goleada just because Carrizo is still in Argentina ... and the tanos wondering who is more street smart these days.

And in this second game in Mendoza, Boca was rolling over River. With 1/2 the starting team. Not for 10 minutes. For almost 1/2 an hour. What is worst, with the 3rd choice player for right back ... and having to take care of River's best (and only different kind of) player, el Chileno.

We have to be careful here. It was as much merit of Boca as it was the absurd scheme that el Cholo used. Datolo was free to push forward all he wanted. Palacio also playing on the left. No one in River could stop this because Ahumada was worried of Gracian. Unfortunately for Boca, Datolo is a player that can start plays, when he has space -that is why he should only play as a sub- but has no idea how to finish them ... neither in the last pass nor shooting on goal.

Yes, el Cholo was betting on having Boca worry when they had the ball. Specially if Roman wasn't playing. There was no one that could choose right the last pass at Boca. But River found its only unbalancing player in el Chileno. Because Tata is not a right back, at least not a right back to play against a defined winger. Maybe against Gimnasia Jujuy or San Martin, but not against a skillful player.

And yes, River found the equalizer when they didn't deserve it. And scored the 2nd after Boca had 2 clear pks not given and Paletta almost scores what should had been the 2nd following the pk on Palermo.

For 5 minutes River felt confortable after the 2nd. And Boca missed their leader to transmit calmness, to hold on to the ball ... and to re-gain the match control that had been all Boca's until then.

We all know that River was gifted the 3rd, and left Boca with 10. This is where you have to question, when did River peak? When they played for 10+ minutes with an extra man, with a 3-1 that pushed Boca to take risks? We all saw that after the 2-3, River ended with 8 men and close to being tied the game, if not losing it, had Pezzotta been strict with this watch and the wasted minutes after the reds and preparing for the free-kicks.

To summarize, River will play this aggressive football that will look to damage but that is highly vulnerable. They will rely on the Chilean, if he is in a good nite, as against San Lorenzo or the few minutes when he uncovered Tata's limitations. But what when he faces a Maidana or Ibarra ... or Tula?

Ischia threw a 4-3 toal scoreline. It is welcomed. If this was a Libertadores tie, Boca would had gone thru once again.

River is a continuation of el Cholo's Estudiantes. No real balance ... even less by not having a Veron. A team that will defend with 2 and attack with 8 when losing. Good luck to them  ... football is 120+ years old, yet no team attacks with 4 forwards anymore. Why not a 5th?, so their faithful remember their Maquina days? Why didn't they do the same in MdP? They looked bullish, ala San Fermin, yet they soon realized that Roman is the closest to Manolete. Oleeeeeeeeeeeee!

River is iffy this year. On one hand they have the potential to be the best team in the league with the non-argentine triple threat, along with throwing Bonnanote in there.

Then, on the other hand, the formation of River is experimental. One has to question if Simeone can work a system, before it's too late. The defense of River is scary bad and Ortega leading this team, I don't see it. Ortega has been an icon at River, but he's been on/off three years with the team, and he's done nothing.

I would rather see the Argentine (bonna note), the Uruguayan, Colombian, and Chilean youth create a team and go foward. But hey, I always can dream right, we seem to sell all our positive youth, always creating a scratch team every new tournament.

And.... I just noticed this is in the Boca Forum. whatever.
