It's fine, posting in the Name thread is the only sure fire way to make sure you're shat on by your fellow SoBs. We've all gone through it. I admire you for being brave enough to pitch it.

I still like the Philadelphia Colonials as a name. You could also lay claim to the name Philadelphia Lightning (homage to the event when Franklin's kite lit up the sky)...

And the Delaware Valley moniker has potential.

Just to warn you guys, as a Burn/FCD fan, when Dallas rebranded and went with FC Dallas, we choked on it, then got used to it, and now we tend to look back and go "This was the most original name we could come up with?". Please don't make the same mistake.

Yes, the names being considered are "traditional". They are also boring as hell, and for a team that has such an imaginative supporter's group, I think you should allow yourselves to come up with something original.

Anyway, I am thrilled that it looks like you're getting your team! Congratulations!

Why can't we just be "Philadelphia FC/SC"?

I know I know, but when I want the team to be named a "traditional" name, it's because I want a nickname to grow organically over time. Forcing a nickname down our throats is counterproductive IMO.

You know davey theyre right. Why dont we just stick with The free(phree)!?;)

Poppycock! The teams in england are named for the area, with an addition of fc, cf, sc, united, real, etc. Is that not the style of football we are trying to bring to the US?

my g/f (an asshole eagles fan) suggested naming the team "winners" so that way we could say there is at least one team of winners in philly. :)

No it's not. Soccer is played other places than England, and other places use all sorts of combinations of nicknames, initials, etc, not to mention that this is an American/(and Canadian!) league, not English. Mimicking what the English do simply because it's what the English do is silly.

I wasnt saying to mimick what england does! I was agreeing with davey. Why force a dumb nickname when something could grow. Do you wanna support the philadelphia free? cause I dont. Philadelphia SC and Philadelphia Athletic are different enough for the league so we dont sound redundant, but simple enough to allow something to grow from it.

I would not support the Philadelphia Free. But I would support the Philadephia Phree. Or the Phalanx. Or the Free FC. :p

    I certainly hope not.

If we have to go with such a Europoseur name, I'd hope we at least go with AC Philadelphia given that it would be a bit unique within MLS.

Philadelphia FC/SC isnt really as EUROPOSEUR as you are implying sideshow bob....it is simply giving a "BLAH" name to our wonderful team

AC Philadelphia is all about placement really...put the AC after philly and its original...put it in front and we are stunods that cant think outside of the box (the italian box)...all in all...the best name (which we all did pick 1st) Philadelphia Athletic FC/SC which is a combo of those two
