I heard it was 18,500 and that really disappointed me. If it is 20K that's an improvement. The St. Louis stadium was proposed at 18,500 too. Not very optimistic for Soccer City USA and what seem like what would be a very successful Philadelphia franchise. New York is building a 25K seater. Toronto is expanding to 25K-30K in the next couple years. Seems a little too conservative to only go 18-5. I would think around 23K would be optimal.
Is that all the proposed parking for the stadium? It seems kind of light for a 20,000 (or even 18,500) seat stadium. Not that I'm sure what exactly the ideal parking spots to seats ratio is, but that's under 10%. Perhaps that is just what will be present in parking decks and that additional spots via surface lots will be available, but I'm just curious. I don't think a huge amount of the attendees for games will end up taking the Septa regional rail.
not at all. I lived in DC and went to many DCU games and they had about 15-20 thousand per game... thats not including the David game (46,686 sold out). Its going make the stadium look full on tv and live. And with the roof in, it will make sound REALLY loud.
i think SOMEONE is on his way to a position in the team's FO. don't forget us little people when you get there.
The smaller seaters create a supply and demand that can not be seen in the larger venues- Ask RBNY, NER and KCW what it is like trying to get fans into thinking they need to come out when they have 50K empty seats.
You know, I thought the same thing when I first read this. Honestly, that's got to be parking not specifically for the stadium, but instead for the riverwalk itself. The stadium has got to have it's own surface lots, or this is the poorest parking planning I've ever heard of.
You SoB's clean up really well. The suited ones looked great on TV and the mile wide grins on your faces seemed to say that all the puppies are safe for now. Great work!! Rivertown won't know what hit them when we arrive for the first game. Go PHILLY MLS.
go philly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! very good news for us. this is a very positive for PA. i will finally be able to attend MLS games. cheers.
Re: 1.31.08 - Press Conference Back to the stadium announcement for a moment. Can someone help out a spatially challenged guy? How big is 22,000 square feet of retail? Is the Iron Hill on the Wilmington waterfront that size? Bigger, smaller? Would this be the equivalent of a few Chammps size places (though hopefully not Chammps!). Any mention of a pub actually in the stadium aside the retail mentioned in the press release?
100' x 220' - can you pixsture that? Slightly < half the size (180' x 300' = 54K sq ft) of an American football field - let's say from the goal line to about the 41-yard line and sideline (you know, like a "touchline") to sideline.
Assuming this is going to be another European class stadium just like the new Red Bulls stadium; i assume it is going to be a nice grass field; it worries me when they Put MULTI-USE stadium. Thinking that the "Gridiron" is also going to play there. Thats not good they would most likely destroy the field just like they did in Wembley. I hope that "Multi- use" was just a sales quote; nothing more
Great !!!! we have a stadium with plenty of foods & shops..... but how do I get there if I live in Center City with no car????? read: http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=47990&sid=6afb176e31de4ba53eb1ca28037bbb01
